Today on Violet Vision. Easy hime style hair.
You need bobby pins, teasing comb, hair spray and bow.s
The finished look.
Start by brushing your hair.
Take a once inche section at the front from ear to ear and clip to the side.
Pull up and tease into a gigantic puff.
To tease, drap the comb from the tips to the root of the hair so it scrunches in on itself.
And tease it some more.
Grab the puff in your hand and shape it into a ball by rolling backwards.
Pin it in place at the base.
Spray and smooth over into shape with your hands.
Unclip the front section.
and split it into 3 sections: left, center, right.
Lightly tease it on the back side.
Brush through the front side.
Pin it in place at the base of the puff.
Spray and tease the back.
Brush the front and pull up, back over the puff and across the opposite side.
Pin in place once at the base of the puff and once at the top/back.
Repeat on the other side.
Brush up, spray, tease the back.
Brush the front, lay over the puff and pin to the opposite side.
Spray all over to secure.
Now is a good time for progress photos.
Use curling tongs or a straightener to create loose curls all over the rest of the hair.
This might take a while.
Separate the curls with your fingers and comb near the roots.
Tease the roots to give it volume and less of a perfect feel.
Repeat on the other side.
Fluff out the curls and give everything a spray.
If you need to just add more pins.
And a pretty bow.
Send photos to your friends so they can giggle at your transformation.

As carrying on from yesterdays post on Fashion Addict here is how I styled the blonde one into a hime gyaru wig 😀
The technique I’m using is pretty much the exact same technique for standard hime style hair but because it’s a wig there’s no fear of damage so you can pretty much go nuts. Or if you are happy to brush out lots of tangles this is a perfectly fine way to style your actual hair.
As per usual with these I point out that this is just the way I do it and there are lots of other techniques or methods that you could use. I’m certainly not an expert!
So this is the wig to start with, it’s just a plain old multi-tone blonde wig. The cut is layered and it has a light wave to it. As you can see it has very little volume.
The way the top of the hair is parted is also important, this one has a zigzag pattern. It would be better if it was a straight part of even no part so it’s less obvious when you brush it all backwards. So what we want to do is create a lot of volume at the top and sides to make the big lion’s mane effect. The first step is to grab a section in the middle/top and pull it up. I am using a teasing comb to do this, it’s awesome because it has alternating long and short bristles so it catches all of the short hairs and teases perfectly… which it should being a teasing comb and all.
Back to it, grab a section at the top towards the back of your head. Leave around 2cm of hair between the section you’re taking and where you want the fringe/bangs to start. At the moment we just want to create a lot of volume before we use the front to cover it all up.
Pull forward and tease the back of the section around 3-4 inches from the root. By teasing/backcombing what I’m doing here is combing from the middle back down to the roots. The teasing brush catches all of the shorter hairs and meshes them together into a tangle which gives the piece of hair volume and texture.
Once you’ve teased it a reasonable amount it should have volume all on it’s own, you will of course look like an extra out of a Dr Seuss book at this point.
So that’s the volume part but the front looks terrible so to fix that we need to smooth down the front. Take your comb and using light short strokes brush lightly back over the front section. You may need to hold the wig in place while you do this. Don’t let the bristles of the comb sink into the hair too deeply or you will basically be undo-ing all of the teasing you just did.
Once you have smoothed the front over it should look something like this from the side…
That’s really all there is too it, just a lot of teasing, smoothing and eventually hair spraying. This wig is perfect for styling like this because it has lots of short layers. Clip the section you just styled out of the way, we will come back to it later.
The next step is to give the wig more volume all over so it start to get into the right basic shape: lion’s mane XD
Starting with small sections from the sides, hold the piece of hair out at a 90 degree angle and tease the 3 inches closest to the root.
Repeat this until you’ve done every piece of hair on each side. Don’t touch the front area between the first section we did or the fringe.
