Formula 10.0.6 So Totally Clean Cleanser

Obtained: Gift Bag.

Thoughts:

I don’t think I’m quite the target market for this product. It states on the back that it “excels at perfecting troublesome young skin” which doesn’t really describe me. I like the bottle size and the design is very pretty. I was interested that the bottle says it’s been around since 1933 because I hadn’t heard of them until now.

The scent is very clean and soapy, I found it quite pleasant but if scent is something that you’re sensitive to then smell before you buy. The consistency is very watery and it is absorbed into the skin easily. It left an odd feeling on my skin though, it was smooth but a tiny bit sticky. I did wonder how it would absorb into different skin as I’m obviously not who this was designed for. So overall not for me but if you have “troublesome young skin” this might be something for you!

Would I buy Formula 10.0.6 So Totally Clean Cleanser again: Not for me. Maybe for someone in the target market.

Fred Farrugia Palette Kit Review

VioletLeBeauxP1060344_17255

Fred Farrugia Palette Kit Neutrals

Obtained: Gift from a friend.

Thoughts:

I love interchangeable palettes. The Fred Farrugia system is all about magnetic swatch palettes which you can mix and match to get the perfect set. You can get mirrors, brush sets and pretty much anything to click together like lego into a pretty palette. A friend bought me back this kit from trip to Europe. It contains the mirror and top, two brown shadows a peachy lip colour and dark brown which can me used as eyeliner or lightly as a contour colour. My absolute favorite thing about this collection is that I can apply everything with my fingers. I can get a look start to finish without touching a brush or applicator! For that reason I kept it in my handbag for months for those days when I just couldn’t be bothered with anything.

The shadows apply like silk and the colour pay off is lovely. The lip gloss is a little sticky but the beautiful shimmer makes up for that. The last palette is fantastic as a smudgy eyeliner. No real negatives here other than the fact that I don’t think it’s sold in Aus ;_;

Would I buy Fred Farrugia Palette Kit again: Yep, like all of the levels and I think I’d like to add in some more colours to create a completely custom  version for my bag or traveling.

BOA Protective Face Cream Review

VioletLeBeauxP1070528_18640

BOA Protective Face Cream

Obtained: Gift bag.

Thoughts:

I really like the packaging of the BOA line. It’s so smooth, simple and not OTT. I love all face products with SPF in them and I know that FOA/BOA have done extensive testing to get a good formula for their sun protection products so that’s another plus.  The formula is not too thick or watery, it does look like sunscreen but it rubs in extremely easily. After using several times I still couldn’t work out if I enjoyed the scent or not. It’s not really strong but it’s quite floral so I would suggest testing in store first if that’s something you’re sensitive to. I really like the explanation of the ingredients on the back of the bottle too. So overall I’d say this is a pretty good face cream but definitely give it a sniff before buying.

Would I buy BOA Protective Face Cream again: The scent was a little much for my tastes but otherwise yes.

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Body Gloss

VioletLeBeauxP1070519_18631

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Body Gloss

Obtained: Bought

Thoughts:

I’m a big fan of Palmers Cocoa Butter so I thought I would give the gloss version a try. It’s a thinner consistency and packed with shimmer, when I say packed I mean PACKED. It feels moisturising and easier to apply than the regular formula because of the consistency. Unfortunately because it’s so shimmery I found it a bit hard to wear because out in the sun it’s just so shiny, I love glitter but even I thought it was too much XD I think this would be good as a highlighter used in very small amounts. I prefer my highlighters in powder or gel so this one isn’t for me. Could be good for those who prefer liquid highlighters though!

Would I buy Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Body Gloss again: No, it has too much shimmer for me.

Schwarzkopf Super Styling Creme-Gel Review

VioletLeBeauxP1070518_18630

Schwarzkopf Super Styling Creme-Gel

Obtained: Gift bag.

Thoughts:

I don’t like using gel in my hair because I prefer styles which are free and more natural but I quite like this for styling short hair. I’ve used it on several different models on James’ photoshoots and it worked very well in men’s hair to give volume and style with very little effort. In all but one of the models I used it on the hold was great, the other guy had very hard to manage hair which just would not stick so I’d say this still worked pretty well. It smelled quite nice too so I would definitely use it if I did styles requiring gel ore often!

Would I buy Schwarzkopf Super Styling Creme-Gel again: Maybe, I don’t do many styles that require this kind of product but it’s good to have just in case.

Cleaning Your Make Up Brushes With Baking Soda

I hate cleaning make up brushes. Well I hate cleaning most things, but I’m especially lazy when it comes to make up brushes. It’s such an important thing but it takes so long to properly clean them >_<

So this is the method I use when I’m doing a proper clean.

I use baking soda for cleaning brushes that have been used with just powder and a little mild shampoo for those used with foundations or anything liquidy. I’ve been wanting to try the vinegar method for that too so it’s on the shopping list.

While we’re here I thought I’d show you the main brushes I use in case anyone’s interested.VioletLeBeaux-How-To-Clean-Make-Up-Brushes-801_18921Top: FoundationMiddle: Blush

So why do I use baking soda and is it suitable for you too?

Baking soda is awesome for cleaning a whole lot of things. I always have a supply of it because I also use it in place of shampoo. I know it doesn’t bother my skin or face in the same way that some other products do because I already use it on my hair. If you have any allergies or sensitivities be very careful and consult a doctor before committing to putting something on your face. Patch testing is good too.

It’s also extremely cheap at around $1.50 a box. It may or may not be suitable for you to use on your brushes. Soaking is always risky with brushes because if they are not well made it can loosen the glue used to hold the bristles in and therefore cause shedding. If your brushes shed already I wouldn’t recommend soaking them. I prefer soaking to other methods because I feel like it cleans better but honestly that’s probably just a mental thing haha!

So first thing is to fill a small container with warm water and adding a couple of teaspoons of the baking soda. Mix it around but don’t worry if it doesn’t completely dissolve.

One by one add a brush to the water and swoosh it around in the liquid. Make sure to get all of the bristles wet, you’ll probably start seeing powders and pigments coming out.

The water looks pretty gross after a few brushes!

VioletLeBeaux-How-To-Clean-Make-Up-Brushes-815_18935

Tip the container out and refill it with fresh warm water. Add some more baking soda and leave the brushes to soak for 20 minutes or so. This is when I usually clean my foundation brushes.

Again this may or may not be suitable for your brushes.

VioletLeBeaux-How-To-Clean-Make-Up-Brushes-819_18939

Once they have soaked I give each brush a quick run under clean water and make sure there’s no more dirt there with my fingers.

VioletLeBeaux-How-To-Clean-Make-Up-Brushes-823_18943

Smooth the bristles into shape again and squeeze out any water.

Leave them to dry completely  and you’ve got nice clean brushes ready to be used! I always leave this for a night when I know I won’t need them the next day so they can dry naturally. Some people will dry with a hair dryer to use right away but I don’t like that because it can loosen the glue as well as causing the bristles to dry out of shape.

That’s it! Clean brushes very cheap and easily 😀
