Billy Idol Day Feast Snapshots

Snapshots time! For Billy Idol Day, James decided to cook a massive feast. It was so huge it had to come out in courses because it didn’t all fit on the table. Like he bought a turkey that weighed more than Lottie. Seriously. We ate turkey for so long after that it was ridiculous.

Any way I promised to explain the concept behind Billy Idol Day in the simplest way possible so here it is…

I don’t like big holiday celebrations, James was used to having big holiday celebrations… we compromised by agreeing to celebrate something we were both totally into: Billy Idol. Because he rocks. Also he did the most awesomely terrible Christmas album, complete with hilariously awesomely terrible music videos. And it kind of grew on it’s own from there. We did it a little bit bigger each year and now Billy Idol Day is our own little family tradition.

Hopefully that answers that!

We bought our first real tree this year, his name is Billy… or William if you want to be more formal.

Of course I had to find him appropriate sized lights.

I used some really cheap crappy washi tape to make some wall decorations! I’m excited by this because now I can do things on this wall without worrying about the paint!

We saw some cute decorations this year…

And some really disturbing ones…

Ate a lot of chocolate…

Got our tree topper printed.

And we even got to see Chrissy and Charles (though this was a little after Billy Idol Day!

Lottie was highly excited to get her present…

Billy-Idol-Day-Snapshots50854

I put fairy lights everywhere this year 😀

Billy-Idol-Day-Snapshots50769

Then it was down to cooking… or rather it was down to James making the turkey do some kind of inappropriate dance >_>

Billy-Idol-Day-Snapshots50867

We had recently been to Vue De Monde with Celina so we decided to continue the experience by calling our restaurant Vue De Quartier or “View of the neighbours” according to google translate XD

Billy-Idol-Day-Snapshots70329

We spent most of the day cooking.

And then it was time for the EATING!

Billy-Idol-Day-Snapshots50877

Oh my god the fooood.

Billy-Idol-Day-Snapshots50880

James invented themed cocktails with candy canes.

Billy-Idol-Day-Snapshots50882

The candy canes melted a bit because of the heat but still yummy!

Billy-Idol-Day-Snapshots50887

And the turkey!

Billy-Idol-Day-Snapshots50891

This was James’ first time cooking a whole turkey and it was sooo good.

He got a bit drunk from the power.

I’m not really sure what’s happening n this photo but I’m assuming that there was some kind of bitchy retorting going on XD

James enjoyed his new present: a fan with a spray bottle attached.

And that was our Billy Idol day this year! It was exhausting but so much fun. We ate wayyy too much food and it was delicious. Boxing Day was spent mostly in a food coma!

Now I need to go sit on a bag of ice because the heat wave we’re having at the moment is absolute murder without air conditioning! ;_;

How To Tie A Silk Scarf Into A Rose

Quite some time ago I posted  about this silk scarf that I had made to wear as a rose on my bag. A lot of the comments asked how to tie it in the rose shape so here we go!

How-To-Tie-A-Scarf-Into-A-Rose350

First, you need to actually tie it around something, when I’m putting it on my bag I use the handle but in this tutorial I’m using a lamp because it was the right height. You could also do this using your hair as the part to tie it to or anything really.

So start by grabbing one corner of the scarf.

How-To-Tie-A-Scarf-Into-A-Rose352

Tie it in a knot around your item leaving the corner hanging out to form a leaf. This will be tied one more time at the end so make the leaf a little longer than you want the end result to be.

Take the rest of the scarf and twist it fairly tightly.

Wrap it around the centre knot to form a spiral.

When you have wrapped most of it and only have a little left, tie the end in a knot with the first leaf you made so it forms the second leaf.

All done!

But how does this work on a scarf which wasn’t specifically designed to be the colours of a flower?

How-To-Tie-A-Scarf-Into-A-Rose338

Again start with the corner.

Tie in a knot around the bag handle/hair/whatever

Twist the end.

How-To-Tie-A-Scarf-Into-A-Rose341

Twist into a spiral to form the rose. This scarf was huge so I had to twist it tightly in the middle and a little looser to make a nice rose.

Looser towards the ends.

And knot the ends together so it stays in place.

Rose done! It still looks really cute! This style works the best with scarves that are one colour along the edges and one in the middle as it forms the leaves better but plain or patterned silk scarves still looks great.

There you have it! You could also use this to decorate gifts, for example if you are giving someone a bottle of something you could tie a scarf to the neck and now it’s two gifts in one!

Let me know if you give it a try and what you wear it on!

Happy New Year, Long Time No See!

P1050282

So I’ve been on a bit of an unplanned extended break. It was due to a combination of unexpected real life events, which meant I just couldn’t keep up with things online 🙁

But new year, new start and even though I don’t generally do resolutions I’ve been working really hard in the first two weeks of this year to make sure I have a whole lot of fun tutorials built up so that if something like this happens again it won’t matter so much. I think if I work extra hard now I’ll be able to have a bit more control over my life which would be awesome!

The schedule I’m working to this year is going to be a little different too, I’m still working to get videos filmed and edited but my aim is to have a weekly plan of:

Monday: Blog post tutorial
Tuesday: Video quick tip
Wednesday: Blog post tutorial
Thursday: Video tutorial
Friday: Blog post tutorial
Saturday: Blog post snapshots
Sunday: Run down of the week’s vlogs

The blog posts are starting again on this schedule starting today and my aim is to build up some videos to start posting them by the beginning of February.

So that’s about it, just wanted to say thank you so much for an amazing 2013, 2014 is going to totally kick it’s butt with awesomeness!!
