How To Use Baking Soda As Dry Shampoo

A quick video on how I use baking soda in between washes as a cheap and effective dry shampoo. It’s kinda messy but it works well and of course you would wash it all out when you wash your hair regularly! The lights make my hair extra shiny looking at the end so I probably should have used a bit more this time XD

How To Use Baking Soda As Dry Shampoo Instructions
Morning!
Today I’ll show you how I deal with oily roots in between washes: baking soda.
My hair takes a long time to dry so I can’t always wash it when I want to.
In between washes if I have oily roots I use baking sode as a dry shampoo.
Easy and cheap!
Using it couldn’t be simpler.
Pour some of the powder into your hair.
Sprinkle it through your hair concentrating at the roots.
The baking soda acts as a dry shampoo and soaks up all fo the oils.
Best to do this over a sink so it doesn’t get everywhere and make a mess.
A tip from James:
Don’t let your partner kiss the top of your head because apparently it tastes horrible and he will complain about it for days.
Don’t forget the sides and back too!
Wait a few minutes for it to soak everything up.
Baking soda can also give some extra texture too.
Brush all fo the powder out.
This might take a bit longer if you have darker hair.
Taadaa!
Not as clean as just washed hair but good enough to style and go out.
I hope this was a useful video, please check out the blog post linked in the description for more information and tutorials.
Thanks so much for watching.
Bye!

Flower Arranging – Home Sweet Home

So my first few projects for the Home Sweet Home theme are taking longer to write than I expected so I’m skipping them for now and moving on to the third… because I’m the god of my notebook and I say I can… so there ^_^

The result is that today I’m playing with flower arranging!

VioletLeBeauxP1050140_15642

From my diary:

Home-Make-Over-Journal-8

Project 3. That Stupid Corner!

There is a corner in our lounge that I hate. It has a box platform plastered in and because it’s next to the TV and the heater it’s terrible for decorating. I want to sove this puzzle by putting our black hole vase there and filling it with flowers and other trinkets.

Home-Make-Over-Journal-9

I have a random collection of flowers and bits and pieces to use.

This is my vase, we found it in the throw away pile downstairs. I call that place The Black Hole because it magically makes cool stuff appear but more on that in another post! I like this vase because it’s tall and has a pretty floral pattern with a classic shape.

VioletLeBeauxP1050124_15626

These are the flowers I had to fill it with. Some of them are from my junk store stash, some were given to me by Celeste when she moved and some are keep sakes. There’s the peacock feather James found me at the zoo and my flower from the Langham as well as some little jewel trinkets.

VioletLeBeauxP1050126_15628

The reason I chose these flowers in particular was because they all had complimentary colours and interesting textures. Some of them are soft, some pointy, some little, some big and some tall, some short.

VioletLeBeauxP1050127_15629

Most of them had wire stems so to get different heights I just bent them to the length I wanted or snipped off the bottom. I preferred to bend them though so the vase looked fuller.

VioletLeBeauxP1050128_15630

To fill the vase I started with the biggest  tallest pieces in the back.

VioletLeBeauxP1050129_15631

I added pieces in odd numbers, so 3 long pointy pieces with small flowers.

VioletLeBeauxP1050130_15632

Then the rest of the tall pieces around the back. There was no point adding them to the front as they would be covered by smaller flowers.

VioletLeBeauxP1050133_15635

I didn’t stick to just flowers either, feathers, jewels and anything with a nice texture is good to fill in gaps.

VioletLeBeauxP1050134_15636

Next I added a layer of medium flowers to fill the entire front of the vase so you couldn’t see in through the gaps anymore. The big roses were really good for this and because they also had some netting sections it was even better to give variety.

VioletLeBeauxP1050135_15637

I put some large diamantes and crystals throughout the whole thing.

VioletLeBeauxP1050137_15639

And lastly added some little tiny flowers to cover any annoying gaps.

