Melbourne Snapshots! Rooftop Cinema
In December we finally got to do something I’d wanted to do for months: Rooftop Cinema!
In December we finally got to do something I’d wanted to do for months: Rooftop Cinema!
Woohoo we’re finally up to the Christmas/Billy Idol Day Snapshots!
This year we went to the Zoo again, it’s become our tradition though I’m not sure if we’ll go again next year because it was much busier and I don’t want it to get old too quickly.
Before we got to the zoo, we had planned to have breakfast at McDonalds but when we arrived it was closed >_< The weather was being really strange that day, it was around 35 Degrees Celcius but storms were also forecast all day so we almost cancelled the trip in case of rain.
As it turned out, the rain started right as we arrived and then stopped until right after we got home. That afternoon/night was one of the biggest storms Melbourne had seen all year, it was pretty crazy!Last year I bought snow leopard ears from the gift shop but this year I had special pretty cat ones which were given to me by Petticoats and Gallantry! You can see the details in a lot of the other photos in this post but they are long white faux fur with light blue lining and little blue bows covered in diamates. I LOVE them. I was worried they wouldn’t stay in my hair the whole day but the metal clips are very strong and I didn’t have to adjust them once. The quality of them is absolutely lovely and I the details are really cute. I’ve always held off buying cat ears because most of the ones you see are really terrible quality but these ones are so well made and detailed that I would definitely recommend checking out some of the other styles available too. They’re not on the Petticoats and Gallantry website at the moment but they are available at the VnV Boutique or just contact for more information etc. When I was at the store they had a whole display of different themed ones, some pink and fluffy and others gothic and dark. All of them looked too cute though! Definitely love them! Anyway back to the other cute fluffy animals 😀 The first stop of the day was the meerkats, they were really shy because of the rain so only one of them came out to say hello. I think the rest had the right idea and were huddled up inside their burrows! The one that was out was quite sleepy looking too, maybe it wasn’t time for them to wake up yet XD There was a lot of “spot the meerkat” going on because of it’s awesome camouflage skills XD The flowers were in bloom all over the zoo and it was so pretty! For once I actually took more photos than James haha! One of the first animals we spotted out and about was this peacock and her babies. The fairy penguins were all bobbing around like bath toys XD We had breakfast at the Meerkat Manor, I had a spinach and ricotta roll which was nice but James’ muffin had rotten berries in it so he replaced it with a chocolate one *_* The rain cleared up after that so it was just spitting a little bit, it was actually nice because the heat alone was horrible. The otter family had a baby! It was adorable but the poor thing had a big bump on its head 🙁 The other otters were really protective of it. We saw the tigers but missed the feeding this time. None of them were very close so I didn’t get a good look. I spent as long as possible in the butterfly house because it made for such pretty photos. The humidity ended up driving us back into the outside heat though XD The butterflies kept landing on James’ head and he didn’t like it at all. He’s actually really scared of moths which I think is adorable! This butterfly seemed to have face planted in the food. OM NOM NOM! The colours of some of them were so pretty and they weren’t shy at all! We did a brief stop at the spiders but only long enough to snap a photo of how icky they were! We found the male peacock wandering around near one of the food areas and he jumped off the top of a building while I was watching. Later on James found one of his feathers on the ground as a present for me 😀 Best souvenir ever! More beautiful flowers… All of the giraffs and zebras were being fed when we came through that area. And for no reason, here’s a zebra butt. At James’ insistance, this year we made it through to the Australian animal exhibit. The Australian part is a walk through area where the animals are partially allowed to roam free. James didn’t like this part because when he was a kid he was at a park and a kangaroo was trying to get to a baby and it’s grandmother and he went over to help and it put it’s arms around him like a hug, but then kicked him in the stomach *_* Australian animals are mean! The laziest kangaroos in the world… An emu which creeped me out by following us along the path. A sleeping wombat who looked a lot more dead than asleep *_* Echidnas which are so freaking cute because they waddle everywhere! And a koala’s back… which contrary to popular belief are not cute or cuddly but are actually mean and very smelly. I might be slightly biased because when I was a kid I went to one of those “hold the