How To Make Hime Gyaru Shoes – Bodyline

Bodyline Shoes Modification time!

Bodyline Shoe Tutorial 1

I made them from these:

Bodyline Review 2

Well as promised this the guide to how I turned these cheap Bodyline shoes into this:

Bodyline Shoe Tutorial 1

When I got these shoes I decided that I wanted to make 1 dressy pair and one more casual pair. This is the casual pair and they were inspired by the standard big fluffy shoes that have been a staple of Hime fashion forever and my current obsession of Eva Gabor in Green Acres.

What you need:

  • Base shoes
  • Faux fur
  • Needle and thread
  • Hot glue gun
  • Ribbons, roses, or whatever decoration you like
  • String of pearls (optional)

So let’s get started!

First thing I did was unpick the bows from the front of the shoes.

I then played around with materials I had to decide exactly what layout I wanted. I happened to have these ribbon rosettes that I pulled off a hair band. You could use anything as an accent like this though or you could easily make your own version with some roses, ribbon and a couple of diamantes.

Laying things out before you get all crazy with the glue is really important because once it’s stuck, it’s stuck!

Bodyline Shoe Tutorial 1

So next step. I carefully cut out a rectangle of faux fur which was wide enough to cover the band of the shoe. I left a good couple of inches on the top and bottom so there was enough to wrap around the whole thing.

Bodyline Shoe Tutorial 1

Now starting on one side I put down a line of glue around the very edge of the strap and pressed the fabric on to it.

Bodyline Shoe Tutorial 1

The glue is kind of just like a guide to stop the fabric from sliding around while you’re stitching it. Should look like this:

Bodyline Shoe Tutorial 1

Applying a bit of glue over the whole band I wrapped the fabric around to the other side and trimmed all of the extra.

Bodyline Shoe Tutorial 1

Now it’s needle and thread time! If you want the shoes to be hard wearing you will need to stitch around the edges of the fabric to prevent it fraying in the future. After that fold the top and bottom edges into the inside of the shoe and stitch them together. You should have enough so you are stitching the fur to the other side of the fur (like a big tube) rather than stitching it directly to the shoe. You can sew to the shoe if you want but making it a tube will make it easy to remove should you ever want to change your mind.

Bodyline Shoe Tutorial 1

Once you’ve stitched everything in place it’s time to decorate. I decided to sew on these little rosette things. I think these shoes would be even better if they had a nice string of pearls hanging from the front but I don’t have any left at the moment so that will have to be a modification for another day!

Bodyline Shoe Tutorial 1

And that’s it. It really is a simple modification ^_^

Bodyline Shoe Tutorial 1

I’m ready for my close up with Eva now daaaarlingk! 😉

Bodyline Shoe Tutorial 1

Tomorrow I will show you what I did with the pink pair, it’s much more dressy and a bit more impressive ^_^

Glad to be back in business and I hope you all enjoyed the post! If you decide to modify some Bodyline shoes let me know!

Melbourne Snapshots and News!

This post was sponsored by Nuffnang and Panasonic.

For more information on sponsored posts please click here.

So I know I did a Snapshots post just recently buuuuut I have so much news to put in this that I couldn’t wait!

Firstly congratulations to Vintage Grrl! She is the winner of the Nuffnang chocolate competition 😀

This is her winning entry:

Chocolate doesn’t judge, it never asks questions, never wears the same outfit as you and doesn’t keep you waiting.  Chocolate is comforting, sweet and always lets you talk it out with no interruptions.  Chocolate is the perfect best friend, especially when you’re in no condition to be around actual people.

Thank you so much for everyone who entered and good luck for next time!

Secondly!

I’ve been working pretty hard the last few weeks and I wanted to share a little more of what I’ve been up to!I am now stocking vintage style hair flowers in local vintage store Circa Vintage. You can see a selection below, do go in store to check them out! I’m hoping to have time to get some photos of the store and everything to show you guys soon so here’s a sneak peak…

Snapshots!

Speaking of local stores… I’ve also started stocking my nails in local alternative store Visage n Viceboutique. I’ve made special sets just for them as well as a couple of old favorites. If you want to see the nails in person just drop in and say hi to the friendly girls there!

Snapshots!

I’m talking to another couple of stores at the moment so hopefully you will be able to buy my nails in more retail outlets around the place. If you own a store and would like to stock my nails please don’t hesitate to drop me a line ^_^

Thirdly…

I am trying to get back to being able to blog more often and be a good blogger again. At the moment I feel like I’m working 3 full time jobs… working as a designer, working as a blogger (seriously it takes so many more hours than people seem to think) and then working on the book for every waking second I get spare. The problem with all of that is that all 3 of them suffer when I can’t give my full attention to anything.

