A New Method For How To Make Glitter Sneakers

Today’s project is a new version of my old post about glitter sneakers. Even though I haven’t done a Sneaker Sunday post in aaages I still love them and I still love customising my own!

This is my latest pair of glitter sneakers. You can see the old technique of painting the glitter sneakers in this post.

DIY-Glitter-Sneakers77

You need:

  • Glitter
  • Fabric glue (not pva like the last tutorial)
  • Paper to put down so you don’t make a huge mess
  • Sneakers
So rather than buying new sneakers I decided to redo my old deco sneakers. I did these 3-4 years ago and while they are not in terrible condition they are a little worse for wear.

DIY-Glitter-Sneakers07

There’s a post on how to maintain sneakers and shoes which are decorated in case you’re interested too.

DIY-Glitter-Sneakers15

Anyway the first step was removing all of the deco pieces and bows and giving the shoes a thorough wipe down.

DIY-Glitter-Sneakers16

The key to this version is to use wash and wear fabric glue. The brand doesn’t matter but it need to be washable. In the old version I used pva glue and mixed the glue and glitter together. That way does make a smaller mess but it takes longer and because the glitter is fairly encased it’s not quite as shiny.

DIY-Glitter-Sneakers21

Put sheets of paper down so you can easily clean up the mess later. So section by section coat each side of the shoe in a generous amount of glue. Then while the glue is still wet slowly tip glitter on. Be generous and don’t worry if the glitter piles up.

DIY-Glitter-Sneakers22

After the glue is dry to the touch shake off the extra glitter. Leave the shoes to dry over night and then brush off any remaining loose glitter OUTSIDE. You want to be very thorough with this brushing and make sure every possible piece of loose glitter is gone or else you’ll leave a trail of glitter everywhere you walk. I took mine into the shower and banged them together until nothing else came off.

And that’s it! Because this is fabric glue it holds on to the glitter so well that no top coat is needed at all. Super shiny = winner!

Now you just need some shiny clothes to go with them!

How To Make A Craft Box From A Yoga Mat – Home Sweet Home

This is a really quick way to knock together some craft storage from an old yoga mat.

DIY-Craft-Storage-94

  • Old Yoga mat or foam
  • Needle and yarn or stapler
  • Scissors
I wanted to use the basket I keep my lace in for the tv area to hold cables. Good idea but what would I replace it with? I didn’t have any other things to use so I decided to make one.

DIY-Craft-Storage-82

First cut a rectangle of foam which is as wide as the bottom of the box plus both sides. You can see I had a helper 😉DIY-Craft-Storage-83

Put the basket in the middle of the foam and trace lightly around it 2cm from the base with the scissors so it scores the foam.

DIY-Craft-Storage-85

In each corner cut out a square which meets the corner of the score you made.

DIY-Craft-Storage-87

Snip the inner corner 2cm.

DIY-Craft-Storage-88

Repeat on each side and you’ll have something like this:

DIY-Craft-Storage-89

When you fold the edges together they should match up like this:

DIY-Craft-Storage-90

Stitch each side together. I used yarn and a basic whip stitch. You could staple it if you’re in a hurry but this does look a bit nicer.

DIY-Craft-Storage-92

Done, easy!

DIY-Craft-Storage-93

And all full of stuff. Apparently this was really hard work so my helper decided to have a nap ^_^

DIY-Craft-Storage-94

With one yoga matt you could easily make a bunch of these and have a matching storage system.

4 Fun Fringe Hairstyle Tutorials

I was playing around with my fringe while filming a tutorial on my basic style and I did a couple of other styles too so I thought I would include them. This video has some tips on how I keep my fringe looking good in Melbourne’s weather. .

