Wrapping Paper Window Wall Tutorial- Home Sweet Home!

The house make over Home Sweet Home style continues with another really easy yet extremely effective project… wall papering doors with wrapping paper! And it’s a built in photo back drop 😀

VioletLeBeauxP1070188_18329

Our bedroom has no windows, it only has a big sliding door and matching side glasses. It is very pretty but it does kind of suck for lighting. They look really plain and boring so I always want to jazz them up into some kind of feature.I’ve done this before but last time I didn’t think it through fully so after a few months it turned into this…

VioletLeBeaux-Wallpaper-DIY-Tutorial-47_18087

This time I measured and thought about the colours I was buying.

VioletLeBeaux-Wallpaper-DIY-Tutorial-49_18089

You need:

  • Wrapping paper
  • Thin double sided tape
  • Measuring tape
  • Scissors
So first step, measure the place you want to cover. Seriously. Do it really well. Measure twice, cut once and all those sayings are true. It’s much easier to do this right now then to screw around with it when you’re standing on a stool on one leg leaning across to try to put the last bit of tape in.

VioletLeBeaux-Wallpaper-DIY-Tutorial-50_18090

Pull off all of the old paper.

VioletLeBeaux-Wallpaper-DIY-Tutorial-51_18091

Clean the windows very thoroughly.

VioletLeBeaux-Wallpaper-DIY-Tutorial-52_18092

Lay the paper out flat. I’m using $2 a roll wrapping paper from the junk store, you can use real wall paper but it’s very expensive and hard to find in Aus.

VioletLeBeaux-Wallpaper-DIY-Tutorial-54_18094

I layered the old paper on there to cut around but you can just measure and rule your shape on.

VioletLeBeaux-Wallpaper-DIY-Tutorial-55_18095

So cut it all out.

VioletLeBeaux-Wallpaper-DIY-Tutorial-56_18096VioletLeBeaux-Wallpaper-DIY-Tutorial-57_18097

If you don’t have a ruler long enough you can carefully fold it into shape and cut along the line very carefully.

VioletLeBeaux-Wallpaper-DIY-Tutorial-58_18098

Repeat  until all of your rectangles are cut out.

VioletLeBeaux-Wallpaper-DIY-Tutorial-59_18099

Now bring them back in and grab your double sided tape. I don’t recommend using poster dots unless you have a heap of them because these tend to be quite heavy. Much cheaper to use a roll of double sided tape.

VioletLeBeaux-Wallpaper-DIY-Tutorial-61_18101

So to stick it on you need to have everything ready at once, stick a long line of tape all the way along the top.

VioletLeBeaux-Wallpaper-DIY-Tutorial-67_18107

Add several along the middle, bottom and sides too.

VioletLeBeaux-Wallpaper-DIY-Tutorial-71_18111

Peel the top tape and carefully stick the paper to it starting at once side and going across. Next peel the middle pieces of tape and smooth it down. Do the bottom last. Press all over it firmly. Cut any random pieces which stick out along the sides with a scalpel. My windows were poorly constructed so they weren’t exactly square making it a pain in the butt.

VioletLeBeaux-Wallpaper-DIY-Tutorial-68_18108

Repeat over and over again until you’re all done and that’s it! Notice the floor full of scraps from the tape XD

VioletLeBeaux-Wallpaper-DIY-Tutorial-73_18113VioletLeBeaux-Wallpaper-DIY-Tutorial-78_18118

I was so happy with how it turned out that I took a photo in my pajamas XD

VioletLeBeauxIMG_4885_18083

And in photos it just looks fantastic! So happy with them and they really brighten up the room!

VioletLeBeauxP1070180_18321

Nice and easy so anyone could do it and it cost very little! One step closer to my Home Sweet Home!

Paperclip and Wire Heart Ornament Quick Craft Tutorial

This is a mini project, literally. ^_^

VioletLeBeaux-paperclip-heart-tutorial-57_1276 copyVioletLeBeaux-paperclip-heart-tutorial-37_1274 copy

Take 1 paper clipVioletLeBeaux-paperclip-heart-tutorial-38_1274 copy

Bend it in the middle and push the sides up to the top.

VioletLeBeaux-paperclip-heart-tutorial-39_1274 copy

You made a heart paper clip, hurray!

VioletLeBeaux-paperclip-heart-tutorial-41_1274 copy

Squish the extra parts into the middle.

VioletLeBeaux-paperclip-heart-tutorial-42_1274 copy

Taadaa…

VioletLeBeaux-paperclip-heart-tutorial-43_1274 copy

Then take some red wire.

VioletLeBeaux-paperclip-heart-tutorial-44_1275 copy

Make a loop at the top.

VioletLeBeaux-paperclip-heart-tutorial-46_1275 copy

Wind it around and around and around and around and around.

VioletLeBeaux-paperclip-heart-tutorial-48_1275 copy

When you get to this area you will need to start winding it around each of the top bumps.

