Violet's Fun Storage Ideas- Dresser

Following on from my previous storage idea posts today we move on to my dresser! If you need to catch up you can find the first post on my wardrobe here and the updated wardrobe one here.

My dresser is really precious to me, my Mother bought it somewhere in Brisbane and when she moved to Japan I kept it, it’s moved through 5 houses so far and was the only piece of furniture that we bothered taking from Brisbane to Melbourne with us. It was almost left behind because of space constrictions but James’ parents were lovely enough to drive it down for us.

While it’s most likely not actually an antique I love the style and all of the detail in it, the seat has been reupholstered from the looks of it and is about due to be done again so that’s on my list of projects to do ^_^

I dont’ usually sit down and do things like hair or make up here but it makes a great storage space as well as looking very pretty.

Violet's Random Storage Ideas

Main points about it:

  • The stool leaves ample storage space underneath so I keep our fan there. There is also room for more storage on either side.
  • The drawer holds all the pretty things that are a bit useless but too pretty to throw away.
  • Lots of storage space for nail polishes and gloves underneath that!
  • Night time cream, perfumes and anything that feels nice and luxurious ends up on this table. It’s where I look and sit when I’m feeling a bit down because all the pretty things really cheer me up!
  • I keep things here that I need in a hurry when getting dressed like safety pins or small scissors to snip threads on a dress.
  • Once I get some better lighting I am planning to set this up as my new video area so I can film make up and hair tutorials much more easily 😀
  • I keep my gloves underneath the nail polish for easy access in winter.

So let’s look at stuff in a bit more detail! Firstly the nail polish.

Violet's Random Storage Ideas

For the longest time I couldn’t decide how I wanted to store my nail polishes. In our town house I didn’t have many so I kept them in a bag, then it became a big plastic box then there were so many that I lined my windows with them then there were too many for that too so I sucked it up and finally bought some little shelves. I loved these shelves because they are quite roomy so you can still see which polish is which as well as being adorable with the little heart cut outs along the side.

I divide the polishes up by colour so I can quickly find things I need for nail art. Most of my other nail art supplies are kept in a box with my crafting things but I keep basics that I use a lot like small brushes, nail treatments etc here for easy access.

Violet's Random Storage Ideas

I like to hang and decorate the mirror of this too, it’s the perfect place to put headphones, earmuffs and other things roughly that shape. Of course I made those bunny ear muffs like 6 years ago and still have not used them once so at this point I’d say they are definitely more decorative than functional XD I decorated the mirror with a pocket watch I bought in Japan and some A.P. charms.

Moving over to the middle…

Violet's Random Storage Ideas

I have a stack of night creams and things I’m working through for reviews or testing out so they all sit here. To be honest so far none of them have had noticeable results either good or bad so I haven’t bothered writing about them yet! They are all housed in the little wooden box I decorated ages ago.

Next to that there is an old Innocent World calendar that was given to me by a great friend many years ago and in front of that is my small collection of perfumes. I don’t generally wear much perfume but there are some I love (like MOR, The Body Shop’s Cherry Blossom, Epicly Epic’s Cake fragrance) so they keep here along with others that were either sent by PR agencies or happen to have pretty bottles that I’m trying to work out how to refill with something better without damaging XD

I also keep little random pretty things I’ve collected here like pretty combs/mirrors/dolls etc.

I like to keep similar items grouped together like all my perfumes in one place, all my hair things in one place etc because I’m so forgetful that if I don’t know where to look I will probably never use them >_<

In front of that…

Violet's Random Storage Ideas

Next we have a music box that was my grandmothers (I think) and it’s home to utility things like scissors and safety pins. It also holds things I’ve just taken off when I got home but not gotten around to putting away like the S.O.P.H.I.E bracelets. I keep my (no idea what this is actually called so I’m going to guess) make up hair pulling back headband thing here too so if I’m applying moisturisers etc I don’t have to go and try to find it in the bathroom XD

The right side:

Violet's Random Storage Ideas

This vase was another pretty find from the throw away pile in our building. Some people moved out and their entire house was furnished with this kind of thing and everything they couldn’t sell just got dumped in the hard rubbish downstairs, that was a great day!! I am allergic to flowers so inside lives my meerkat from the Melbourne Zoo, his name is ThunderKat and I think he should have that expression all the time XD

Again when you have limited space, it’s a good idea to fill every place you can with stuff. We don’t have a linen cupboard so underneath ThunderKat is used to store tea towels for the kitchen!

From above…

Violet's Random Storage Ideas

You can see that while there is a whole lot of stuff on the dresser it’s organised well enough that there is still space in the middle so it’s functional. All of the larger items are at the back so I can easily see everything at a glance.

Inside the drawer…

Violet's Random Storage Ideas

I lined the drawer with leopard print paper (tutorial coming soon) to make it a bit more me and like a crazy hidden oasis of bling inside a nice fancy old fashioned dresser. I suppose that’s maybe a metaphor for myself hahaha!