4 Fun Fringe Hairstyle Instructions.

Hello!
Today’s video is all about different ways to style your fringe.
At the moment, I have a straight block fringe with layers framing my face to just below my chin.
For fringe styling I used my brush, teasing comb, hair spray and a straightener.
I also spray with heat protector before I style to prevent as much damage as possible
The first style I’m trying is a puffy curled almost retro roll.
So I split the hair into 3 sections.
Grab the middle section and hold it straight outwards.
Run the straightener down it and at the end curl it sharply underneath.
It make take a few goes to make it even.
Let it cool in the shape and then run a comb through it.
You can see how severe the curl is at the end.
Fan the middle section out until it reached both the other sides.
Angle the straightener at 45 degrees and then curl the side sections in the same way.
Make sure that you curl them inwards towards your face, they should match up with the angle of the middle part.
And that’s one look done!
The more severely you curl the middle under, the more it will stick out and look like it’s a 1950’s school girl style.
The next look is my every day look.
It uses the same technique on the middle section to begin with and then I straighten the sides instead of curling them.
To keep it in place all day in Melbourne’s wind I use hairspray.
Then I lightly tease the underside of the middle, I do the teasing in a couple of sections to make sure I get it all and there’s no weird gaps.
It looks pretty silly at this point.
Then I smooth the top back down with the comb and hairspray it again.
When I’m combing, I’m just lightly pulling it down, not going through the whole way so the teasing isn’t ruined.
Not even Melbourne’s wind can move this now!
Taadaa!
If the wind does destroy my fringe, I just do a side part like this.
The curl under the bottom makes a really cute side swept look.
And it’s much more wind friendly.
Lastly, for something completely different, here are some Farrah flicks!
Do a side part and then angle the straightener at 45 degrees.
This time curl away from your face.
It’s much easier to do the side with the most hair in small sections like this.
And you want a gentle flick away from the face.
The more you rotate the straightener, the bigger the flicks will be.
It looks a bit weird with the ponytail but imagine it with a full head of curls and flicks, it would be epic 1970’s style!
So there you have it, a couple of different ways to style your fringe!
I hope this was a useful video, please check out the blog post linked in the description for more information and tutorials!
Thanks so much for watching!

How Bleach An Ombre Gradient Effect Into A Shirt

I’ve been experimenting with bleaching clothing recently. I’d never really considered it until James suggested it for changing the colour of some fabric scraps I couldn’t think of a use for. I ended up playing around and getting some very cool results including this gradient shirt!

Ombre-Bleach-Tutorial-VioletLeBeaux-1231

Around $1.20 for a huge bottle means it’s a very cheap way to give clothes and other fabric items a make over.

Ombre-Bleach-Tutorial-VioletLeBeaux-0778

I experimented on a lot of different items with varied results so let’s see the before/afters before I show you the very cool gradient bleach.

First an old cardigan in a colour which didn’t go with my wardrobe.

Ombre-Bleach-Tutorial-VioletLeBeaux-0774

After soaking in the bleach and water solution for around 20 minutes the only part which changed colour was the cotton lace. Everything else was apparently synthetic so it didn’t take the bleach. Bleach works best with natural fibers.

After:

Ombre-Bleach-Tutorial-VioletLeBeaux-1226

Not the cute cream/white cardigan I was hoping for but still cuter than it started.

This shirt was accidentally dyed blue in the wash with some jeans. I really loved it but the blue looked really odd with the pinks of the flowers.

After:

Ombre-Bleach-Tutorial-VioletLeBeaux-1228

The blue came out completely and I left it in the bleach long enough that the flowers became lighter and more pastel. Definitely like this one!

I threw in one of James’ old shirts to see if it was salvageable.

Ombre-Bleach-Tutorial-VioletLeBeaux-0805

It became a bit brighter but there was not a super noticable change.

Ombre-Bleach-Tutorial-VioletLeBeaux-1227

I threw in another few dresses at the end which were also blue from those jeans and they turned out like new.

Now let’s get a bit more fancy!

This shirt was in my “donate” pile and I decided to experiment on it.

Ombre-Bleach-Tutorial-VioletLeBeaux-0807

I set up a hanging rack so I could suspend the shirt over the bucket of bleach.

Ombre-Bleach-Tutorial-VioletLeBeaux-0809

Then I lowered it so the bottom was sitting in the bleach solution.

Ombre-Bleach-Tutorial-VioletLeBeaux-0811

After a while the solution started creeping up the shirt.