VioletLeBeaux-paperclip-heart-tutorial-50_1275 copy

Keep going until you either run out of wire or it looks finished.

VioletLeBeaux-paperclip-heart-tutorial-52_1275 copy

Messy and adorable. I think if you made like 10 of them you could decorate a tiny adorable Christmas tree  XD

VioletLeBeaux-paperclip-heart-tutorial-59_1276 copy

In theory you could also make whatever shape you wanted if you had some pliers haha!

VioletLeBeaux-paperclip-heart-tutorial-54_1276 copy

Or it could be a wall hanging in a doll’s house XD Or a gift for your friend who really likes The Used hahaha!

Guitar Hero Modifications Controller Adorable Make Over V2

I started these Guitar Hero modifications months ago. I finished James’ one straight away because it was super easy and he’s really not picky XD

Mine took a lot more thinking through. I wanted it to be over the top, what’s the point of rocking out if you can’t do it turned up to 11?

So result?

VioletLeBeaux-kawaii-pink-guitar-hero-modification-6_16819

And how did I do it?First up was the face place the same as James’.violetlebeaux-kawaii-pink-guitar-hero-modification-320_14647I removed it and covered it with some left over fabric from another project.

violetlebeaux-kawaii-pink-guitar-hero-modification-321_14648

violetlebeaux-kawaii-pink-guitar-hero-modification-327_14654

I hot glued all of the edges down and it was much more time consuming because of how stretchy the fabric was.

violetlebeaux-kawaii-pink-guitar-hero-modification-322_14649

And from the other side it looks nice and neat 😀 I added a bow at this point too.

violetlebeaux-kawaii-pink-guitar-hero-modification-324_14651

Back on the controller it looked ok but I thought there was much too much black.

violetlebeaux-kawaii-pink-guitar-hero-modification-329_14656

Easy fix though, in came the acrylic paint.

violetlebeauxp1050472_15903

Several coats of white later it had a decent base.

violetlebeauxp1050475_15906

I then used pink. Unfortunately I picked a glitter paint which left it texturised. Not my favorite look but it kind of worked. This paint was much too see through so ended up going over it with nail polish for a shiny finish too.

violetlebeauxp1050476_15907

Face plate back on after it dried and then I added some more bows and things… just because 😀

VioletLeBeaux-kawaii-pink-guitar-hero-modification-3_16816

To carry it off you really need the attitude though!

violetlebeaux-kawaii-pink-guitar-hero-modification-9_16822

Hurray! So now I’m waaay cuter than James when we play! Unfortunately the girl character choices are limited… so my rock alter ego looks kind of like a hooker >_<

violetlebeaux-kawaii-pink-guitar-hero-modification-7_16820

And I will totally use my looks against him to win mwahahaha! Take that James!!!

Guitar Hero Modifications Controller Make Over V1 Tartan

Guitar Hero! James is obsessed with it, he’s only had the PS3 since Christmas so he’s catching up on all the games he’s missed in the last few years including looking like a tool playing Guitar Hero 😀

But our controllers were second hand and had ugly Metalica stickers from their previous owner. Meh.

James requested a remake and I was happy to oblige!

VioletLeBeaux-tartan-guitar-hero-modification-07_14585

First I removed the face plate and laid it out on the fabric face down.VioletLeBeaux-tartan-guitar-hero-modification-09_14587I cut around it leaving a few cm around the edges.VioletLeBeaux-tartan-guitar-hero-modification-13_14591

Next went all round the edge and snipped it around the edges every few cm. This was so I could glue it flat around the curves.

VioletLeBeaux-tartan-guitar-hero-modification-14_14592

One by one I folded the flaps over and hot glued them in place.

VioletLeBeaux-tartan-guitar-hero-modification-17_14595

This is how it ended up, nice and clean!

VioletLeBeaux-tartan-guitar-hero-modification-21_14599

I used the same technique to cut out the holes in the middle.

VioletLeBeaux-tartan-guitar-hero-modification-23_14601

Done!

VioletLeBeaux-tartan-guitar-hero-modification-24_14602

Lastly I used fabric glue to add little metal findings and bits and pieces to make it a bit more punk-rockish ^_^

VioletLeBeauxP1060504_17410

So did James like it?

Apparently!

VioletLeBeauxP1060510_17416

Tomorrow you’ll get to see what I did with mine 😀

My New White Painted Make Up Table- Home Sweet Home!

Yay for another Home Sweet Home post finally 😀

Honestly I feel like with this project I finally made some kind of progress with the apartment. The little details always make a difference but sometimes you need something really big to show the progress properly. I hate working for a long time and not being able to see results, that’s why I can never stick to one craft at a time I just get bored too easily.

So this vanity is both my most loved and least favorite piece of furniture in the house. I loved it enough to drag it down from Brisbane and I hate it because it doesn’t look good with the style of apartment and it really darkens up the room.

