Curling Ends Using a Mini Straightener Hair Style Instructions.
Today I’m going to show you how I curl the ends of my hair using a mini straightener.
Mine is a little travel one, perfect size for me.
First section your hair in half.
Divide one half into front and back sections and pin the front out of the way.
Brush through the back which we’ll be working with forst.
Apply a heat protector spray too.
Take a small section of hair and brush it smooth.
Clamp the straightener on the strand around 1/3rd down and then wrap the bottom of the hair completely around the straightener once.
Rotate the straightener in place backwards.
Keep rotating until the end of the hair is pointing straight down again.
Holding the end of the strand gently more the straightener down the hair.
When you get around half way it helps to hold the top of the strand to gently pull it through the straightener.
So this all the way to the very end concentrating on the tips.
It should come out as a wave at the top and a nice round ringlet at the bottom.
So again.
Clamp the straightener.
Wrap the tail around it.
Rotate the straightener so the tail is pointed downwards.
Gently pull the hair through it.
It really helps not to clamp the straightener down too hard.
If it’s too tight you will need to pull the hair through with too much force and that will ruin the curl.
It can be really awkward to get the hang of first but practice to get the twisting motion right really helps.
And there’s another bouncy curl!
So at this point it’s a matter of repeating those steps until you run out of hair.
Once you master the twisting that makes the curls you can twist strands the opposite way so the curl spirals either clockwise or anti-clockwise depending on the style you want.
It’s a good idea to twist them different ways otherwise they can mash together to form a gigantic super curl after a while.
So that’s one section done!
Use some hairspray to set everything in place.
Bouncy!
So let the front section on the same side down and continue.
I like the curls around my face to be tighter so I start higher up and take more time on each curl.
If one of them doesn’t work just wait for it to cool down and try again.
Or if you want to curl it more up the top recurl the section making sure to follow the original curve of the curl.
This is how I fix up one of the strands which wasn’t quite as curly as the others.
No you just need to do the other half. I usually do this while watching tv otherwise it can get pretty boring…
Unfortunately you guys are just stuck watching me.
Though maybe you’re trying to do this along with the video so I’m kind of like the tv.
Bam! Curly ends.
There are so many styles you can do with this hair but my favorite is just to add a hair bow or usamimi. Cute.
If all of your curls spiral in the same direction you might find them coming together into a gigantic monster sausage curl during the day.
If that’s the case you can separate and recurl with your fingers and add some hairspray.
You can also encourage a couple of them to rotate the other way with your fingers.
I hope this was a useful video, please check out the blog post linked in the description for more information and tutorials.
Thanks so much for watching.
Bye!

Melbourne Snapshots!

Today is another edition of Snapshots!

Before we start, if you’re an Australian resident and want to win some Pantene Shampoo/Conditioner head over to the competition on my beauty section.

This post is extra special because my awesome friend Glo-w and her husband Ben came to visit all the way from Malaysia!

How pretty is she?

VioletLeBeauxP1000701_1111 copy

We’ve known each other online for years so when Glo-w and her husband decided to take a trip to Melbourne, I made sure to clear my schedule so we could hang out!
VioletLeBeauxP1000699_1110 copyI’m always worried when I meet people I know online for the first time because you can never really tell people’s real personalities but it was like Glo-w and I had known each other all our lives. Her Hubby Ben was super awesome too and he and James found their mutual love of videos game haha! Oh and large steaks, they are both definitely carnivores so we had lunch at Grill’d 😀VioletLeBeauxP1000698_1110 copy

After lunch we wandered down to the claw machine place and played pachinko 😀

VioletLeBeauxP1000707_1111 copy

I’m totally saving all of my pachinko points for this Hello Kitty frying pan 😀 😀 😀 So pointless but awesome!

VioletLeBeauxP1000711_1112 copy

Glo-w *coughcough* also won a friend to take home as a souvenir! I wonder if she named it yet!