Now keep going to the back. Pull the sections upwards and tease at the roots. You can see in this photo the individual tracks of hair and my pink tips showing through XD
Don’t forget to do the underneath sections too, they are very important because they hold the rest of the style up!
Below you can see how much volume is created just by teasing at the roots. Because this wig is more wavy than actually curly I decided to play up the curls by teasing them at the ends slightly too. To do this, you grab the end of a curl by the tip and run the comb from the tip up a couple of inches. Only do this once per curl otherwise you disturb them rather than accentuating them. Basically you’re pushing the curl up the strand of hair so it looks… curlier.
Now it’s time to finish the top section finally! Unclip it and we’ll get to work 😀
At this point it should look something like this…
The final step involves the sections between the top and fringe that we’ve been saving. Taking a small piece of hair from that area at a time, tease the back of it lightly and then sweep it backwards.
At this point hairspray will be your friend. I’m taking a lot of spray. You can see below I’ve started sweeping the front back on the left side but not the right yet.So it’s starting to come together.
Because you are trying to brush pieces of the wig in directions they weren’t designed to go in, doing this will take some trial and error. Getting mine to stay took a whole lot of hairspray and then a lot of teasing and smoothing over the front…. tease, smooth, spray, tease, smooth, spray over and over.
This is starting to look more like the finished product now but not there yet.
Half finished from the back it looks very messy so this area needs to be combed and sprayed as well.
After continuing with the combing and spraying, paying careful attentions to the sides as well as the top this was my finished product:
From the side:
Now looking at the photos I can see areas I intend to improve, for example cutting more layers into the back and using that to creating more defined curls.
You can see below that it definitely needs a few more layers to make the top pouf look more natural with the loose hair below. Until I do that (or if you don’t trust yourself cutting into a wig) this can be temporarily hidden with a big bow.
From the back:
With the addition of some accessories I’m quite happy with the way it turned out considering it was a first attempt. When I make the changes I’m planning I will be sure to post photos of that too 🙂
Bonus photo: Taking off the wig and scaring the hell out of James with by real hair because he was so used to the wig XD
The wig by itself from the front:
The back:
Side:
So there you go, that was my first adventure into wig styling and I’m quite happy with the outcome. Of course there are a lot of areas that I need to improve in and this isn’t the best example of a hime style wig but I can see where I want to go from here and that’s all for another post! I think to style the back and sides I will make James wear it so I can see what I’m doing better hahaha!
Hope you enjoyed my bout of Hime Gyaru wig styling ^_^
There are just some days when dressing up awesomely is out of the question. Lack of time, restrictive dress codes or just a lack of motivation can all be killers but sometimes it’s good to just relax and take a beak from it all. Because I work from home I spend most of my time inside behind a computer with not much contact with the outside world so I live in roomwear a lot of the time! On days when I’m not going out or have client meetings at a ridiculous time in the morning I like to do this style because it takes 2 minutes to do but is still cute and can be jazzed up with the right accessory. Also it’s good for summer because your hair is off your neck!
What you need:
Brush
Hair tie
Cute accessory, I’m using a bow
Bobby pins
Pull your hair up like this with your thumbs
Hold it up and grab the ends:
Here you have two options depending on how round and fluffy you want the end result. You can either roll the ends under so it goes in a big cylander (super fluffy) or fold them under like this:
If you choose to fold it backwards then you can skip the pins altogether and hold it in the hair tie when you make the original ponytail. That doesn’t work for me anymore though because my hair has too many layers so I have to use pins.
Either way hold the ends in place with one hand…
Then pin them in place!
Once it’s secure fluff it all out to the sides and hair spray if you need to. The back should look like a much neater version of this:
From the side:
And the front! Big and loopy and a nice change from a standard bun ^_^
Start by tying up your hair in a high pony tail.
If your accessory is on a hair tie like mine then add it now too, if it’s on a bobby pin you can do it later.