Also after a few days of use it looks like this…

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50184_15686

Well realistically it looks more like this…photo[3]Honestly I’m one of those people who can’t keep things neat unless there is an exact system to do so >_<DSC_6512

How can I keep stuff clean?

  • Wipe off bench top
  • Everything needs a home
DIY Ideas!
  • Paint table white
  • Cover guitar case
  • Make box for camera
  • Better lighting set up
  • Storage for back drop
  • Bin for rubbish.
LET’S DO IT!

So problem number 1 is that it’s dark wood. I love dark wood but it’s just not good for this house where everything is light and white. I previously covered the stool with pink leopard print so it seemed fitting to paint all of the wooden parts white.

I chose to do this with acrylic paint because:

  • I can paint indoors without killing myself with fumes
  • I can easily remove it when we move and I want the dark wood again
  • It’s cheap as hell, you can get huge bottles for $2 at craft stores or junk stores

Diary entry:
DSC_6513
Le Fancy Stool!
We started with this… I removed the seat and covered it with awesome.
Fancy level 20%
That left us with this. Not bad but so dark!
Fancy level 50%
So I painted it with acrylic  and gave a top coat of watery PVA.
And we have this…
Fancy level 90%
Winner!!
I tested it out on the stool first in case it ended up sucking 😀

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50186_15688

It took a couple of coats to get a nice finish. I began painting without bothering to remove the seat part so I wouldn’t get paint on the floor but after doing most of the top I removed it to get closer to the edges.

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50193_15695VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50194_15696VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50195_15697

Eventually it started look good 😀 I used a sponge for an even finish.

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50199_15701

When I had the finish that I wanted I mixed some PVA glue with water to create a wash. I painted over the whole thing with it. The reason for this is to protect the paint and make it more durable. It also gives a slightly shiny finish to it.

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50200_15702VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50201_15703

Taadaaaaa 😀

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50202_15704

So with the test run complete I moved on to the actual vanity 😀

Beauty!

The current beauty set up is messy and awkward

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50220_15722

I was extremely dirty from all of the make up and dust floating around so step one was to clean it up.

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50221_15723VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50225_15727

Next was removing all of the pieces I could without damaging it.

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50228_15730

A couple of coats of paint later and I was well on the way to a nice vanity! I added a pink doily to see if I liked it at this point too.

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50395_15826

I painted the other parts too including the mirror. I masked it off with tape first to make sure the mirror wasn’t damaged.

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50412_15843

The round parts were the most irritating to get smooth.

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50411_15842

Ok so I wanted to make this nice and durable and to be able to clean it easily and not stress about spilling make up on it. The solution? Book covering contact!

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50398_15829

I decided that I liked the pink doily so I glued it down.

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50397_15828VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50399_15830

I cut out the length I needed.

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50401_15832

The little grids made it nice and easy to line things up.

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50402_15833

I cut out tabs so it could go around the top part.

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50403_15834

Then I slowly pulled out the paper and smoothed it all down.

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50404_15835

When it got to the heart I made sure to smooth out all of the little bubbles as I went. It was very irritating to get right!

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50405_15836

Looking good!

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50409_15840VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50408_15839

Aaaad all put together!

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50442_15873

Getting there but not quiiiite what I wanted..

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50443_15874

So I covered James’ guitar case with some nice fabric XD

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50448_15879

Sorry James… well not really sorry XD

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-50449_15880

Putting things back in I was more careful with organisation and making sure that I had things I used often at hand and packing up other things I used less often. Win! I still haven’t organised the stuff on the far left pink shelves because they are going to be folded and stored away soon but everything is coming along 😀

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-60226_17083

James’ guitar case becomes a nice shelf for hair products. I don’t know how I managed to buy only pink hair products, clearly it’s ingrained deeply in my subconscious haha!

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-60230_17087

This is my set up for filming videos, lots and lots of lighting but it also means I can’t see the big mirror so I had to add a second smaller mirror angled so I can see.

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-60231_17088

I have a silicone pot mat to keep my straightener on and everything has a space to stay in, there’s even a heart container to dump old eyelashes in.

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-60228_17085

Things I use every day go up here and my little white picket fence container sits next to it.

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-60232_17089

So much happier with it all clean and neat. It’s easy to keep clean and makes the whole room look so much brighter.

VioletLeBeaux-Vanity-Table-DIY-60235_17092

I am really happy with my first big project for the Home Sweet Home 😀 What do you guys think??

Quick Craft Tutorial- Flower Magnets Again

I’ve done flower magnets before, you can see the daisy ones I did over here, but back to the point I made another set of them for a friend’s care package so I thought you a might like to see it for some other inspiration 😀 Honestly these are a cute idea no matter what kind of flowers you have. Hell I’m just sticking magnets to anything that doesn’t move now XD

Big flower with two lavender sprigs!