VioletLeBeauxP1000710_1111 copy

While we were there we did some purikura too! God I love that place, everything fun under one roof 😀 I love that in half of them we were totally unprepared for the shots. And Ben seems to have a koala backpack!

VioletLeBeauxP1000713_1112 copy

We showed them around some of the pretty buildings in town and were totally subtle about convincing them to move to Melbourne >:D

VioletLeBeauxP1000716_1112 copy

So subtle in fact that the conversations went like this…

Ben: That’s a cool building.
James: If you lived her you could see it all the time >:D
Glo-w: I love the horse and carriages!
Violet: If you move here,  I will reward you with a ride around the city in one >:D

James and I = subtle like a brick.

VioletLeBeauxP1000719_1112 copy

We went to the Melbourne information center for tourists to get some pamphlets and stuff and there was a display advertising Dracula’s which is a horror themed cabaret restaurant and it had the creepiest rabbit I’ve ever seen in my life. You have been warned!

VioletLeBeauxP1000721_1113 copy

Back to nicer things…

All of the Christmas displays were out… this would have made a lot more sense to actually post before Christmas but I guess you can all reminisce XD Anyway, all the christmas displays were out so we took the opportunity to have fun with them!

VioletLeBeauxP1000727_1113 copy

This area had some kind of motion detection thing which played creepy children’s voices. It was very disturbing and a lot like something out of a horror movie. I was worried the creepy children were going to jump out of the bushes *_*

VioletLeBeauxP1000730_1113 copy

This busker was so funny, he’s a statue and here’s a little kid practising his martial arts moves in the slowest moving battle ever XD

VioletLeBeauxP1000737_1114 copy

We stopped for some snacks and bubble tea… food was kind of main theme of the day haha!

VioletLeBeauxP1000773_1118 copyVioletLeBeauxP1000762_1117 copy

There were little sparrows all over McDonalds stealing people’s fries, so cute but so evil!

VioletLeBeauxP1000796_1120 copy

For dinner we met up with Glo-w and Ben’s cousins and headed for Korean. It was my first time eating Korean food and it was soooo good, I want to try more things!

VioletLeBeauxP1000816_1122 copy

Bergamot enjoyed the tea, I can’t remember what flavor it was supposed to be but it tasted *exactly* like popcorn…. in a good way.VioletLeBeauxP1000827_1123 copy

At dinner Ben told us the saddest story ever about working as a doctor and so he was forced to buy us crepes to make up for it! He was such a good sport XD I think that’s going to become a regular thing, anyone who makes me sad has to buy me a strawberry and green tea crepe to make up for it. It’s impossible to be sad when you’ve eaten a crepe!

VioletLeBeauxP1000828_1123 copyVioletLeBeauxP1000830_1123 copy

We all sat outside on the grass to eat and enjoyed the afternoon. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so full in my life, so much delicious food!

VioletLeBeauxP1000859_1126 copyVioletLeBeauxP1000861_1126 copy

Thanks so much for making time to visit James and I on your trip guys! We had such an awesome day, it was lovely to hang out with you both and hopefully you can come back again *cough*for good*cough* or we can come visit you in Malaysia!

VioletLeBeauxP1000863_1127 copy

We had to stop and pick up groceries on the way home and I spotted these pretty Christmas lights, I’m so obsessed with pretty lights XD

VioletLeBeauxP1000867_1127 copy

I want to cover our house in fairy lights like this.

VioletLeBeauxP1000880_1128 copy

Before I get back into delicious cake type things,  I believe I have found the most unclassy/creepy pizza advertisement ever. ‘Nuff said.

VioletLeBeauxP1000806_1121 copy

Back to classy, respectable things 😉

Just before Christmas we went to morning tea with my Mum at Hope Toun tea rooms. Every time I’ve walked past I’ve really wanted to go visit because the cakes look amazing in the window.