VioletLeBeauxP1050136_15638

To dress the corner up a bit I first put an old cake stand on the box. This gives the arrangement extra height and it’s a good place to store the cake stand which never actually gets used XD

VioletLeBeauxP1050142_15644

Taadaa!

VioletLeBeauxP1050144_15646

After playing around with the placement  added a pretty green bow and moved some of the taller flowers so it looked like a one sided sweep and pointed towards the window. I really like the way it brightens up the room!

What do you guys think? Another project done!

How To Make A Simple Ric Rac Rose Headband

Ricrac roses are eeeeeeverywhere *_* I remember when my grandma used to make these and put them on the dresses she made for me as a kid. They were hideous dresses, she picked the brightest fabric she could because she was going bind and she had the same pattern she used for *all* of the grandchildren. *shudder* I still have nightmares about bright yellow dresses with matching hats. I don’t know why but when I was a child everything came with a matching hat >_<

Anyway tangent aside I actually always liked these roses and they have completely taken over the internet. I can’t open Pinterest or Etsy without seeing them adorning earrings or shoes… so if you can’t beat them join them!

This is the way I made a ricrac headband for a friend 😀

VioletLeBeaux-Rick-Rack-Rose-68_15035

I personally think ric rac is pretty useless, it can work well in small amounts but it always just reminds me of circus costumes for some reason. I have several packets of the stuff which was at the bottom of a random sewing bag I got from a friend’s daughter’s school fete. Bought when
Australia still measured things in Yards XD

VioletLeBeaux-Rick-Rack-Rose-39_15006So you need:

  • Ric Rac
  • Glue or needle and thread
Cut two long pieces of ric rac or just fold it in half.

VioletLeBeaux-Rick-Rack-Rose-40_15007

Twist the two pieces together so they form one long strand.

VioletLeBeaux-Rick-Rack-Rose-41_15008

The length you need will depend on how big you want your flower but you do need a decent amount.

VioletLeBeaux-Rick-Rack-Rose-42_15009

Roll the end into a little spiral. Fix it with a stitch or a dot of glue on the back.

VioletLeBeaux-Rick-Rack-Rose-43_15010

Roll, roll, roll and roll some more until you have something along these lines 😀 Poke the end underneath.

VioletLeBeaux-Rick-Rack-Rose-44_15011

Stitch or glue it all on the bottom!

VioletLeBeaux-Rick-Rack-Rose-45_15012

Flip the outer layers down so they sit flat. I think its easier to do this if you’ve glued the bottom because stitching can have a lot less give to move it around.

VioletLeBeaux-Rick-Rack-Rose-46_15013

Done!

VioletLeBeaux-Rick-Rack-Rose-47_15014

Cute!

VioletLeBeaux-Rick-Rack-Rose-48_15015

Just promise me you won’t be putting them on any scary dresses XD

VioletLeBeaux-Rick-Rack-Rose-49_15016

Instead add them to something slightly more subtle and slightly less neon such as a pearl headband!

VioletLeBeaux-Rick-Rack-Rose-69_15036VioletLeBeaux-Rick-Rack-Rose-71_15038

Hope you enjoyed and it doesn’t bring back any horrible memories of your grandma’s sewing XD

How To Make Snowflake Window Stickers Instructions
Today I’m making snowflake window stickers!
Start by drawing your design on to a sheet of baking paper.
I’m doing a snow flake but you can do whatever shape you like.
Use puff paint to trace the design.
You can also buy proper window sticker paint but puff hair is cheaper and more accessible where I live.
Experiment with different sizes and thicknesses depending on the paint.
You may find that if your paint is too runny you won’t be able to do small details.
You can also cut the tip of the paint to create different shapes kind of like piping cream.
Leave it until it’s completely dry, mine took overnight.
Gently peel it off the paper when it’s completely dry.
Be gentle so you don’t damage any of the little parts.
Wet the back slightly and apply it to your window.
Done!
These are a great way to brighten up any room… so long as you have a window obviously.
Such a fun and easy project, next time I want to do a bunch of little stars to decorate my mirror with.
Check out the link in the description for a photo version of the tutorial on my blog.
I hope you enjoyed the video, good luck if you give it a try and thanks so much for watching!