I’ve been thinking about it all a lot lately and the deadlines I was working with for the book would not allow me to bring your something I was really proud of. So I’ve re-worked everything to make things a little more fair for everyone (including my sanity). What this means is that while yes it will take longer to get the book out and available for publishing… everything will be perfect to the last detail in it and you guys won’t have to deal with me being a delinquent blogger as much XD This will give me more time to actually have craft days (which I’ve really missed!) and then actually post tutorials again!

In the short term what this means is:

Tomorrow I will be posting up the tutorial on modification of those Bodyline shoes so look forward to it ^_^

Lastly…

I found a bunch of photos I forgot I’d taken 😀

Let’s start with some architecture 😀 I don’t think the photo of this one really does it justice I couldn’t get an angle that wasn’t covered in trees!

Snapshots!

There was some kind of big sale on in the meat area of the Victoria Markets, James was swallowed by the crowd trying to get what we needed for dinner!

Snapshots!

These seagulls were hovering around the sea food section and looked on like they were ready to swoop. Damn sea gulls, they creep me out for some reason.

Snapshots!

A while ago we went out for dinner with Celesteand Kev at a place called Ramen Ya. It’s supposed to be one of the best in Melbourne.

Snapshots!

They do ramen and bento. Everywhere here in Melbourne seems to do bento which is awesome!

Snapshots!

My miso base ramen was quite yummy but not the best I’ve ever had.

Snapshots!

James had the curry bento and he really liked it! It was quite busy but not ridiculous. Verdict: I would probably go again if I happened to be near by and craving ramen but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it.

Snapshots!

I thought I should do the typical tourist thing and show my international readers one of Melbourne’s famous graffiti alley ways. This is the emptiest I’ve seen it, normally it’s full of tourists snapping away ^_^

Snapshots!

This was my favorite piece there, how cute are the little waves!

Snapshots!

I received some lovely packages this week too! The lovely Glowwas kind enough to send James and I some housewarming presents and a beautiful note!

Snapshots!

They are cute door hangers! Our house doesn’t have door knobs so she told me to use my imagination with them 😀 I can’t wait to add them to something fun I’m doing with the windows! Photos soon!

Thanks Glow!!

Snapshots!

I also received a very full package from Angel of Modern Vintage Girl. Angel mentioned a while ago that she was sending me a dress and I was really surprised when all of this turned up too!

Snapshots!

Plus this cute orange dress and pink bow belt! She writes all about vintage fashion in Israel and she runs an etsy store with the cutest vintage clothes here. That’s where I got that super sweet white felt hat of mine too! Silly face is silly and has therefore been censored.

Snapshots!

Let’s see what else this week? I have to say thank you to all my lovely Twitter friends this week who were nice enough to help me with recipes for scallops! My first time cooking them and I was surprised and pleased at the results 😀

Snapshots!

All around the Cbd there are pretty horse drawn carriages. I saw the horses being packed up to go home the other day. Their plated manes remind me of the “My Little Pony’s” I had as a kid XD

Snapshots!

Celeste, Kev, James and I went to a farmer’s market too! When they said farmers market I was expecting pretty my a regular market with more fresh product because that’s what the ones I’ve visited in Brisbane have been like… turns out it was actually on a communal farm!

There were a bunch of kids playing in these barrels. Free range children mwahahaha!

Snapshots!

There were gigantic fluffy chickens!

Snapshots!

And smelly piggies:

Snapshots!

And a strangely flexible and apparently itchy goat that we dubbed “Yoga Goat”…

Snapshots!

That’s all for today so I’ll leave you with one last image that had me laughing so hard! For those overseas Moxie is a brand of overly cutely packaged… feminine products. This is apparently their new advertising campaign MWAHAHAHA!

Snapshots!

So how was your weekend?

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Another nail polish swatching adventure today! If you read nail polish blogs you’ve probably seen the new Eyeko polishes everywhere. I figured this was as good a time as any to review and show you all of the Eyeko polishes in my collection.

Mostly I just wanted a little down time and swatching polishes is nice and relaxing!

Brand: Eyeko

From: Their website

Price: £8.50 per polish *EDIT* Sorry everyone! I miss-read the website, it’s actually £8.50 for a set of 3 or £3.50 each. My bad! */EDIT*

Volume: 8.5ml

Ingredients: Ethyl acetate, Butyl acetate, Nitrocellulose, Adipic acid/neopentyl glycol/trimellitic anhydride copolymer, Isopropyl alcohol, Propyl acetate, Triphenyl phosphate, Trimethyl pentanyl diisobutyrate, n-Butyl alcohol, Stearalkonium hectorite, Diacetone alcohol, Dimethicone, Citric acid, Benzophenone-1. May Contain: CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 15850 (D&C Red No.6), CI 77499, CI 77491 (Iron Oxides), CI 77510 (Ferric Ferrocyanide), CI 77000(Aluminum Powder), CI 19140 (FD&C Yellow No.5), Calcium Aluminum , Borosilicate, Silica, Polyethylene terephthalate.

