Violet’s First V-Log: The Adelaide Beauty Conference

Well if you followed me on Twitter you would probably have guessed where I was the weekend before last: the Adelaide Beauty Conference! I’ve done my first V-Log at the end of the post too so enjoy!

I was flown up to be the special guest speaker and also to provide a nail art demonstration. James was the photographer for the day too so credit to him for all of these pictures.

The event it’s self was a huge amount of fun, it was held at Liquid Hair Salon and there were demonstrations of Dermalogica and Cloud 9 as well as make up from Miss Kitty and my nail display.

My models for the day were Sherry and Neena who were both so lovely and accommodating for me. I did a rose design on Neena and leopard print on Sherry.

ABC 2011_www.JimmyAmerica.com_096

I’m always nervous when doing nails for other people but I was even more so at having to talk and answer questions at the same time. Talking isn’t really my strong point but once I got to know the girls and we all got chatting a bit I felt so much better! It was like hanging  out with my friends 😀 I know Saku video’d the whole process so if she uploads it I’ll post a link for the rest of you.

ABC 2011_www.JimmyAmerica.com_095

There was an awesomely delicious spread from Monnie at Cupcake Treats. We hadn’t eaten much all day so I spent a lot of time monopolizing the food table 😛

ABC 2011_www.JimmyAmerica.com_003

We only spent the day in Adelaide so James and I got up super early to fly in the morning and then out right afterwards. I had been hoping to go to dinner with the rest of the girls but there was an early curfew on the airport so even on the last flight we missed out ;_;

ABC 2011_www.JimmyAmerica.com_004

This is totally my favorite photo of the day, I wish I had gotten to see Kitty’s display to understand what was going on here XD

ABC 2011_www.JimmyAmerica.com_081

The best part of the day for me was getting to meet girls that I’ve been talking to online for months (or in some cases years!) in person finally!

ABC 2011_www.JimmyAmerica.com_107

Of course getting to play with nails was fun too! We covered all of the basics in my awesomely technical manner: splotches, squiggles, stripes and decals 😉

ABC 2011_www.JimmyAmerica.com_078

Being a blogger meet there was an influx of awesome cameras 😉

ABC 2011_www.JimmyAmerica.com_038

Liquid Hair was decked out in some serious bling, very appropriate!

ABC 2011_www.JimmyAmerica.com_011ABC 2011_www.JimmyAmerica.com_018

The Dermalogica display was really informative and they presented us with some great information on the FITE women’s charity too.

ABC 2011_www.JimmyAmerica.com_020

With the amount of running around we had done that day (plus the getting up super early) I almost volunteered myself for the facial haha!

ABC 2011_www.JimmyAmerica.com_032

I found Emma’s Cloud9 demonstration really interesting too and it made me think about upgrading my hair appliances a step and maybe giving my wand another try! I’m pretty good with the straightener but no matter how I try I fail miserable at using those styling wands which is why I still haven’t reviewed/done tutorials with the one I have >_<

ABC 2011_www.JimmyAmerica.com_028

I got to see the O heated roller system in action too which cleared up a lot of questions I had about it! Emma also showed us an interesting powder which is supposed to take the place of teasing/back combing. That was something I was very interested in!

ABC 2011_www.JimmyAmerica.com_061

Speaking of hair products, if anyone has a good heavy duty hair spray recommendation please let me know, they’ve discontinued my black label Cedel ;_;

ABC 2011_www.JimmyAmerica.com_024

Other than my display I spent most of the time getting to know the girls and answering questions about blogging. Next time I definitely want to stay for a couple of days so we can hang out more and see the sights!

ABC 2011_www.JimmyAmerica.com_036

Biggest thank you of the day goes to Celeste for organising my trip and being a wonderful host! Thank you for ferrying us around, being so organised and for letting me borrow your nail polishes!

ABC 2011_www.JimmyAmerica.com_015

Thank you as well to the Adelaide girls for being so nice to me! It sounds obvious but I was blown away with how nice people were, we had so many offers of lifts and at one point my eyes were watering from hay fever and no thought at all Jac was straight to her bag looking for antihistamines for me! *so appreciative*

Kitty’s make up presentation using all kinds of cool colours:

Everyone seemed to have such a wonderful time. Driving around there has gotten me thinking about moving again XD Such cheap rent too!!

ABC 2011_www.JimmyAmerica.com_057

Of course it was another good excuse to hand out business cards, I’m completely obsessed with them right now. Probably good too because my printing company gave me double the amount I ordered so I’ve got quite a few to hand out!

ABC 2011_www.JimmyAmerica.com_074

The event ended  with thank you’s, cheers and gift bags. Celeste surprised me with some really lovely gifts as well, I’m really lucky to have wonderful friends like her! I ended having to leave most of it with her because of my lack of baggage but I can’t wait to try out what I did bring. Especially the Ardel 6 week false lashes, that sounds like such a cool idea so I’m going to try them tonight!

ABC 2011_www.JimmyAmerica.com_072

Cheers to everyone and thank you all so much for having me as your blogging exchange student!

ABC 2011_www.JimmyAmerica.com_013

Now something I’ve been looking forward to (and dreading slightly) my first vlog! I debated for a while how to pronounce vlog (as in VEE-log or like blog with a v) and settled on VEE log because rather than being short for “video blog” I’m going to make them short Violet’s Log mwahahaha! Now I can make all kinds of nerdy Captain’s Log jokes too ;P

I’m still getting the hang of recording and remembering to look at the camera but it was fun to put together so I might start doing them more often if you all enjoy it ^_^

Thank you so much to all of the Adelaide girls for giving me such an awesome intro!!!
Ok that’s it from me for now, I hope you all enjoyed coming with me to Adelaide and had as fun of a time as I did!!

