I’m heading off to Canberra today so by the time you guys read this James and I will probably already be on the plane ^_^ I think this is the hairstyle I’ll be wearing today too!

And here is the video version of the tutorial that I did quite some time ago.

This style requires you to have basic knowledge of how to braid, I’m planning to cover the basics in another upcoming tutorial for those of you who don’t already know.

Start with brushed hair.

over-head-braid-instructions5987

Grab a section at the front of your head starting from just behind the ears.

over-head-braid-instructions5988

Pull it up like this and then tie the rest of the hair out of the way.

over-head-braid-instructions5990

And then flip/brush it over to the side you want the ponytail to end up on.

over-head-braid-instructions5993

Take a very small section of hair just above the ear on one side. Begin the braid using that small section of hair.

over-head-braid-instructions5994

Continue the braid using small loose sections hair hair so it goes over the top of your head from one side to the other. The arrows below indicate the ways the strands of the braid sit on the head. If you want the braid to sit up more and be a bit puffy make sure the sections of hair you use are loose. If you have thinner hair you can use sea salt spray to help give volume.

over-head-braid-instructions5996

When you reach this point stop.

over-head-braid-instructions5997

From the top it will look like this:

over-head-braid-instructions5998

Brush any left over hair up to the top of your head and then tie it all into a ponytail.

over-head-braid-instructions6000

I like my ponytail to sit really vertical so I try to angle the band upwards.

over-head-braid-instructions6001

The pieces of the braids may get messed up while you tie the hair tie so to give it some extra puff you can pull them out a bit once it’s all secure.

over-head-braid-instructions6003

Now just add a pretty accessory like a flower and you’re all good to go!

over-head-braid-instructions6005

From the top:

This style looks good  straight or curled.

How To Do A Quiff With A Pouf – Hairstyle Tutorial

Has it really already been another week *_* God this year is going so quickly!

Today’s hairstyle is a classic pouf with a quiffed fringe. This style is great for school because it’s very quick to do and you can pin the bottom hair however you like to meet rules like “hair must be tied back” etc. You can even pull the bottom hair into an updo at the back and make it suitable for work.

how-to-pouf-hairstyle45

Start with clean brushed hair.

how-to-pouf-hairstyle15

Let’s make a basic pouf first. Grab a section of hair at the top.

how-to-pouf-hairstyle20

Backcomb near the bottom of the section while you pull it forwards.

how-to-pouf-hairstyle21

Fold backwards and pin into a pouf shape. If you like you can shape it with your fingers so it’s rounder/higher/whatever then use some hairspray to smooth down any loose pieces.

how-to-pouf-hairstyle34

Now, grab your fringe and brush it upwards. You can leave the side bits down or bring them up too.

how-to-pouf-hairstyle35

Hold it out like this:

how-to-pouf-hairstyle36

Back comb/tease the back of it near the base. I say near the base but you can really just do the whole lot if you can hold it up enough.

how-to-pouf-hairstyle37

Now fold backwards and pin like you did the pouf. This may take a couple of tries to get the shape you want. If you prefer it to be pointy you can twist the end of the hair slightly before you pin it back. If it’s too messy then just lightly brush it in to place to smooth once it’s pinned.

how-to-pouf-hairstyle38

I like this style with a headband.

how-to-pouf-hairstyle39

I also like to curl the bits around my face so it’s all floaty and pretty.

how-to-pouf-hairstyle40

All done! quick and simple 😀

how-to-pouf-hairstyle41how-to-pouf-hairstyle44

This style is great for days when you just can’t seem to get your fringe to sit right!

how-to-pouf-hairstyle43

And you can then style the rest of the hair however you like, I think a nice fishtail on one side is perfect!

Here is a video of the quiff styling:

How To Do A Plaited Headband With A Pouf Hairstyle Tutorial

Hair tutorial time again 😀 I am pretty happy with how regularly I’ve been able to get these done, the new set up makes me so much more motivated. Now I just need to finalise my video set up with some new lighting and I’ll be set!

Today I’m showing a basic small pouf style with two plaited headbands.

plaited-headband-instructions30

Start with clean brushed hair.

plaited-headband-instructions15

Pull out a small piece of hair from the nape of your neck.

plaited-headband-instructions16

Now plait down the whole length of the hair and tie off.

plaited-headband-instructions17

Repeat with another piece of hair on the other side of your head.

plaited-headband-instructions18

Put those to the side of the moment while we make the pouf.

Pull a large section of hair up from the top of your head.

plaited-headband-instructions20

Pull it forward on an angle and then use your brush to lightly tease/back comb the back of the section.plaited-headband-instructions21

Now fold it backwards gently so the pouf is as high as you like and pin in place. I like to shape it with my hands so it’s nice and round. You can fluff it up with your fingers too. If you don’t like the shape just pull it up and start again.

plaited-headband-instructions22

Now grab one of the little plaits and pull it up and over your head to the other side. It should sit at the part between fringe/bangs and pouf. You can pull the side bits of hair behind the plait for a smooth look or leave them in front for a soft look. Pin the plait on the other side of your head, mine reaches just behind my ear but as long as it goes over half way you should be fine.

plaited-headband-instructions23

Now pull the other plait to the other side. it should cover the end of the first plait. Tuck the end of it under the first plait and pin in place.

plaited-headband-instructions24

If the ends are really obvious then pin a little of your loose hair over the top. Give the whole thing a burst of hairspray.

plaited-headband-instructions26

And that’s it! I like to curl the ends of the loose hair so it’s a very floaty soft look but I think it works really well straight too.