Ombre-Bleach-Tutorial-VioletLeBeaux-0814

To speed the process up I poured boiling water over the shirt to draw the bleach up further.

Ombre-Bleach-Tutorial-VioletLeBeaux-0812

Then it was just a matter of waiting until it was the colour I wanted.

Ombre-Bleach-Tutorial-VioletLeBeaux-0813

Getting there…

Ombre-Bleach-Tutorial-VioletLeBeaux-0815

You can see the gradual change of colour more clearly here:

Ombre-Bleach-Tutorial-VioletLeBeaux-0816

Once that was all finished I threw everything in the wash to remove any extra bleach and get rid of the terrible smell. If you decide to do something like this make sure to wear gloves and keep the area ventilated. Keep in mind that bleach isn’t great for delicate fabrics too as it is corrosive.

Ombre-Bleach-Tutorial-VioletLeBeaux-0817

And after washing and drying this was the finished shirt!

Ombre-Bleach-Tutorial-VioletLeBeaux-1231

This was really just a test to see what I could do with the bleach. Now that I know how it works and the options I have I want to experiment more. I think this would be a very cool way to give old clothes a make over. I’ve been thinking of using it to paint on designs like leopard print on things too!

Summer Daisy Nails, Lottie and Ocean OOTD

Here’s an OOTD which was filmed back when it was cold, the ocean makes it look so nice and summery but it was SOOOOO cold! I really like this outfit though so it was worth the cold haha!

In something a little more actual-summerish here’s a very simple daisy manicure. I’ve been filming things I’ve been doing with my nails while growing them out, while they’re not complete step by step tutorials I figured seeing it done couldn’t hurt!

And Lottie, I’m glad I’m actually doing these regularly now. She looks so different since these were shot though, it’s crazy how fast she’s grown!

Hope you all had a good weekend! ^_^

Peach Eyes – Morning Make Up

A new segment I’m trying out where in I show my morning make up routine for various days and chat about what I’m doing that day. Not really a tutorial, more of a random girly chat while we get ready together in the bathroom 😉

Today’s style features some peach shadow that I wanted to try out. I love trying different styles and this one turned out quite prettily. Normally I steer away from orange tones but this is starting to change my mind! .

Peach make up instructions!

Welcome to another edition of Morning Make Up where I do my make up and we chat!
Today’s look is a colour I don’t usually wear: coral!
Start with foundation as usual.
I’m on a kick trying new things at the moment!
I didn’t really know where I was going with this one so I just started with some mascara.
Today’s new thing is coral coloured eyeshadow.
I was trying out this new pearly shimmy 88 Palette.
I did a light cream wash over the lip and a little under the brow as a highlighter.
I love these huge palettes so much.
There is just so much variety in the looks you can make with them.
They are fantastic to keep at home.
I applied the bright pop of coral on the outer corner.
I could honestly ditch the rest of my eyeshadows in favor of one big one like this.
I added a little darker coral to the outer half of the lash line.
I’m trying out different crafts at the moment too which has been fun.
Then I blended it all together.
I tried doing come interesting bleaching patterns on some old clothes which turned out awesomely!
I was quite surprised because I thought they were going to suck!
I lined thinly with black liner.
And after I’ve been crocheting this gigantic shag rug for out lounge because we can’t afford a real one!
I added a long wing as an after thought.
I wasn’t sure the rug would turn out well but I’m almost half way and I love it!
While I was deciding what to do next I added some pink lipstick.
Do you guys try new things often?
Or do you stick with the same things you know?
Then I added some 3/4 lashes.
I think trying new things is really the best part about life.
It didn’t look quite finished so I brought some of the coral down on to the lower lash line.
Next on my to try list are some new nail art designs.
And a little bit of the light colour on the inner corner.
Now that I’m growing out my natural nails, I should be able to do them more often!
And some blush…
A little lipgloss and that’s done!
Let me know if you have any ideas what I should try next.
See, trying new things is good, I actually ended up really liking this look.
I hope this was a useful video, check out the blog post linked in the description for more information and tutorials.
Thanks so much for watching.
Bye!