Following on from the previous hair tutorial requests, I was asked to do a more formal updo that was still nice and Summery ^_^
This style doesn’t look good on me personally because of the gradient in my hair but it looks awesome in dark hair because it’s textured enough to show up without looking over the top.
What you need:
Brush
Hair spray
Hair ties
Hair spray or frizz serum
Firstly section your hair in two like this and tie the bottom one into a high pony tail:
Put the top section to the side and clip it for later. Now divide the ponytail into 3 sections as if you were going to plait it. Put two of the sections to the side and then divide the remaining one in half. This style is created by repeatedly tying those two pieces into loose knots then pinning. It gives much more rounded interesting sections than normal plaiting would so it can be good for a change.
The knots you should be using are pretty much square knots or the kind you would use to tie your shoe, an example can be seen here: http://www.folsoms.net/knots/
Start with one like this:
If you do it evenly it should form a pretty pattern. Depending if you want the look to be messy and casual or sleek and complicated you might want to use frizz reduction serum or something similar before you start knotting. Don’t worry about not being able to get them undone later because the pieces of hair you’re using to tie them are so large they should just spring back apart like a plait.
Then keep tying the pieces over and over until you get something like this:
Now pull the section upwards and curve it toward the base of the ponytail. Pin it in place.
Repeat this process with the next section of hair but curve it a bit towards the right of the ponytail when you pin it:
The third section should be curved downwards and pinned at the bottom of the ponytail. After pinning all 3 parts you shouldn’t be able to see the hair tie in the ponytail anymore, it should just look like a big loopy bun:
Finally it’s time to do the top section. This is really what determines the final look so here are two options!
Brushing it to the side tie it in a loose knot about half way down:
Continue knotting from that point.
You have something like this:
Pull it backwards and pin into the main bun:
Add a little flower and you’re done ^_^
You can see how it looks a bit like a big swirl from the back:
Other side:
Front:
Top:
Another option for the top which makes it look a little more prom-ish is to tease/backcomb it a bit, pin it in place then knot the rest and add it into the main bun:
So yes while it doesn’t suit my hair very well it’s a decent style for those with medium length darker hair and can be dressed up or down accordingly ^_^
This is another one of those tutorials that’s been a long time coming. I’m doing my best to get through all the requests now that I have inspiration again XD
So a lot of people asked how to I did this style for the Nuffnang Christmas party…
Well there is a trick… it’s done with 2 types of hair extension ^_^ One of these plain track ones:
And one of these ones which are supposed to go over a pony tail on big clippies:
I bought my extensions from Bodyline and they were very cheap but decent quality. For the two of them I think I paid about $18. By using extensions you can do this style with pretty much any length hair at all ^_^
Also obviously these extensions don’t match my hair colour since I dyed my hair again but hopefully that will make it easier for you to see what is my hair and what is extensions!
What you need:
1 set of hair extensions on clip in tracks (curled)
1 matching clip in ponytail (curled)
Bobby pins
Brush
Hair Spray
Ok starting with clean brushed hair, grab the track extension and fold up the track like this:
Holding it in one hand, use your other hand to grab half of the tips, scrunch it up…
Plonk it on the top of your head like this…
You should have a couple of long curls hanging down the side like this and the rest piled on top in random curls. Pin it in place ^_^
Divide your natural hair in 3 sections, one on each side and one at the back. On the side that has the hanging bit, pull the section of natural hair backwards.
Scrunch it up in your hand loosely and pin it at the back of your head where the top of the extensions meet your scalp…
Pinned it looks all scrunchy like this:
Repeat on the other side…
Pin it down!
Ok time for the clippy part!
On the side that had the hanging curls, hold them up and out of the way for a second. Clip the hair piece right above your ear and into your natural hair…
Let go of the curls so they fall over the top and you end up with something like this…
Now that is much too unbalanced on the side for my tastes and it looks terrible at the back so lets finish up! You should still have a piece hanging down the back of your natural hair. Pull that up…
Scrunch it up…
Pin it in place ^_^
Now let’s cover the back up so it blends in more ^_^ Grab a handfull of the side ponytail her from the top:
Pull it around the back and pin in place over the top of your natural hair. You can chose to leave a couple of strands hanging down or you could pin them up to your head.