I hope you enjoyed the tutorial 😀

I’m going to continue doing these as regularly as possible so if you have any hairstyle requests please let me know!

Vintage Rolled Vintage Hairstyle Photo Tutorial

vintage-hairstyle-tutorial979

Yay for more hairstyles 😀 This one is a big rolled vintagey style. I did a video on this one quite a while ago which is at the bottom of the post along with the downloadable version!

Let’s get into it, start with brushed hair.

vintage-hairstyle-tutorial947

You will need a hair sausage or something which can be put in the middle of the roll to pad it out. I did a tutorial a while ago on how to make your own sausage so check that out over here.

vintage-hairstyle-tutorial949

Start by brushing your hair backwards leaving a small section on either side of your face.

vintage-hairstyle-tutorial950

Decide roughly where you want the end result to sit on your head.

vintage-hairstyle-tutorial954

Gently hold the hair up like this:

vintage-hairstyle-tutorial953

If you don’t have a hair sausage you can use pretty much anything in that shape. Even a couple of clean socks rolled up will do 😉

Flip the ends of the hair over the sausage like this:

vintage-hairstyle-tutorial955

Gently roll the sausage and hair towards your head.

vintage-hairstyle-tutorial957

And it should end up like this:

vintage-hairstyle-tutorial958

Fluff out the sides so it covers the sausage completely. Pin it in place using bobby pins.

vintage-hairstyle-tutorial963

Now give it a a decent helping of hair spray.

vintage-hairstyle-tutorial964

Next curl the sections of hair you left down at the front.

vintage-hairstyle-tutorial966

You can leave them down like this as a softer version of the look.

vintage-hairstyle-tutorial968

Otherwise you can just fold the hair up so it follows the same curve of the roll and pin in place. It should hide the ends of the sausage completely.

vintage-hairstyle-tutorial970

Now just style your fringe.

vintage-hairstyle-tutorial972

As a finishing touch I like to add a some flowers at the top of the roll or a string of pearls.

vintage-hairstyle-tutorial975

All done!

vintage-hairstyle-tutorial978

This is a great style for summer as it keeps the hair off your neck.

vintage-hairstyle-tutorial980

For those of you who prefer videos here it is! I’ve been having some technical issues with embedding videos so if it doesn’t show up just leave me a comment and I’ll get it up again >_<

How To Do A Mini Bow Hairstyle Photo Tutorial

Omg finally photo hair tutorials!! James has made me a nice new set up to take the photos in so you’ll be seeing lots more of this in the near future!

At the bottom of this post there is a downloadable version and a video in case you get stuck.

So let’s get into it!

How-To-Do-Mini-Bow-Hairstyle41

Start with brushed hair.

How-To-Do-Mini-Bow-Hairstyle14

Grab a small section at the top of your head and brush it up and to one side.

How-To-Do-Mini-Bow-Hairstyle18

Using a hair tie, make a ponytail but leave quite a bit of extra hair tie.

How-To-Do-Mini-Bow-Hairstyle20

Pull the hair through the band again but only pull it a little way so it make a little loop like this:

How-To-Do-Mini-Bow-Hairstyle21

Twist the hair band so it traps the loop in place:

How-To-Do-Mini-Bow-Hairstyle23

Hold the loop in the palm of your hand and pull the loose hair through the hair tie again to form a second loop.

How-To-Do-Mini-Bow-Hairstyle24

You should have something like this:

How-To-Do-Mini-Bow-Hairstyle25

You can see the direction the hair comes through the band in this photo an the way the band wraps around.

How-To-Do-Mini-Bow-Hairstyle27

Now to make it look more like a bow, push it forward and pin in place.

How-To-Do-Mini-Bow-Hairstyle28

You can use the tail of hair to make the middle of the bow and cover the hair band. To do this just pull it backwards and pin there.

How-To-Do-Mini-Bow-Hairstyle31

Like this!

How-To-Do-Mini-Bow-Hairstyle32

I prefer to cover the band with a little flower.

How-To-Do-Mini-Bow-Hairstyle34

This style looks extra cute if you curl the ends so it looks like a ribbon!

How-To-Do-Mini-Bow-Hairstyle39

All done!

How-To-Do-Mini-Bow-Hairstyle40

It’s worth giving it a blast of hairspray to keep in place. If you don’t want to use hairspray or you have thinner hair you can tease the ponytail so it has a better chance of staying in place.

How-To-Do-Mini-Bow-Hairstyle42

Sometimes it’s easier to understand these kinds of things by seeing it in video form so here’s a video too!

I hope guys all enjoyed this tutorial as much as I enjoyed making it! Lots more to come, the new year is making me feel re-energised and creative!

Side Ponytail With A Twist and Pink School OOTD

It feels like I’ve been doing a lot of outfit videos lately but they are so much fun! I feel like you can get a better sense of how an outfit really works in a video.

Today’s is a pink school-ish number. I wore it when James’ parents were visiting. We played pool and I cheated won fairly because of my awesome skill.

An easy hair tutorial too, this one is good for summer and even better if you like braids but can’t work out how to do them around the head! It’s a basic side ponytail but the back is all twisted!