Inside it I keep all of my deco projects that I no longer use daily but can’t stand to throw away. Business cards, old phone cases, cameras, keep sakes, anything shiny and pretty that doesn’t have a home anywhere else. It’s so bright in here it’s like looking into the sun 😉

The only sensible thing here is the lint brush which is useful and I need in quick reach for when going out. Everything here is pretty haphazardly thrown in but I think that’s what I like about it 😀 You wouldn’t know it too look at but this little dresser holds so much stuff that it’s become a really valuable piece of storage in my room.

So that’s it about this one I think. Let me know if you have any questions and if this has been useful, next time I will show you my sets of shelves, then shoes, craft area and bathroom after that ^_^

Zoya Flash Collection Nail Polish Swatches

When the ever awesome You’ve Got Nail mentioned she had a present for me I didn’t think it would be a whole collection of Zoya polishes *_* I had mentioned wanting to try them because the brand is so highly regarded and she gave me the whole Flash collection! I was in heaven XD

Let the review begin!

Brand: Zoya, Flash collection.

From: The lovely You’ve Got Nail gifted these to me! You can get them here. Extra props for the Zoya website because they have so much extra information on the polishes like the finish, the colour intensity on a scale of 1-5 and you can order spoon samples. I very much like companies that go the extra mile like that.

Price: $8 each or $36 for the set

Volume: 15ml

Bottle: Squareish, thinner at the bottom, rounded corners, flared black top. Easy to store and stack, looks very nice, no complaints here.

Brush: Average size, and very flexible. Very smooth bristles.

Drying Time: Roughly the same for all of them. Reasonably quick drying time.

Colour Name: Jolene.

Description: Nice bright slightly blue toned pink.

VioletLeBeauxDSC_0606_1474

Thoughts: This whole collection totally lives up to it’s name, it is BRIGHT. These are good bright summer colours, probably nothing office job appropriate here XD Following on from that this pink is a big blueish pink, it’s bright but it’s got a depth that I often find missing from other colours this bright.VioletLeBeauxDSC_0607_1475Good for: -Decora style manicures, I can see this looking good with a LOT of bling over it. -Probably good for Konad because these are all very opaque. -Bright fun summer or spring styles.Bad for: – Office/conservative work friendly manicures.VioletLeBeauxDSC_0608_1476

Colour Name: Maura

Description: Bright as hell orangey red.

VioletLeBeauxDSC_0610_1478

Thoughts: This is one of those show stopper colours. You can’t get much redder than this. The thing that really made me love this collection was the consistency. Every single polish had an equally good formula and every one was pretty much opaque in one coat and looked stunning in two.

VioletLeBeauxDSC_0609_1477

Good for: -Grabbing attention -Flame themed nail art -Probably good for Konad because these are all very opaque. -Bright fun summer or spring styles.

Bad for: – Office/conservative work friendly manicures. -Any remote kind of subtly.

VioletLeBeauxDSC_0611_1479

Colour Name: Jancyn

Description: Traffic cone orange. Can’t put it better than that.

VioletLeBeauxDSC_0612_1480

Thoughts: Love this colour because it’s completely versatile. It’s pretty and could work in so many different ways, I’m thinking this with black lace tips for Autumn, or white polkadots for Summer. I don’t normally like oranges but for some reason this was my favorite out of the collection.

VioletLeBeauxDSC_0613_1481

Good for: -Halloween themed nail art, reminds me of pumpkins and candy corn. Man I wish it was easier to get candy corn here!! -Probably good for Konad because these are all very opaque. -Bright fun summer or spring styles.

Bad for: – Office/conservative work friendly manicures.

VioletLeBeauxDSC_0614_1482

Colour Name: Dana

Description: Darker deep pink, in some lights it verges on the red side of things.

VioletLeBeauxDSC_0616_1483

Thoughts: This is one of those fun colours which seems to be different in any number of lighting situations. Sometimes it’s a bright pink, sometimes it’s almost a deep red, it’s a very interesting colour combination either way and it sets it a bit apart from being just another boring pink.

VioletLeBeauxDSC_0617_1484

Good for: -A slightly different/modern take on all of the old fashion red manicure designs. -Probably good for Konad because these are all very opaque. -Bright fun summer or spring styles.

Bad for: – Office/conservative work friendly manicures.

VioletLeBeauxDSC_0618_1485

Colour Name: Robyn

Description: Bright sky blue.

VioletLeBeauxDSC_0619_1486 Thoughts:

It can be hard to find variations of blue polishes but this is a nice change! Out of all of the polishes in the collection, this is probably the one with the most variation between coats. It’s very build-able so I imagine you could create some really interesting designs especially with multi layered konading.

VioletLeBeauxDSC_0620_1487

Good for: -Sky/rainbow nail art -Probably good for Konad because these are all very opaque. Would like to try using this to multilayer konad. -Bright fun summer or spring styles.

