So all you needed to do to enter is show what your Perfect Vintage Christmas would look like. Btw, how cute is the little banner she made for the comp below?
So because I’ve been a bit obsessed with my video camera lately I decided to make a video…
So I guess what I was trying to say is that my Perfect Vintage Christmas takes a lesson from the cliche 50’s and 60’s values as well as style ^_^
Hey everyone! This is the second part of my Nuffnang Blog Awards competition entry. This one is all about Singapore!
So why do I deserve to go to Singapore? Well I don’t know if I deserve to go above all of the other entries as there have been some really awesome ones but I would really like to go! I’d love to actually get out of the house and meet some fellow bloggers in person for a change ^_^ The most important reason I would like to go is experiencing another culture! Singapore is completely different to Australia and I’d love to be able to meet new and interesting people. The second part of this post is all about my perfect day in Singapore!
When you’re traveling you should always take comfortable shoes with you as you never know how much walking (or shopping!) you’re going to have to do. I find it really difficult to find comfortable shoes that are also really cute 🙁
So I made my own! I bought a cheap set of white runners from Big W for $25 and added glitter, pearls, diamantes and bows 😀
I’m always doing photo posts on my blog so I thought I’d do something a little different this time so you can see things from the perspective of my new shoes ^_^
I like to look nice as much of the time as possible. So even when I’m flying I wear nice comfortable clothes. On my day in Singapore I’ll arrive at the airport looking cute as ever 😉
The first thing I’ll do after I arrive is meet up with all the awesome friends I’ve made through blogging! Traveling is so much more fun with friends ^_^ That’s James on the far right in the stylish wing tips I’m totally going to buy him. Next I want to take a ride on the famous “Ducks”. They look so cute! And I’ve heard that the guides are very charismatic and informative ^_^ I’ll probably have to run to catch it because I got side tracked with all my friends!
Then it’s… SHOPPING TIME! Yaaay! Ah you all know how much I love shopping, I am a champion bargain finder! I am so looking forward to spending time on Orchard Road. Shops get ready for me!
There are many Lolita shops in Singapore too so I would love to visit one or two and pick up some new dresses or accessories! It would be lovely to actually be go into the shops and feel the fabric of the clothes I want rather than having to order online. *sigh* I’m dreaming about feeling all of that beautiful lace (other Lolitas will get this).
I want to see as much of the city as possible but I want to see the parks and other areas as well. I would try to get as diverse snap shot of Singapore as I could in 1 day! Ad with my awesome shoes I could do all the walking I wanted without feeling the horrible ouch of high heels ^_^
When I have finished my tour around the town and seen all I could see I would definitely head back to the hotel for a little “me time”. I always try to schedule a couple of hours where I can just relax on holidays otherwise I would run out of energy! My favorite is relaxing by a pool with a nice cold drink…
And to top off my fantastic day? Well I couldn’t really ask for more than that but I would love to go to the Nuffnang Awards! I would probably change my shoes at this point though!
For those who haven’t heard of the competition it’s basically to show how fun Pringles are and you have to use the word “Krrunch” in place of the word “fun”.
Anyway this is my entry, I hope you enjoy it!
Today has been a very boring day 🙁
There is absolutely nothing to do. It’s my day off so there’s not even any work to keep me occupied.
There is nothing going on online either *_* No new emails, slow Twitter day and no comments to reply to! Luckily my savior arrives! James is home and behold he’s brought lots of yummy Pringles 😀
Yaaaay! Maybe today won’t be so boring after all! Maybe it will be a Krrunch day! After just one chip something amazing starts to happen…. I am transformed from plain old boring Violet to……………..
SUPER AMAZING KRRUNCH PRINCESS GIRL VIOLET! Gone are the boring pajamas and pig tails, replaced with a hime style ensemble! I’m ready to rid the world of bad style every where, look out people with bad fashion sense, IT’S KRRUNCH TIME!
Hmm now that you mention it, this outfit looks a little bit plain doesn’t it? I wonder how I could jazz it up a bit? Hmm maybe Pringles will come to my rescue again!
Now what do I need? I’ll separate the cardboard from the coloured front and go from there. Now I can gather up some other craft supplies life felt, glue and the staple of a Princess’ closet: lace! I’ve got lots of ideas what to do but I’m going to start with 3 to begin with. Here is what I’m going to start with…
I cut a bigger circle out of the Pringles box to make the base of idea #1 and taped them together. I added some glue to make sure it would stick and left to dry. Idea #2 sees me cut a small tube cover the outside with some squishy batting. Now time to decorate idea #2, I got some nice ribbon and started wrapping it around the tube. Here’s what it looked like when that stage was finished…Then I covered Idea #2 in pink felt to match my dress! I added some pretty decorations to cover all the yucky edges and left it to dry again. Can you guess what it is yet? While idea #1 and #2 are drying let’s get started on making some decorations for them! Remember when I stripped off the wrapping from the Pringles can? Well I’m going to make some roses with it. First cut it into strips varying in width depending on how big you want the finished rose to be. Then fold them in half so the red is on the outside. Start at the end and fold it backwards on an angle. This is actually how you make ribbon roses but it works the same with paper. Start curling it around. Fold the long edge backwards again and keep rolling, continue doing this over and over again. It’s starting to look like a rose! Keep going until you reach the end of the paper and glue the end out of the way. Taadaa! Repeat and make a bunch of them to decorate everything with 😀 Did you guess what Idea #1 was? It’s a mini top hat! Now add some roses and ribbons to make it even prettier.
