Decorated Chocolate – Food Friday

Foooood Friday! Today I show you my attempts at a yummy idea I saw in a Japanese magazine like 1 years ago XD Basically the idea was for people strapped for time who wanted to make presents for friends/whatever that were personalised you could take a block of chocolate and decorate the flat side. Easy done 😀

Decorating Chocolate

My attempts? Well baking is not my strong point but I’ll be damned if I don’t give it a go XD

Decorating Chocolate

What you need:

  • Chocolate block
  • Icing powder
  • Water
  • Peppermint essence
  • Sprinkles
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Food colouring
  • Freezer bag
Decorating Chocolate
First make up some icing, you probably won’t need very much so just stick some icing powder into a bowl, measuring is for suckers 😉
Decorating Chocolate
Add a little peppermint essence:

I really wish these stupid bottles came with dropper tops, it’s quite hard to get the right amount out *_*
Decorating Chocolate
Add a few drops of food colouring if you want.
Decorating Chocolate
Mix together and if needed add a few drops of water at a time until it’s a consistency you can pipe.
Decorating Chocolate
Mine was a bit too runny so watch out for that!
Decorating Chocolate
Take a break and have a cup of tea because you’ve worked hard so far 😛

Decorating Chocolate

Now you need to cut a piece of chocolate to use as the canvas. If you’re like me you probably cheaped out and bought the home brand chocolate so don’t expect too much quality-wise 😉

Decorating Chocolate

Decide how much chocolate you will use based on how much you love the person you’re giving it to. I’m giving mine to James… this much?

Decorating Chocolate

Hell no I’m not giving away that much chocolate! Realistic:

Decorating Chocolate

I love him but I also love chocolate! Unrepentant!

Decorating Chocolate

Pour the icing into a corner of the freezer bag.

Decorating Chocolate

Snip a tiny corner off so it becomes a make shift piping bag… or you could just use a real one.

Decorating Chocolate

Now pipe on a pretty design 😀 I wrote “James” and drew a heart… unfortunately I was a little over ambitious with the S so it looks more like “Jimmy”…

Decorating Chocolate

…then it melted a bit so it looked more like Jsmnay.

Decorating Chocolate

I piped around the outside too as a border.

Decorating Chocolate

While the icing is still wet add sprinkles all over it.

Decorating Chocolate

And brush off any extras.

Decorating Chocolate

He loves little marshmallows so using some more icing like glue I made a border of them.

Decorating Chocolate

Taadaa…

Decorating Chocolate

And because it already looked pretty hilarious I added some more icing on top. I’m deleting all of the inappropriate comments James keeps trying to add in here about what it really looks like.

Decorating Chocolate

So stick it in the fridge to set and add a cute bag!

Decorating Chocolate

Present for you!

Decorating Chocolate

Taaadaaaa! I love you Jsmnay! Even if sometimes I’m not sure why…

Decorating Chocolate

-_-‘

So I’m sure if you were better at baking/decorating you would be able to draw something actually cute on there! And hopefully the person you give yours to won’t be silly enough to try and eat the cute bag. Happy Food Friday!

How to Make A Flight Hat – Quick Craft

Another quick easy prop hat to add to my growing collection 😀 This time I wanted a uniform/70’s flight attendant/military-ish hat for my website introduction video! Again I didn’t want to put a huge amount of time/effort into something I would probably only use this once and maybe as a purikura prop so quick stitching and felt to the rescue!

VioletLeBeauxDSC_0187_4105

I used:

  • Pink felt
  • White felt
  • Needle, thread, scissors

VioletLeBeauxDSC_0175_4093

I cut out a football shape for the top out of white…VioletLeBeauxDSC_0179_4097

Folded it in half and then stitched up the fold to give it a seam.

VioletLeBeauxDSC_0181_4099

Next I cut 2 squares of white and 2 rectangles of pink (half the height of the white) which were long enough to go around the sides.

VioletLeBeauxDSC_0180_4098

Stitched the pink around the edges with the white football piece folded up like this:

Stitch up the sides too:

Flip it inside out and you should get something like this (but with the sides stitched up).

VioletLeBeauxDSC_0184_4102

Fold the white squares in half…

And place them at an angle on the sides.

VioletLeBeauxDSC_0186_4104

If you stitch it in place and then fold the bit underneath and stitch. Taadaa hat!

Seriously this is a pretty shoddy hat but it did it’s job! You’ll have just to wait for the project it’s being used in to see it on me though ^_^

Now if you want to see some awesome proper hat tutorials you should check out some of The Fashionate Traveller’s posts she makes some awesome hats!

Morning Make Up and Styling Celeste Hair Tutorials- Weekly Video Round Up

So I’ve been really enjoying making videos recently but I know that a lot of you guys here can’t/don’t want to watch them so I’ve decided that rather than spamming the blog with everything I make, I will post to my Youtube channel a couple of times a week and then once a week I’ll do a round up post here ^_^ That way people who want to watch can and people who don’t can just skip these ones! If you want to see the videos as soon as I post please feel free to subscribe to my Youtube channel over there!

On with the videos then!

First up is a new segment I’m going to do, I get a lot of requests for make up tutorials but they are very time consuming to make so I can’t do them as often as I would like. So compromise: Morning Make Up with Violet! Basically they will be short videos 2-4ish minutes in which I do my make up for various events/outings. There will be basic instructions but not overly detailed because I’m going to spend most of them talking about what I’m doing that day! So it’s kind of like a hybrid of Snapshots and a make up tutorial ^_^

Let me know what you think!

And also posted this week was a Styling Celeste video, this one has us doing a plaited headband look. Because Celeste has dark hair she always worries that plaits and braided styles don’t show they detail they do in lighter hair so we added in a pink extension.

Hope you enjoyed and let me know if you ever have requests ^_^