Bad for: – Office/conservative work friendly manicures.

VioletLeBeauxDSC_0621_1488

Colour Name: Perrie

Description: Redish purple.

VioletLeBeauxDSC_0622_1489

Thoughts: Out of all of the colours in this collection this one is probably the only one that isn’t immediately bright and summery. It fits with the collection when you look a them as a whole but by itself it kind of reminds me more of an overcast kind of day. Not that it’s a bad thing, I actually really like the colour and it did feel a little easier on the eyes after all of the super brights 😉

VioletLeBeauxDSC_0624_1490

Good for: -Good base or highlight for gothic designs. -Probably good for Konad because these are all very opaque. -Spring/summer themes without going too far over the top

Bad for: – Office/conservative work friendly manicures. -Being bright and cheery on it’s own

VioletLeBeauxDSC_0625_1491

VERTICT: As a whole I loved the collection, while they aren’t exactly colours I would wear plain every day they are all versatile and opaque enough to be really valuable colours for nail art. The formula is smooth and has a great smooth consistency which makes it easy for beginners to get a nice finish. The price per bottle is reasonably cheap for Aus so I wouldn’t hesitate to order. DO WANT.

Melbourne Snapshots – Fashion Addict

Another edition of Snapshots today ^_^ I’ve been quite lazy in writing these entries but I want to get back into it as a weekly thing because it’s such a good way to keep a record of fun things I do. I had considered moving all of the snapshots over to the Cuties section of the blog rather than posting them here but I can’t decide. What do you guys think? Prefer them like this or would you rather them spaced out several times a day on the Cuties section? Maybe we should take a vote, it’s been a while since I took a poll XD

A few weeks back Celeste and I were lucky enough to be invited to the Fashion Addict warehouse for a tour. I don’t know if David knew what he was in for when he invited two beauty obsessed girls, I mean I know that You’ve Got Nail warned him about letting me into the wig/false eyelash section of the store but no amount of preparation can be quite enough I think XD

It was the grown up version of being a kid in a candy store!VioletLeBeauxP1040589_1542 copy

Look at all these bangles!!

VioletLeBeauxP1040567_1520 copy

And tea cup necklaces!

James and I met up with Thomas and Sakie who are bloggers from Japan who were on their way to Singapore. We started the night wondering what we would all have in common but it turned out that we have very similar tastes XD

VioletLeBeauxP1040554_1507 copy

Also it was an excuse to finally try Max Brenner chocolate which I’ve been wanting to for ages. It was pretty good but definitely not the best I’ve had here.

VioletLeBeauxP1040552_1505 copy

I didn’t get any photos of Thomas or Sakie ;_; If you guys read this remember to email me the ones you got!!

VioletLeBeauxP1040555_1508 copy

I’ve been thinking what to do for my birthday this year, I don’t actually normally celebrate it but for some reason I’m feeling extra festive this year so I might actually do something! Let me know if you guys have any suggestions of things I might like to do ^_^

I thought this cake was really pretty!

VioletLeBeauxP1040559_1512 copy

I’ve been obsessed with spotting gargoyles on top of the old buildings here, there are so many of them hidden up on the roof tops!

VioletLeBeauxP1040475_835 copy

I’ve also been making a point to go down alley ways we don’t usually go through to try and find new cute things. Melbourne is one of those places that has so many little alleys and streets that even if I spent my whole life looking through them all I probably wouldn’t find half of the cute places XD

VioletLeBeauxP1040560_1513 copy

There have been a lot of protests in the city too recently. There are always protests going on in town but I think there have been more than usual because the Federal budget came out last week :S

VioletLeBeauxP1040556_1509 copy

I saw these adorable fingerless gloves/mittens the other day and I want to make some! I clearly don’t have enough panda themed clothing and I love the idea of fingerless gloves that turn into mittens.

VioletLeBeauxP1040449_809 copy

I also spotted these super cute bunny and bear scissors in Tokuya, so sweet!

VioletLeBeauxP1040436_383 copy VioletLeBeauxP1040435_382 copy

Celeste came back to visit for a little while and took us to the cutest little bubble tea place on Bourke Street. Can’t remember the name but they had these chairs suspended from the roof and the whole place was decorated with flowers. They had an area where you could rent little cubicles by the month and sell things too, I’m considering making some stuff and giving it a try ^_^

VioletLeBeauxP1040429_376 copy

The tea was nice but the food was kind of not great.

VioletLeBeauxP1040430_377 copy

James was too busy playing on his phone to pose or eat so I took matters into my own hands haha!

VioletLeBeauxP1040433_380 copy

I had tea with my Mother at one of the cafes that opened in Myer since it had it’s refurbishment and they had the cutest tea set…

VioletLeBeauxP1040445_805 copy

And lastly here is a cute take on a ladies room sign I spotted in one of the city McDonalds, very posh haha!

VioletLeBeauxP1040441_388 copy

That’s all for now! What have you guys been up to??