And Idea #2? It’s a bangle! Add some roses to that too, everything looks better with roses! Now those ones are finished, time to move on to Idea #3! I cut a Pringles can to this shape: Next I glued the lids on both sides and covered it in felt and lace. I added a ribbon handle and used one of the roses I made as the closing mechanism. So Pringles inspired me to make all of these adorable pieces! Now to model them all! Cute right? Not bad for a couple of Pringles cans and lace! Thanks Pringles, you sure made my day Krrunch in the end ^_^
This outfit looks pretty good now? I am ready for a night out on the town! (Preferably in Singapore *hint hint*)And a close up to end it all nicely ^_^ SUPER AMAZING KRRUNCH PRINCESS GIRL VIOLET TRIUMPHS AGAINST A PLAIN BORING OUTFIT!What do you guys think, am I in with a chance? It’s Krrunch time, get playful! Cross my fingers that Nuffnang will like it too ^_^
Hey everyone! How are you all doing? I have lots to report today, the biggest part of this post is going to be the hair tutorial that I’ve finally finished but other things first…
We’re doing this style today:
But first… remember the post I made about the Nuffnang Coles/Myer gift card competition? Well I won! I couldn’t believe it, I never win anything so this is awesome! They are sending out my $100 gift voucher so I’ll be sure to let you all know how I spend it ^_^
Don’t forget that Nuffnang is also holding the first annual blogger awards so if you enjoy reading what I write feel free to nominate me ^_^ and cross all your fingers and toes for me! I want to go to Singapore!
Next in the news is the guest blog post I did over at Lisa’s blog. I did a summer themed mani with fimo fruit so click the picture below for the full story 🙂
One more piece of news before I get stared on the hair tutorial! This is directly related to the tutorial though, on the weekend I used 1000hour eyelash glue and had a terrible allergic reaction to it. My eyes swelled shut and so I’ve had to photoshop some of these photos to not look completely ridiculous, the photos also saved really low quality due to a glitch in the camera so bleh. I’m going to be writing a review on the lash glue later this week and let’s just say it’s not exactly glowing but I’m waiting to hear back from their customer service department about treatments.
Without further ado, onto the tutorial!
This tutorial is for how to create this hairstyle. I’ve heard this called several different names (double french twists, 60’s rolls etc) but I think the name “Kitty rolls” is cutest because it reminds me of Kitty from “That 70’s Show”! This is a great style for when your hair is a bit dirty or you’re rushed for time.
You will need: -Hair spray (I’m going to review this brand later this week too)
-Bobby pins and a brush – An alice band (optional) First brush out your hair backwards so there is no part.
-Lightly spray the top and sides of your hair. This is just to give it some texture and get the bobby pins to hold. Now you should seperate a section on each side of your head. Imagine drawing an invisible line from each ear and pulling everything in front of the line forward.
Put these two parts to the front and sit the alice band behind them. This is so when we twist everything together you can hide the ends of the alice band. See the placement? Now get some bobby pins ready. It’s good to have them on hand so you don’t have to drop any hair bits to find them. I have a bad habit of opening them with my mouth XD
Start on one side and brush out one of the front sections.
Twist this section backwards.
And then place it (not too tightly) backwards and behind the alice band. This photo has been censored for my frilly peace of mind! It was a seriously bad allergic reaction! Ok now pin it in place. The best way to do this is to open the pin, grab the edge of the twirl and the push the pin into the rest of the hair with it’s open edges towards your face. This is a very sturdy way of securing the hair. Here is a video:
Haha you can here James saying “like so” at the end XD Anyway it should look like this:
Now grab another section of hair a bit bigger than the last.
Pull it upwards and twist it around the last section of hair.
Pin it in place It looks like this: Keep going grabbing sections of hair and twisting them until you reach the middle of the back of your head. Now do the same to the other side! Exactly the same process on the other side until you reach the middle. It should look like this:
And from the side: Now the back part is a little tricky so I’ve got another short video down lower. Grab all the loose hair and carefully brush it out. Spray some hairspray on it to give it some more hold.
Get those pins ready again! Ok with the hair between you fingers, roll it up. Depending on your hair length you might need to roll it over twice.
Hold it there and pin through the holes on each side until it’s secure.
Here is a video:
Ok so you’ve got the back part now it should look like this: See that weird hole in the back, let’s get rid of it!