Bottle: Tall round thin bottles. Look good but not as easy to store as square bottles.

Brush: Average size, flexible.

Drying Time: Roughly the same for all of them. Not ridiculously long but nothing to write home about.

Colour Name: Chi Chi

Description: Pink glitter in a milky pink base.

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Thoughts: Quite an interesting pink the milky base is very sheer but after 3 coats it’s nearly opaque from the weight of the glitter. I think this is probably my favorite of the bunch.

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Good for: -Layering -Small accents eg. French tips etc

Bad for: -Being Opaque

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Colour Name: Saucy

Description: Red with an orangey base.

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Thoughts: Fairly standard bright red. Pretty, shiny and opaque in 1 coat.

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Good for: -Bright fun summery manicures -Good red for vintage-ish mani’s too -Very opaque so possibly good for Konading

Bad for: -Anything you don’t want to be completely in your face with colour

Excuse the stripe in the photo below, I managed to get a hair on it while drying >_<

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Colour Name: Punk

Description: Neon pink.

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Thoughts: This was an odd one for me, I’m not sure if it was just the bottle I got but it’s a slightly different colour than I was expecting. Very very matte, no shine to it at all.

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Good for: -Insanely bright mani’s -Probably good for Konad as it’s very opaque

Bad for: -Not burning your eyes out with it’s insane brightness -Being subtle

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Colour Name: Rain

Description: Light opaque blue/grey.

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Thoughts: Actually a really interesting colour. Very odd combination between blue and grey, I think the name pretty accurately describes it!

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Good for: -Nail art, good consistency to use with a small brush -Rain clouds etc… anything gloomy -Work safe designs

Bad for: -Cheery bright designs

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Colour Name: Lilac

Description: Pretty much what the name says… Lilac.

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Thoughts: I really like the packaging on this one! The polish itself is a nice glossy flattering colour suitable for crazy nail art but also more subdued work friendly things.

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Good for: -Work friendly mani’s -Macaron nail art etc

Bad for: -Anything with a big oomf. -Probably not good with konad as the first coat is a little weak.

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Colour Name:

Nude

Description: Tan opaque polish.

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Thoughts: Meh, there’s nothing actually wrong with the polish, it applies well and dries glossy… but I just don’t like it because I find tan so boring.

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Good for: -Work safe stuff I suppose -Leopard print…

Bad for: -Exciting-ness…

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Colour Name: Purple

Description: Nice matte reddish purple.

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Thoughts: I have a soft spot for matte purples, I don’t know why but I just love them. This one is no different, it is quite an interesting one because it layers really well for 3 distinct colours.

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Good for: -Versatility -Using as a matte base and adding glitter

Bad for: -Can’t think of anything.

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Colour Name: Coral

Description: Bright red polish, light pinky tones.

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Thoughts: This is a very similar colour to the Saucy polish from earlier but this one is lighter and more… red. In the bottle it looks more orangy but when applied I thought it was on the pinker side.

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Good for: -More bright manicures. -Again probably good for Konading as it’s very opaque

Bad for: -Non-bright designs (duh)

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Colour Name: Vintage

Description: Mint green, shiny and opaque.

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Thoughts: Another nice shiny opaque colour. This one reminds me of the green/pink striped colours in an old fashioned malt shop. Or maybe an old fashioned dentist.

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Good for: -Nail art like leaves etc, very opaque and good consistency.

Bad for: -Using on it’s own, I think a whole polish design in this shade might be a bit odd because it’s kind of a washed out colour.

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Colour Name: Tea Rose

Description: Dark pink glossy polish.

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Thoughts: This one dries a lot more darkly than in the bottle. Very nice colour and not a shade I’ve seen very often.

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Good for: -Work safe manicures -Natural but interesting designs

Bad for: -Out there/unnatural designs.

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Colour Name: Posh

Description: Medium brown for “ladylike” nails.

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Thoughts: Again there wasn’t anything actually wrong with this polish but I just am not a fan of browns like this… they look so boring to me! Also I have no idea how this colour is for posh nails but that’s just me XD

Eyeko Nail Polish Swatches

Good for: -Ummmm… More leopard print?

Bad for: -Cutesy sweet designs.

I can’t find the photo of the 3 layered swatch I took so you will have to use your imagination. Pretty much it was opaque in 1 coat.

Overall I quite like the quality of Eyeko polishes, though considering the size of the bottle I think they are quite expensive. Some of the colours they come product are quite original. Very nice.