koala” things at a zoo and it peed on me. But bias aside they really aren’t very nice animals at all, I’d take those delicious koala chocolate candies over a real one any day! We went to the Great Aviary next which was so peaceful and relaxing. I couldn’t get a good shot of this bird but it totally had the same hair as David Bowie in Labyrinth 😀 It spent the whole time preening itself too! This duck the with a blue beak was being a total jerk, all of the other ones were sleeping and it went to them one by one and woke them up! This one was the weirdest but most intriguing bird I’ve ever seem. It looks so bored… but somehow really awesome! And of course I had tot take a photo of the only pink bird there 😉 We found another meerkat enclosure when we were walking back to the other entrance and this one had much more active animals in it. SO FREAKING CUTE! Before we headed home we also went through the aquarium section. My feet were pretty tired at this point so we sat and watched the seals for 20 minutes to rest. I finally got a good shot of a sea horse too! The seals mostly seemed like they wanted to nap XD The fairy penguins seemed to be planning some kind of coup, they were all taking orders on which way to face from the one up top, it was adorable! We saw some of the big cats but I didn’t get very clear shots through the bars. The lions were so sleepy, I felt the same way in the heat! The snow leopard and all of the other small cats were napping too. I don’t think I got to see the bear last time but he looked so cute and scruffy! The last thing we saw before heading home was the lion’s feeding time, even when they were being fed they were so sleepy! We left a lot earlier than last year because of the heat and came back to the city for some bubble tea. We had planned to get dinner from a fast food place too but almost everything was closed *_* I was really surprised considering how many people were out and about! For dinner we ended up with some Hungry Jacks and 7/11 sandwiches then lots of candy and chips for dessert 😀 It was such an awesome day, I had a wonderful time at the zoo and I can’t wait to think of what we’ll do next year! How did you guys spend your holidays? Did you just chill out with family or did you have something big planned? Any suggestions for what I should do next year? |
Yay it’s Snapshots day! I’m starting to catch up with backlog from December and next week will probably be the Zoo so be prepared for lots of super cute animal shots 😀
A few months ago a new Swarovski store opened in the Bourke St mall and I’ve become a little obsessed with it, every time I go past the shininess attracts me in XD
Following on from yesterday’s Part One post about our trip to Brisbane here’s Part Two! The bonus shots are all up on the Facebook page now so click to have a look if you still want more even after all of these haha!
Clearly Bergamot didn’t mind the bugs in the spa as much as I did 😉
We woke up bright, early and ready to do fun things the next morning. It’s really hard not to wake up early when you’re boyfriend refuses to close the curtains so he can photograph the sunrise >_< This is the furnace that James had so much trouble lighting. To be honest it really wasn’t particularly cold but I think his need to light it was more of a masculine thing >_< This is the chair that just about every one who visited our cabin fell off of! Stupidest design ever, if you even leaned slightly left or right it would over balance on the front leg XD We spent the morning at James’ parents cabin In the end we took a trip to the Maleny Handicraft Markets which were full of interesting and delicious things. James bought some home made jam, I bought a home made pie. YUM. We were excited to see there was a competition but less excited when it was for children under 12. Bergamot made a little friend though, the loveliest lady ever was holding a stall where she made tiny little stuffed animals and she gave me a little rabbit to be friends with Bergamot. I can’t find the photo of it at the moment so I’ll take some more and include them in the next Snapshots. Seriously it’s adorable though. We found this lizard hiding under one of the cars *_* Next we all headed to a French cafe for lunch, I ate a lot of food on this trip 😀 There were beautiful roses everywhere inside and it was actually a flower and garden shop outside too. James’ Dad bought me the prettiest bracelet as a present from the markets! Totally love it and totally love that one of the charms is a sack of money 😀 I think it’s telling me I should get a striped jumpsuit and start robbing banks! I had a camembert and cranberry baguette. LOVE everything about camembert. James’ Dad loved the bowl of coffee because it reminded him of when he lived in France. I couldn’t imagine drinking a bowl of coffee! On the way home James pulled over so he could take pretty panoramas. I was less interesting and took photos of cows… The drive home was quite dangerous because it stormed the whole time but we made it in one piece. So everyone celebrated with fudge and cheese