Here is how it looks from the back, basically just keep adding pins until you’re happy with the shape. The easiest way to do this is to use a second mirror to see exactly how it looks.
Time to decorate now! Get any clips or pins you want to put in the back. The good thing about hime gyaru fashion is that you can cover any mistakes with extra bows or flowers ^_^ Don’t forget to give it a good spray, you don’t want bits coming down during the day/night.
I added two flower pins and a big rose barrette thingy that I made the other day.
And from the side: Finish doing your make up, add a bunch of accessories and you’re ready to go! Taadaa!
Well I hope you enjoyed the tutorial, once you get the hang of doing the twisting it only takes about 5 minutes. I’ve even managed on a train on the way to a job interview once XD
I’ve decided to make this week’s blog posts all about hair and beauty so expect more of this!
Lastly I’ve been considering making full videos for posts like this, would it be easier to tell what is going on in a video? Would you guys be interested in watching videos I make or prefer I just shut up and blog?
This is the story of how I made a Hime Gyaru style dress for $10.
Ok ok ok ok ok ok so you were all waiting on the edge of your seats for this post right? I’ve received a surprising number of messages from you all desperate to know what I did… well here it is!
In my previous post I mentioned this competition at my advertising company Nuffnang (who rock). The general jist of the competition is that they sent us all a $10 Coles Myer Gift voucher and the blogger who spends it in the most creative or frugal way wins a voucher for $100.
Here is the story of what I did…
One night I was busy dreaming about how much I love clothes that make me feel like a princess. I love Hime Gyaru fashion and most of all I love Jesus Diamante clothing… but it’s notoriously expensive ;_; Dresses can cost as much as $1000 which a poor little graphic designer like me just can’t afford…
But as I awoke I came up with a brilliant idea!
So I put on my favorite outfit and headed off to the shops with James to use my $10 voucher on what I needed….
I went everywhere looking for what I wanted. I visited Kmart and Target but there was nothing in my price range *_* I consoled myself with yummy pancakes filled with caramel… But alas I couldn’t find it… so after a long day shopping we went home for a nap. I was very disheartened but James convinced me to try again and visit Coles later that night… also we didn’t have any food in the house and needed to find something for dinner but that’s beside the point!
Lo and behold I got exactly what I needed! I bet you’re all about to burst from holding your breath about what I bought… TAADAAA!!
2 pink flannelet pillow cases and 1 cream scarf. Wait not what you expected? Well keep reading!
And it even came to $9.98 so I have 2 more cents to spend at Coles XD
Now let’s get to work… I took everything up to my sewing room and unpicked all of the seams in the pillow cases. Now I have 2 large pieces of pink fabric and 1 cream scarf.
I made up a pattern and cut up the pieces. I made sure to keep all of the scraps in case I need them later. I gathered and sewed the skirt piece onto the cream belt and pink bodice, I overlocked each seam to make it cleaner and more hard wearing.
Then I found a piece of lace and finished the bottom seams. I gathered the top of the bodice to make a sweetheart neckline. lt=”” id=”BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5373387288188375186″ border=”0″ />Next I added some darts to the bust area to it fit nice and snugly. After that I added two small straps to hold it up. These were made from the scraps of pillow case.
I have been in love with all of the 50’s inspired boat neck dresses Jesus Diamante have been coming out with lately so I made my own interpretation with the remaining pieces of the scarf…
I used the fringe ends of the scarf and a scrap of pillow case to make a little pin as an accessory… And TAADAA! I turned $9.98 worth of pillow cases and scarf into a dress!
I bet you all want to see what it looks like on right? It sure isn’t “One Size Fits All” anymore!
Add some beautiful accessories and you’ve got a pretty Hime style summer dress!
I wore it to James’ family lunch yesterday and it was a big hit! I got many compliments even before they all knew what it was made from ^_^
We took all the chairs and tables outside in their garden to have a delicious feast! Very French and perfect for summer. The garden was the perfect backdrop for some photos, everything was so green!
James keeps his classic 1963 Valiant Regal car at his parent’s house because there is no room for it in our place! I’ll post some proper photos of it another day because it’s really pretty, but the star of today’s post is my dress!
Before lunch was ready James and I played around in the garden and took some photos, there were lots of gross bugs everywhere! You can’t really tell in this photo but I’m standing on a stump which is very unstable! Don’t get the dress dirty it’s so expensive I might not be about to afford to replace it!!! 😉
I decided that this was the perfect garden party dress! I have to say I’m very happy with how it turned out 😀
Say hello to everyone guys! This was desert and boy was it yummy!
And so that is the story of how I turned $10 at Coles into some pillow cases and a scarf and then into a cute dress ^_^
What do you think? Pretty close but with my own spin? For the record I know that brand replica’s are illegal and morally wrong, this is merely my own spin on the fashions that inspire me!
Jesus Diamante (Probably around$700) and me ($9.98)
Nuffnang! Please give me the $100 voucher and fill up the rest of my wardrobe!