Styling Celeste- Temporary Hair Colour Illamasqua Pigment on Dark Hair

This is a series of videos in collaboration with Celeste from Becoming Beautiful where we try different styles on her. This particular one we were testing whether Illamasqua pigments would work as well on Dark hair as they do in blonde.

You can see it on my blonde hair in this post: http://bit.ly/qasTdh

Welcome to another episode of Styling Celeste where I try out random hairstyles on my unwitting victim. lovely friend Celeste.
Today’s we’re playing with Illamasqua Cream Pigment in her hair.
So a while ago I wrote a post on how you could use the Illamasqua Cream Pigment in your hair as temporary colour.
I got a bunch of comments asking whether it would work with dark hair.
Let’s find out.
All you need to do is section your hair and paint it on.
You can use a brush, fingers or whatever.
I’m using Illamasqua Cream Pigment in Dab which is a nice pastel purple.
Don’t forget to do the back side of the hair too.
Let it dry for around 10 minutes so it doesn’t come off on your fingers.
Give it a quick spray with dry shampoo to seal it in then style as normal.
We used the straightener a bit too soon because I was impatient and some of the pigment came off.
Wait longer!
Knowing this works on dark hair means there are so many more fun options to try.
Let me know how you guys go!
I hope this was a useful video, please check out the blog post linked in the description for more information and tutorials.
Thanks so much for watching.

Nail decals are a fantastic way to jazz up plain nails while expending minimum effort.
I love them because they mean you can have beautiful nails no matter what your skill set.
Start with clean bare nails and paint a base colour.
Glitters look awesome under decals and you’ll find light colours provide the best results.
Wait until it’s completely dry.
I am using decals from inspirednails.com they are the very thin kind.
Pick the size of the decal which will cover your entire nail.
Cut out the decal.
Trim the edges to fit your nail and the bottom to fit the cuticle.
Lay it over the nail to make sure it fits.
Submerge the decal in water for around 10 seconds until it’s soaked.
Put it on your finger, decal side down and slide the wet paper off.
Press it down on your nail and smooth it over.
Don’t worry about the over hang for now, just smooth it down.
Coat the whole nail with clear polish.
Once it’s dry, use a nail file to file downwards on the edge to remove the over hang.
If you need to, you can remove extra with tweezers.
Looking good!
Add another coat of clear polish and you’re finished.
Very pretty and very easy to do.
The possibilities are endless.
You can buy these and other decals from inspirednails.com

False nails are a great alternative for those who want long nails without the effort.
This is how I apply mine.
Start with clean dry nails.
Lightly buff the shine off them.
Don’t buff too hard.
Choose the correct size nail and snap it from the frame.
The correct size will cover the entire natural nail.
Carefully file any rough edges from the tips.
Grab your nail glue, I like the kind with a brush for easy application.
Apply glue over the entire nail surface.
Don’t get it on your skin.
Line the nail at your cuticle and ease it down onto the rest of your hair.
Apply pressure firmly for 10-20 seconds.
Tadaa!
Repeat on the rest of your nails for the finished look.
I love these nails because they were custom designed with my monogram.

Basic Hime Hair Pouf Tutorial Using a Rat / 姫ギャル髪型チュートリアル

This is a simple hair tutorial showing the way that I do this big poufy hair style. This style can be used in a Japanese hime gyaru fashion look or adapted to many other styles. This is just one out of many ways to achieve looks like this and isn’t as damaging as many others as it uses a rat hair piece rather than teasing the whole lot.

Morning!
Today I’ll show you how my hair in a basic hime pouf.
This is the style I do most often.
Brush our your hair.
Mine was a bit dirty so I added a little scented talcum powder.
My version of this style is by no means the best of only way to achieve this style but it’s what works the best for me.
Take a small section of hair starting at the top of your ears and moving up to the top of your head.
Clip it out of the way and too the side.
For this version you will need a rat” basically that is something squishy in the same you want your hair to be.
Mine is a bandana wrapped in a hair extension.
Pin it to the top of your head behind the section of hair you clipped out of the way.
I am using a darker colour so you can see what I’m doing.
Pin it at the front, back and both sides so it’s really securely in place.
Now unclip the front section and brush it out.
Divide it into 3 sections: left, middle, right.
Let the left and right sections go so you are just holding the middle.
Using a teasing comb brush the section straight forward and tease the back of it so it will hold the shape better.
Lay it back over the rat and pin at the base.
Now spray it all over with hair spray and smooth down.
use your fingers to fan it out so it covers as much of the rat as possible.
Take a section from the right and brush it upwards.
Tease the back with the comb and pull it up the side and over to the opposite side.
Pin it at the base of the rat and also pin it at the top of the rat so the curve stays in place.
Repeat it on the other side too.
Pull the section up, brush through, tease, pin top and base, spray and smooth.
If you are unhappy with the shape just squish it until you like it and spray again.
To blend the bump to the bottom hair a bit more just grab a section from the side, tease and pin at the back.
Of course, spray it in place too.
Repeat on the other side and you’re almost finished.
That’s the basic bump almost done.
From the back you can see there are a few gaps where the rat can still be seen.
just fan out the hair with your fingers to cover them and spray.
If you use a rat the same colour as your hair it doesn’t matter as much.
Time to curl the rest of it.
I use a mini straightener for the curls.
Don’t forget the bits pinned at the back too.
Add some accessories front and back and you’re finished!
I like to use long ribbons on the back so it looks more impressive.
If you feel your hair isn’t big enough you can tease thr roots for some extra volume.
I live by the motto that there’s no such thing as too much hairspray.
So now you’re all made up you just need somewhere fun to go and show it all off.
I hope this was a useful video, please check out the blog post linked in the description for more information and tutorials.
Thanks so much for watching.
Bye!