that we bought from a factory up the mountain 😀 A mouse (who I suspect was named James) took a bite out of my camembert >:( Damn James shaped mice. Courtney and James remained classy by giving each other temporary tattoos in the most badass way they could. Then we had a nice big pre-Christmas dinner. Omg seriously I have problems saying no to food. James has problems saying no to key lime pie. This was the pie I bought at the markets! I played my theme song on their piano and failed pretty miserably XD The next day we drove into the city to meet up with a lot of friends and eat even more. We stopped in at my favorite restaurant of all time: Kwan Yin Tea House. It’s still as delicious as I remember it! It’s vegetarian but they have fake meat, so the first time I took James there I was sure he would hate it and I lied and told him it was real meat XD He loved it so much he was all “OMG LET’S COME BACK TOMORROW!”. It was hilarious telling him it was actually all fake! Fake pork with maple syrup, YUM! So much food and so cheap too! They have a photoboard for people who’ve eaten the most food haha, the most any one person has ordered is $64.10 XD I’m even up the back of one of the photos because we had a party there once! This was back when I wore Lolita, I’m in the middle with black hair in white/blue. The lady who owns it is so nice too, when I told her how much I missed the food she gave me the card of her best friend who owns a restaurant in Melbourne to go try! Some Brisbane architecture to break it all up a bit, this is my favorite building in town. We went to my Dad’s house after that where in James and Dad talked about boring camera stuff. I was more interested in his dog Ruby 😀 Typically when I tell him to take a photo with Bergamot this is what I get. A few days earlier James was trying to take a nice portrait of us with a flower and this happened. No idea where I get it from. More Brisbane architecture. I think the old buildings are fewer and far between than Melbourne but they are still nice! Classiest photo of James EVER. We wandered around the city for a while and took in all of the pretty decorations. It was funny how everything had changed but also nothing had really changed in the year and a half we’ve been gone. We then had coffee with the awesome Yolly from Shopping Intervention, some of the other Bris bloggers were going to come too but I think it was a bit late by the time we found a place. After that was dinner at Pancake Manor with Susie and Zac, we had such fond memories of this place but it’s gone really down hill 🙁 It used to be that the service was terrible (like we waited over an hour to have our order taken before walking out once) but the food was great, now the service has improved (they asked about our meal like 5 times) but the food sucked >_< Zac and James unintentionally dressed to match 😀 Too cute! We bought cotton candy from a vending machine while it played the song “I want Candy”. Best $2 I ever spent 😀 Then we got to visit Susie’s new place and see her creepy light fixture of evilness. Cutest couple ever. On the last day I continued my long running feud with Karl the Magpie at James’ parents house. He tried to swoop me but went straight into the window. Karl and I have a long history. What a jerk. Damn you Karl! We went to a business meeting and the lady had her adorable puppy wandering around! He looked just like the puppy I had as a child! Then we decided to drive for several hours (literally) to another Big Chief Burger so James could get his special burger XD He didn’t notice until after ordering but they have a special challenger burger, next time this wall will be ours! This is what a completely contented man looks like: I don’t even remember taking this but… cute puppy! I got to stop by Vanity Box’s retail store too and drool over all of the make up! After that it was a mad rush to the airport, some cheesecake with James parents and we were on the flight home! It was a really lovely trip and I can’t believe how many awesome photos came out of it. Looking back on them has been really fun! Have you guys been on any trips lately? I know I have to go back to Brisbane again soon but I really want to travel more internationally rather than domestically this year 😀 |
I took a lot of photos when we went to Brisbane in December… I really mean A LOT. Like when I took out all the crap ones I still had 300+ that I liked and wanted to post *_* I cut it down again to around 175 so I’m going to split it up into two posts this weekend and just tell you about the funniest and most interesting parts! The rest of them (mostly just pretty stuff) will be uploaded to my Facebook page tomorrow if you want to go see what else we got up to!
So let’s get into it before I feel like adding even more photos haha!
I had delicious fudge for breakfast the day we left. I’m sure fudge is a food group right?
Today is another edition of Snapshots!
This post is extra special because my awesome friend Glo-w and her husband Ben came to visit all the way from Malaysia!
How pretty is she?
