Turn A Dress To A Skirt And Shirt – Quick Craft

Meet Quinn my new mannequin ^_^ She was a gift from an extremely lovely friend and she’s allowing me to do a whoooole lot more sewing! I’m so excited to work on more sewing projects.

I’m planning to do a tutorial as I customise her to my exact measurements as well which should be really fun!

The first project that I decided to do using Quinn was remaking a dress I got from DreamV into a skirt and blouse set.

This was the dress originally:

It was a really pretty dress but they were out of smalls so I ordered a large and it just didn’t sit the way I wanted it to. So goodbye dress and hello skirt and top!

Luckily, ordering a bigger size was really a good idea because it gave me a lot more room to work with the fabric.

First thing I did was carefully cut around the seem connecting the blouse part tot the skirt to separate them. I then hemmed the bottom of the blouse.

DONE!

Seriously, it was about 5 minutes worth of work.

Here it is with a high waisted skirt:

The skirt had a little more work in it. I made an incision in the waist and shortened the elastic so it was actually the correct size for my waist. I then sewed it back up and hemmed the top.

DONE!

Now I have a much more versatile set that can be worn together or separately like this in a much more flattering way:

Turn-A-Dress-To-A-Skirt95

It’s been great getting to some of the things which have been in my sewing pile for waaaay too long. Hopefully I can do some more serious stash busting soon! I will be doing a lot more sewing from scratch as well so if there’s something you’d all like to see let me know ^_^

How To Store Jewellery

Jewellery is something that I tend to reorganise every couple of months. At the moment I’ve found a storage solution that I really like as it doesn’t take up much space, it cost under $10 and it hold all kinds of jewellery not just small of big things.

My finished shelves:

Daiso-Jewellery-Tree38

It’s made of 2 pink storage trays and a glitter Christmas tree from Daiso.

Daiso-Jewellery-Tree29

I took apart the glitter Christmas tree using a very strong pair of pliers. It was quite difficult to remove the pieces cleanly without getting glitter everywhere.

Daiso-Jewellery-Tree32

In the end I gave up trying to be neat and just did a big clean up afterwards.

Daiso-Jewellery-Tree33

I tend bent the tree with the pliers to make the bottom totally flat and slid it onto the top of the tray.

Daiso-Jewellery-Tree35

Then I used the heart cut outs to hold all of my earrings 😀

Daiso-Jewellery-Tree39

Around the bottom of the tree I keep my rings and the lower levels have space for big items like necklaces and  bracelets.

Nice and easy! Hope you enjoyed!

How To Do A Quiff With A Pouf – Hairstyle Tutorial

Has it really already been another week *_* God this year is going so quickly!

Today’s hairstyle is a classic pouf with a quiffed fringe. This style is great for school because it’s very quick to do and you can pin the bottom hair however you like to meet rules like “hair must be tied back” etc. You can even pull the bottom hair into an updo at the back and make it suitable for work.

how-to-pouf-hairstyle45

Start with clean brushed hair.

how-to-pouf-hairstyle15

Let’s make a basic pouf first. Grab a section of hair at the top.

how-to-pouf-hairstyle20

Backcomb near the bottom of the section while you pull it forwards.

how-to-pouf-hairstyle21

Fold backwards and pin into a pouf shape. If you like you can shape it with your fingers so it’s rounder/higher/whatever then use some hairspray to smooth down any loose pieces.

how-to-pouf-hairstyle34

Now, grab your fringe and brush it upwards. You can leave the side bits down or bring them up too.

how-to-pouf-hairstyle35

Hold it out like this:

how-to-pouf-hairstyle36

Back comb/tease the back of it near the base. I say near the base but you can really just do the whole lot if you can hold it up enough.

how-to-pouf-hairstyle37

Now fold backwards and pin like you did the pouf. This may take a couple of tries to get the shape you want. If you prefer it to be pointy you can twist the end of the hair slightly before you pin it back. If it’s too messy then just lightly brush it in to place to smooth once it’s pinned.

how-to-pouf-hairstyle38

I like this style with a headband.

how-to-pouf-hairstyle39

I also like to curl the bits around my face so it’s all floaty and pretty.

how-to-pouf-hairstyle40

All done! quick and simple 😀

how-to-pouf-hairstyle41how-to-pouf-hairstyle44

This style is great for days when you just can’t seem to get your fringe to sit right!

how-to-pouf-hairstyle43

And you can then style the rest of the hair however you like, I think a nice fishtail on one side is perfect!

How To Make Cute Paper Drink Umbrellas

There are heaps of mini drink umbrella tutorials on Pinterest and it was seeing them constantly popping on my stream that gave my the idea to make some for a picnic we had. All of the tutorial I saw were for plain round umbrellas not for crinkled ones which I prefer. The round ones are quite cute but they are hell to have to pack up to take to a picnic.

So after 10 minutes playing with some pretty paper this was the result:

DIY-Paper-Umbrellas87

You need:

  • Pretty paper
  • Glue
  • Toothpicks
  • A cup
  • A pencil

DIY-Paper-Umbrellas69

Put the cup on the pretty paper and trace around the outside.

DIY-Paper-Umbrellas70

Taadaa circle!

DIY-Paper-Umbrellas73

Cut the circle out.

DIY-Paper-Umbrellas74

Now repeat for however many of these you need.

