How to Turn a Dress into a Belt – Quick Craft

So I found this dress in my clean out which doesn’t look as good on as it should.

I love the detail around the bust but the rest is just unflattering on me.

Bust smocking is really pretty so I wanted to save it. Easiest fix=turn it into a thick beltVioletLeBeaux-Belt-From-Dress-DIY_6072_9279

So to start I cut all of the smocking off…

VioletLeBeaux-Belt-From-Dress-DIY_6073_9280

and cut the seams out too so I could make it more “waist” width rather than “bust” width.

And then sewed the side seams back with an overlocker.

At this point I needed to decide what to do with the top seam. I didn’t really want to hem it and make it bulkier so decided to just overlock the top and bottom seams too.

Right way out:

I didn’t have any black thread on hand so I did it in white and went over it twice to make it a more dense featured white. I thought about adding some detailed embroidery in white with little beads but it got lost somewhere in my “half finished” pile >_< I’ll get around to it eventually… maybe 😀

Mini Curl Wand and 3 Quick Hair Style Instructions
Lots of curly styles using a mini styling wand.
Today I’m going to take my new Remmington mini wand for a test run and use it to create several different styles.
First thing is to section your hair into four.
Start working with the bottom back section and separate a one inch piece.
Wrap the piece of hair around the thick end of the wand once it secure it.
Continue wrapping until you reach the end of the hair.
Be careful not to burn your fingers.
Wait around 10 seconds then unwrap the hair again gently.
Tadaa curl.
Continue taking small sections of hair and curling them in this way.
I got a bit distracted on a phone call so this one was extra curly.
The smaller the sections you take, the curlier the end result.
I like to curl the front sections extra well so they frame my face.
Straight from the rod, these curls come out very defined.
In a moment I’ll show you how to style them differently.
Once you do the other side you should have something like this.
The curl type reminds me a lot of the 1990’s so the first style I thought of was curly volumous pigtails.
For this you need to split your hair in two sections, hold one just above your ear.
Twist once upwards on the side of the head and pin above the twist.
Repeat and enjoy pretending to be in a 90’s cheerleader movie.
Another style right after curling is a simple updo.
Pull the hair upwards into a high ponytail and twist.
Pin in place or just use a wide tooth clip.
Arrange the curls so they cascade over your head.
For an extra dose of the 90’s you can add a zigzag part to your fringe using a bobby pin.
Easy style #2 done!
Now from your original curl, you can actually create several different kinds.
The simple next step is to brush through them with your fingers so they separate slightly.
See the difference on the left and right sides?
This makes it much more relaxed.
Gently running a brush through will create a gentle waved effect.
Again, see the difference between the brushed side on the left and the side I ran my fingers through on the right.
In fact, waves like this are perfect for a Jessica Rabbit-ish look.
Just start by making a deep side part.
Pull a little hair back from the side with the part and pin it.
Blow dry or use a styler for extra fringe volume.
All you need now is some red lipstick to top it off.
Add a black and white filter and you’re done!
I like to be economical with my curls so I don’t have to head style it as often.
To make them last several days this is my schedule:
Day one: curled updo.
Day two: separate with fingers and leave down.
Day three: brush out for waves.
I hope this was a useful video, please check out the blog post linked in the description for more information and tutorials.
Thanks so much for watching.
Bye!

How to Depot Eyeshadow With a Hair Straightener and Unii Palette

One of my Christmas presents this year from the awesome Fables in Fashion was this awesome Unii magnetic palette. So the other day I set about consolidating some of my favorite eyeshadows into an ultimate travel palette!

This time I used the hair straightener method and here’s the way I did it.

First I collected all of my shadows and worked out exactly how many I could fit in.

After letting my mini straightener heat up I picked the first palette to do, since I hadn’t used the method before I picked one that I had another very similar colour to incase it didn’t go well.VioletLeBeaux-depot-eyeshadow-tutorial-70_1399 copyI placed the shadow onto the straightener and used it to gently heat the back, this loosens the glue and allows you to pry them out easily. I was careful not to heat it enough to melt the plastic, just enough to be warm.VioletLeBeaux-depot-eyeshadow-tutorial-73_1400 copyUsing a sewing needle I gently wedged the shadows out. It was a little hard at first because there wasn’t much room between the shadow and plastic but after working the various sides and reheating a few times I managed to pop it out.VioletLeBeaux-depot-eyeshadow-tutorial-74_1400 copy

Done!

VioletLeBeaux-depot-eyeshadow-tutorial-77_1400 copy

Some of the shadows I depotted required a bit of clean up on the bottoms and sides to remove the extra glue or extra crushed shadow.

VioletLeBeaux-depot-eyeshadow-tutorial-78_1400 copy

This was my placement, you can see that the gold (a super cheap one from a palette I hardly use now) didn’t quite fit so I used some scissors and snipped off the end. A couple of the shadows cracked while I was removing them but I fixed that easily by repressing with some hand sanitiser.

VioletLeBeaux-depot-eyeshadow-tutorial-81_1400 copy

Some of the shadows were magnetic to start with but others I needed to add the magnets that came with the palette, this posed a bit of a problem with a couple of the larger ones because they were quite tall and with the added magnet the lid no longer closed. I also found the adhesive on the magnets didn’t want to stick to some of the shadows. I figured I probably wouldn’t be changing the shadows around any time soon so I used thin double sided tape instead.

So there you go, these are the colours I use the most and now they’re all in one place and I don’t have to pack a billion things when I travel!

Absolutely love it and it makes my morning make up routine so much more organised and easy! Thank you Celina!