How To Make DIY Faux Fur Boot Cover

I posted this photo a little while ago on my mobile blog and a couple of people asked for a tutorial so here it is ^_^

VioletLeBeaux-Boot-Cover-DIY-Tutorial-_4550_16385

A few weeks ago I was asked to model in the Asia Pacific L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival for local store Glamaz. They stock a lot of my favorite brands like Lizlisa etc so I said HELL YES :DAnyway the look called for white fur shoes to match the coat but they didn’t have any in stock in my size at the time so I figured it was a good chance just to make some myself. You need:

  • Base shoes with a decent heel and an ankle strap. I’ll do another version for non-ankle strap shoes later.
  • Faux fur
  • Material for the inside, I used polar fleece
  • Sewing machine or needle and thread (sewing fake fur by hand is VERY tedious though)
  • Ribbons (optional)
VioletLeBeaux-Boot-Cover-DIY-Tutorial-14_15770
So these are my shoes. I love them a very inappropriate amount so there was no way I was going to do anything permanent to them.

VioletLeBeaux-Boot-Cover-DIY-Tutorial-12_15768

So before I start just a quick tip on sewing faux fur: make sure the hairs and pointing away from the stitching as much as you can before you sew otherwise it will get caught in the stitching and be very annoying to get undone later. Also if you’re going to cut, separate the pile down the cut line before you snip so you get minimum hair all over the place.

VioletLeBeaux-Boot-Cover-DIY-Tutorial-18_15774

Right, so we need to measure how long the faux fur needs to be. Wrap it around one of the shoes and use that as a length measurement. Remember to include a seam allowance and it’s always better to cut too much than too little.

VioletLeBeaux-Boot-Cover-DIY-Tutorial-16_15772

So this is the height and width I ended up with. Make sure it’s tall enough to cover the top of the shoe easily as well as hide your toes.

VioletLeBeaux-Boot-Cover-DIY-Tutorial-19_15775

I made sure to leave plenty extra on the top and sides for seams.

VioletLeBeaux-Boot-Cover-DIY-Tutorial-21_15777

Cut out a matching piece of polar fleece but make it around 5cm shorter in the height measurement. This is because we really don’t want it sticking out on the wrong side.

VioletLeBeaux-Boot-Cover-DIY-Tutorial-20_15776

Place the polar fleece on the furry side of the faux fur and stitch down both long sides so it makes a tube.

VioletLeBeaux-Boot-Cover-DIY-Tutorial-22_15778

You should have something like this, see that there’s more fur than polar fleece when it’s laid flat.

VioletLeBeaux-Boot-Cover-DIY-Tutorial-23_15779

Turn it inside out and you can see how it’s supposed to sit better.

VioletLeBeaux-Boot-Cover-DIY-Tutorial-25_15781

And wrapped around the shoe you can see it coming together.

VioletLeBeaux-Boot-Cover-DIY-Tutorial-27_15783

Measure how big it needs to be to get around the shoe and then stitch the ends of the tube together. I started at the end of the polar fleece, went around to the fur then finished up at the bottom of the polar fleece again. You can’t do the whole thing on the machine because it needs to turn slightly inside out to finish up so you will need to leave a gap at the end, it’s easier to hand stitch polar fleece so leave it there.

VioletLeBeaux-Boot-Cover-DIY-Tutorial-28_15784

Afterwards you should have this:

VioletLeBeaux-Boot-Cover-DIY-Tutorial-30_15786

Hand stitch up the gap and make one  for the other shoe too.

VioletLeBeaux-Boot-Cover-DIY-Tutorial-29_15785

Now to hold them onto the shoe you have a couple of options:

  • Slide them on and hope they don’t fall down during the day. Not recommended.
  • Add two ribbon loops that you can slide the ankle strap of the shoe through so it stays in place all day. Recommended.
  • Rush out the door because you are running late for your own fashion show and cut a couple of holes in the polar fleece so you can slide the ankle strap of the shoe through it. It’ll hold for now until you can do something a bit better and more permanent like the ribbon option later.
So guess which I chose.