DIY-Paper-Umbrellas76

Now the folding, this is the tricky-ish part. Fold the circle in half, then again in half another 3 times so it’s just a tiny wedge. When you unfold it the creases won’t be the right way to make the accordion pattern so refold any that don’t fit the pattern: mountain, valley, mountain, valley etc

You should end up with this:

DIY-Paper-Umbrellas79

Poke the toothpick through the center and if you need to, glue it in place with a tiny dot.

DIY-Paper-Umbrellas80

Leave them to dry and then enjoy your umbrellas!

DIY-Paper-Umbrellas88

Perfect for picnics or fancy drinks. The best part is that you can fold them up and stick a rubber band around them to pack them for transport. Cute and practical!

Now I think it’s time to organise another picnic!

How To Do Lady Rainicorn Nail Art – Adventure Time Tutorial

Yay! Today I’ll show you how to do the long awaited Lady Rainicorn nailart 😀

I did these last year for Halloween to go with my Princess Bubblegum costume.

Here is a video tutorial tutorial and there’s a downloadable version at the bottom too!

Adventure-Time-Nail-Art42

Adventure-Time-Nail-Art34

Now this is quite an easy design so long as you can use a nail striping brush. Start by painting a light blue base coat.

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art06

Now starting from a tiny bit above the cuticle on your pinky finger, stripe a red line which goes across all 4 fingers. The line should  arch across the fingers so when they’re spread out it makes a big matching curve.

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art08

Next add a matching yellow stripe above the red one.

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art10

Then a green one.

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art13

And a blue one. Make sure to start each stripe slightly above the cuticle on the pinky so you can later add the legs.

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art14

Then purple.

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art15Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art17

Lastly a pink stripe to top it off.

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art19

Now while all of that dries it’s time to do the head. On your thumb use the pink to paint a big “U” shape and fill it in.

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art22

Under that paint a short stripe of purple.

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art25

Then blue.

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art26

Then green.

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art27

And yellow, curve the yellow around the green a bit so it looks more neck-like.

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art28

Paint two red stripes for legs and do this on the pinky as well.

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art29

Add a little pink to the bottom of the legs.

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art30

Now it’s time for the mane.

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art31

Use a light yellow to create a flowing mane on the index finger and half way through to the middle finger.

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art32

Add the yellow mane to the face and cover up all of the edges of the U shape.

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art33

Add a white triangle for the horn.

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art35

Now it’s time to outline everything. You can use a thin sharpie or a thin paint brush to draw on the black. The sharpie is easy to control but the drawback is that it’s easier to ruin it by getting streak when you apply the top coat.

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art39

The black outlines really make it look cartoony and pop 😀

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art40

This is the time to clean up any mistakes around the edges of your fingers. I like to use a little bit of cotton wrapped around a cuticle stick and dipped in remover to erase them all.

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art42

On the face you want to do a big black circle for the eye too.

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art46

Then dot a white circle over it to complete the look. At this point I decided to go over the black lines again to make them extra dark, if you paint them on you won’t need to. If you’re worried about being able to control black polish like that it can be easier to use acrylic paint. If you make a mistake you can just wipe it off and start again 😉

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art50

Wait until everything is 100% dry and then top coat it very carefully. Try not to drag the brush too much or else you may smudge the design.

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art55

Done!

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art57

Oh. My. Glob. You guise. These nails are like totally fricking awesoooooome.

Adventure-Time-Nail-Art28

Of course… you want to be pretty good with painting with both hands for a design like this. I rushed the second hand so I had Lady Rainicorn on the left and Lady Rainicorn’s derpy sister on the right XD

Adventure-Time-Nail-Art40

Bonus photo, it helps to have a Jake on your side to hold your polishes and try to steal your tissues!

Lady-Rainicorn-Nail-Art60

You’ll look totally lumping fabulous 😉

How To Make A Cute Doorstop – Home Sweet Home

And we’re back after weekend with a mini Home Sweet Home post 😀 Other than the crochet items, most of the things I’ve got left to show are on the small side which makes them great for doing one night after work or while watching TV. Of course, last night I went nuts and completely reorganised my craft area again so I’m sure there will be more projects to come soon that are bigger.

This is a very quick easy way to make a doorstop with absolutely no skill required.

The end result:

Cute-Door-Stop-DIY23

You need:

  • A plastic take away box. Mine came stuffed with extremely expensive candy corn
  • Rice or something heavy to put in it
  • A large piece of fabric

I’m using some green cherry fabric which was a gift from an extremely lovely friend. Perfectly matches my new apartment colour scheme.

Cute-Door-Stop-DIY15

Cute-Door-Stop-DIY12

So fill the container with rice and remove the carry handle.

Cute-Door-Stop-DIY13

You can use whatever you like to go inside but it needs to be reasonable heavy so it will actually hold the door.

Cute-Door-Stop-DIY14

Lay out a large square of fabric which is enough to wrap around the box with lots to spare.

Cute-Door-Stop-DIY17

Place the box in the middle diagonally.

Cute-Door-Stop-DIY18

Fold two corners over and into the middle like this:

Cute-Door-Stop-DIY22

Hold them in place and carefully fold the other two corners up to the middle and tie them into a double knot.

Cute-Door-Stop-DIY21

If it looks a bit messy you can just untie and refold until you’re happy. Ideally you want it to be the exact shape of the box just covered with fabric. If you want you can stitch it in place but it’s not really necessary.

Cute-Door-Stop-DIY23

It looks like a cute little picnic box!