Hair spray the hell out of it ^_^
If you need to, fix up the curls with your fingers so they are perfect.
There you have it! You can add some bows or flowers or clippies or something else to decorate it!
From the side…
And the other side!
So there you go! If you practice you can have it all up and finished in about 15 minutes 😀 Hope you enjoyed the tutorial ^_^
Pin curls are one of the easiest most fuss free ways to get curls and they are a personal favorite of mine.
They take very little time to put in and can be styled in many different ways. There have already been a whole lot of tutorials on the subject, Super Kawaii Mama did a great pin curl video here: http://www.superkawaiimama.com.au/hair-parlour/perfect-pin-curls/but after a lot of requests I thought it was about time I did one too ^_^ *edit* I have added a video which includes me taking them out at the bottom too.
What you will need for this particular pin curls tutorial:
Pins
Curl spray or hair spray
Scarf (optional)
Hair ties (optional)
Brush
So start with clean hair and make sure that there are no knots or tangles. Give it a general spray with the curl enhancer, I’m using a Tresemme one which works really well in my hair.
Section your hair in half so it’s easier to work with. I tie the other side off into a pig tail ^_^
Start from the top and grab a small section of hair. The size of the section you take will effect the side of the curl you end up with eg. little section = small corkscrew curls while big section = waves. Keep in mind that it’s better to over curl than do all this work and end up with straight hair! XD If the curls are too tight in the end you can always brush them out looser but re-curling is a pain in the butt!
Spray your section with the curl enhancer:
Starting a little way from the end, twist the hair back on itself to form a loop:
Again the bigger the loops the bigger the curls. You should have this:
Get the end which is sticking out and curve it around the inside of the loop so it stays there.
Start rolling the whole thing up to your scalp…
This is where you want to be in the end:
Take the loop and flattern it on your head. Whether you go towards the front or back will determine whether the curls end up going towards your face or away from it. I chose backwards:
Have a whole lot of pins ready ^_^
Now slide a pin in to the curl attaching it to the hair near the scalp. You might need to use 2 pins if you have a lot of hair.
Repeat this all over your head! Leave no space behind ^_^ You’ll end up with something like this:
The gradient in my hair makes it really easy to see the curls ^_^ This is what it looks like from the side…
Spray the hell out of the whole thing with either more curl enhancer or hair spray… I use both XD
Now you need to decide how long you want to keep them in. My hair doesn’t like holding a curl so I find the easiest way to do it is to sleep with them in. It was odd the first time I did it but now I don’t even notice anymore. I’ve also found that having a hot steamy shower with them in (but not getting them actually wet) before bed helps too. Other girls I know will just leave them in for a few hours during the day if they’re going out at night so it all depends on your hair.
Like most people, the way I keep them all in at night is to use a big scarf ^_^ This is a technique that’s been around for ages and I certainly didn’t come up with it! Again if you want a video version you should check out Super Kawaii Mama’s because it’s very informative.
I fold the scarf into a triangle and place it over my head like this:
Pull the two side corners up and the ones on your forehead down like this:
Tie the side ones in a knot together. Pull the forehead one back towards your hair and tie the side ones in another knot over it.
You get this ^_^ It’s like sleeping on a big cushy pillow!
In the morning when you take it all it will look something like this:
Unless you were going for ringlets it’s probably not looking exactly how you want, so all you need to do is brush it out and add more hair spray and you get this:
Hopefully that helped answer all of the questions I’ve gotten about this, let me know if you have any more! ^_^
*edit* I know a lot of people were wondering how much I brush them out etc so here’s a video that includes what I do the morning after wearing them. Let me know if you have any other questions!
Thanks so much for reading, I hope it was easy enough to follow and good luck with your own pin curls! Let me know how it goes!
