As with all NYE photo posts we have to start with the obligatory fireworks photo.
Every year I’m like “Nope, no more photos of fireworks, they all look the same.” … but… so…. pretty…
CONTENT
And I’ve finally learned how to use long exposures so now they actually kind of look like fireworks XD
We didn’t quite start the new year with a kiss like you’re supposed to… in fact James told Tobias Happy New Year before he did me! Bad James XD
I got to catch up with Berry Travels for lunch which was lovely!
We had ramen, I’ve had such a craving for ramen recently, I think it’s all of this random weather!
I finally ran out of the tea I bought in Germany, so sad it was the perfect blend of yummy and mild. My tea cupboard is actually looking a bit bare, I think it’s time to hit up the shops!
Miss Lottie has been so lazy in the hot weather… to be honest she’s pretty lazy all the time these days!
She lives for her daily brush.
And if you tell her to get up she gives you this face then rolls over.
Bonus photo: drunk Lottie is coming on to you. ‘Sup ladies.
I tried a “bretzel” and it was delicious. I want to try to make some breads and pastries at home now that we have a Kitchenaid!
Also can I point out that Myer has the most disturbing mannequins ever? Seriously, what on earth is going on here?
We went to Ikea to pick up a new kitchen island and I thought this broken glass on the escalator was beautiful.
Like a spider web.
Of course, Ikea means meatballs.
And lastly I think this is the most accurate photo of Celina and my friendship ever. We were waiting while the boys took the heavy things to the car. You’d think she was doing something important like work but she’s actually playing Candy Crush… not like me being all productive and junk knitting >_>
Snapshots time! For Billy Idol Day, James decided to cook a massive feast. It was so huge it had to come out in courses because it didn’t all fit on the table. Like he bought a turkey that weighed more than Lottie. Seriously. We ate turkey for so long after that it was ridiculous.
Any way I promised to explain the concept behind Billy Idol Day in the simplest way possible so here it is…
I don’t like big holiday celebrations, James was used to having big holiday celebrations… we compromised by agreeing to celebrate something we were both totally into: Billy Idol. Because he rocks. Also he did the most awesomely terrible Christmas album, complete with hilariously awesomely terrible music videos. And it kind of grew on it’s own from there. We did it a little bit bigger each year and now Billy Idol Day is our own little family tradition.
Hopefully that answers that!
We bought our first real tree this year, his name is Billy… or William if you want to be more formal.
Of course I had to find him appropriate sized lights.
I used some really cheap crappy washi tape to make some wall decorations! I’m excited by this because now I can do things on this wall without worrying about the paint!
We saw some cute decorations this year…
And some really disturbing ones…
Ate a lot of chocolate…
Got our tree topper printed.
And we even got to see Chrissy and Charles (though this was a little after Billy Idol Day!
Lottie was highly excited to get her present…
I put fairy lights everywhere this year 😀
Then it was down to cooking… or rather it was down to James making the turkey do some kind of inappropriate dance >_>
We had recently been to Vue De Monde with Celina so we decided to continue the experience by calling our restaurant Vue De Quartier or “View of the neighbours” according to google translate XD
We spent most of the day cooking.
And then it was time for the EATING!
Oh my god the fooood.
James invented themed cocktails with candy canes.
The candy canes melted a bit because of the heat but still yummy!
And the turkey!
This was James’ first time cooking a whole turkey and it was sooo good.
He got a bit drunk from the power.
I’m not really sure what’s happening n this photo but I’m assuming that there was some kind of bitchy retorting going on XD
James enjoyed his new present: a fan with a spray bottle attached.
And that was our Billy Idol day this year! It was exhausting but so much fun. We ate wayyy too much food and it was delicious. Boxing Day was spent mostly in a food coma!
Now I need to go sit on a bag of ice because the heat wave we’re having at the moment is absolute murder without air conditioning! ;_;
So I’ve been on a bit of an unplanned extended break. It was due to a combination of unexpected real life events, which meant I just couldn’t keep up with things online 🙁
But new year, new start and even though I don’t generally do resolutions I’ve been working really hard in the first two weeks of this year to make sure I have a whole lot of fun tutorials built up so that if something like this happens again it won’t matter so much. I think if I work extra hard now I’ll be able to have a bit more control over my life which would be awesome!
The schedule I’m working to this year is going to be a little different too, I’m still working to get videos filmed and edited but my aim is to have a weekly plan of:
Monday: Blog post tutorial Tuesday: Video quick tip Wednesday: Blog post tutorial Thursday: Video tutorial Friday: Blog post tutorial Saturday: Blog post snapshots Sunday: Run down of the week’s vlogs
The blog posts are starting again on this schedule starting today and my aim is to build up some videos to start posting them by the beginning of February.
So that’s about it, just wanted to say thank you so much for an amazing 2013, 2014 is going to totally kick it’s butt with awesomeness!!
You know what’s awesome? Eating waffles. You know what’s better than regular waffles? Waffee waffles!!!!
Holy crap this place is amazing, plus they gave away free little waffle phone danglies the first few days they were open! Do these guys know me or what!?
Best waffle I’ve ever had. It’s on Swanston St between Collins and Flinders Lane if you’re in Melbourne. I got white chocolate.
Everyone was so friendly too and the store is just adorable! Yummy coffee too. The mocha I had was more like a hot chocolate with coffee!
Some arts and crafts!
James put my dog in his old frying pan. I don’t know what to say there.
So sad to be throwing these stockings away 🙁 They are like 8 years old and so cute but so worn through. Goodbye sentimental stockings!
Random things I saw. Poodle shoes! Yes, the sunglasses were moveable.
This display in Myer is so weird. One child holding another on a leash while it looks like it’s pooping… wtf? >_>
The new awesome Tamagotchis are here! Ugh so tempting but so expensive!
Hot Star opened! It’s next to GongCha and they make Taiwanese fried chicken. The marketing says it’s guaranteed bigger than your head… YEP!
The line was insane!
They gave us candy because the wait was so long! (45 minutes)
Totally worth it, delicious!
Lottie is enjoying her walks again!
New cute pins!
I want this popcorn maker so bad but it is completely pointless and would take up a LOT of bench space that we don’t even have =(
We tried to go to the Noodle Night Market but it was crazy busy so we went to another Japanese place.
Rice Workshop was the place we ended up at, it was pretty good!
Illustrator. Strong tea, knitting, watercolours, and making a video game called Moonlight in Garland. Living with her adorable husband Jimmy, fluffy puppy Miss Lottie and Bergamot Bunny in Melbourne, Australia.