VioletLeBeaux-Boot-Cover-DIY-Tutorial-31_15787

Anyway, ribbon is obviously the best option, just stitch a couple of little pieces on the inside that line up with the ankle straps on the shoes and you’re good to go.

Pop the cuff on the shoe and you’re finished! Really much easier than it actually sounds XD

VioletLeBeaux-Boot-Cover-DIY-Tutorial-_4549_16384

I added a pin bow off one of my dresses to each side and that’s how the crisis was averted 😀

VioletLeBeaux-Boot-Cover-DIY-Tutorial-_4548_16383

And for bonus points, here’s a photo of me wearing them during the practice run 😀

-Boot-Cover-DIY-Tutorial-7gSZcZ-8

I really like them and now I’m thinking of buying a couple of other colours of fur so I can have different cuffs for different shoes. What do you guys think?

A few weeks ago I was invited to get my nails done by Miss Clara. We didn’t have enough time to do a full set at the Tsumiki event so I came back a week later for a set of acrylics and 3D nail art.

I gave her some inspiration of using Bergamot and knowing my tastes she came up with a Bergamot x LizLisa inspired theme. LOVE THEM! I had a lovely time and even weeks later they look absolutely perfect so be sure to check out Clara at Tsumiki!

3D Japanese Nail Art Bunnies and Flowers
Hi Everyone!
Today we’re at Tsumiki Salon and the lovely Clara is going to do my nails.
Oh no wait, don’t look at my nails now, look at them after.
So we were talking about designs and stuff and I figured we could use Bergamot somehow because she hasn’t been on the blog too much and this is a good opportunity!
Hurray!
Clara- We’re going to do acrylic nails for Violet today because she’s got really short nails. She’s a nail biter, naughty girl.
So we’re going to get some acrylic nails done and hopefully incorporate Bergamot in the design.
Clara H, Violet LeBeaux at Tsumiki design.
Bergamot Bunny Nail Art.
Clara prepped and buffed my nails.
Then applied acrylic nail extensions
I chose a long length and shape for extra design room.
She created a pink and silver glitter gradient to my thumbs and ring fingers.
Under coat.
Milky base coat.
She worked pink glitter in layers for the gradient.
Then added silver.
Next Clara painted flowers on my other nails.
Light pink acrylic paint splotches were the base.
The splotches were then outlined in dark pink to create roses.
Next she added tiny green leaves.
Outlines for more definition were added in other colours.
Clara then applied a clear top coat.
Next up were the acrylic Bergamots.
So much focus!
Not so much here.
Bergamot’s face consists of an oval.
and two lopsided sausage ears.
The ears have little hearts in them.
Plus a floppy bow.
Clara painted the face details in acrylic paint.
The thumb design started with a tea container.
Then Bergamot’s body hugging it from the side.
Clara worked in some insanely tiny details.
Lastly she topped it off with some bling.
The acrylic areas were all top coated.
When she was done it was time to camwhore a bit.
So the verdict from the Tsumiki staff?
AWESOME!!
Epic nails were promised and epic nails were delivered. Thank you so much Clara!
Clara- you’re welcome, I hope you like them
I love them, they look exactly like Bergamot.
Please go on and visit Clara’s website and blog, links will be down below.
She’s going to start a youtube channel with tutorials and stuff soon so make sure to check it! And I will post links there too!
Thank you so much!
Clara- thank you!
Bye!
The nails look amazing!Check out the blog post in the description for some big photos of all the details.
Clara is insanely talented and I would recommend her 100% especially if you love 3D Japanese style work as much as I do!
Definitely have a look at her website for more beautiful nailart. www.Clarahnails.com
Thank you for a wondering afternoon Clara!