I don’t know if anyone could walk past this and not want some…

VioletLeBeauxP1020891_1321 copyVioletLeBeauxP1020892_1321 copyVioletLeBeauxP1020894_1321 copy

The place is decorated traditional Victorian style and it’s quite stunning.

VioletLeBeauxP1020872_1319 copy

The details are just lovely.

VioletLeBeauxP1020876_1320 copyVioletLeBeauxP1020895_1321 copyVioletLeBeauxP1020896_1322 copy

The tea was quite nice and it provided lots of opportunities for Bergamot photos XD

VioletLeBeauxP1020879_1320 copy

The breakfast I had of avocado, salmon and eggs on toast was really delicious. Best breakfast I’ve had in ages actually even though James spent most of it making immature jokes about the shape of the eggs and caviar.

VioletLeBeauxP1020888_1321 copy

Unfortunately the cake was quite disappointing 🙁

VioletLeBeauxP1020899_1322 copy

While they all looked fantastic, each of us noted that they were quite dry. Even the cheesecake was quite crumbly!VioletLeBeauxP1020902_1322 copy

Quite nice with the cream on the side but there wasn’t enough of that for the whole slice.

VioletLeBeauxP1020906_1323 copy

As pretty as everything was I don’t think I would buy cake here again. I would get breakfast again but skip the cake next time!

Hope you’ve all had a wonderful week and you’re having a great weekend!

Bergamot Bunny Clay Magnet Craft Tutorial

Food Friday will be back next week once I get some more ingredients for baking 😀

So until then I thought I would show you how I made some fun little Bergamot shaped magnets out of paperclay! Paperclay is such a fun and challenging medium, even after playing around with it for so long I still find it hard to get it to do what I want, I think that’s half the fun though!

There’s a video of this coming too soon ^_^

VioletLeBeaux-bergamot-clay-magnet-0631_1395 copy

You need:

  • Paperclay (I’m going to try out a recipe I found to make my own next time, tutorial on that to come!)
  • Magnet
  • Hot glue
  • Watercolour paint
This is the paperclay I’m using, it’s from Tokuya.
VioletLeBeaux-bergamot-clay-magnet-0562_1389 copy
I like how fluffy and tearable it is.
VioletLeBeaux-bergamot-clay-magnet-0563_1389 copy
Start by making a ball for the body, it should be around 2cm wide. Press it so it sits slightly flat.
VioletLeBeaux-bergamot-clay-magnet-0565_1389 copy
Press your thumb into the top to make an indent.
VioletLeBeaux-bergamot-clay-magnet-0566_1389 copy
You should get something like this…
VioletLeBeaux-bergamot-clay-magnet-0567_1389 copy
It helps to do all of this on a flat surface that you can easily peel it off later. You might want to put some cling wrap down to make it easier later.
Now make two long slightly flat sausages for the ears and place them down here…
VioletLeBeaux-bergamot-clay-magnet-0568_1389 copy
Press the ends down again with your thumb.
VioletLeBeaux-bergamot-clay-magnet-0570_1389 copy
Make a nice big slightly oval shape for the face and lay it over the top of the body/ears. The head should fit easily in the indents you already made. You should add a tiny bit of water to the indents so the head sticks down.
VioletLeBeaux-bergamot-clay-magnet-0572_1390 copy
Let’s make some arms and legs! Make two little balls and squish them into ovals, smoosh the ends with your thumb again and using some water, stick them to the sides of the body in this area:
VioletLeBeaux-bergamot-clay-magnet-0573_1390 copy
And do the same with two smaller balls on the front of the body. With the legs done you should have something like this:
VioletLeBeaux-bergamot-clay-magnet-0574_1390 copy
If you find any cracks or odd things out of place just dip your finger in a little water and smooth over them.
VioletLeBeaux-bergamot-clay-magnet-0576_1390 copy
Also add a little bow to the front near the ears. Wait for the front to dry a little bit and flip Bergamot over. Now smooth all of the back joins with a wet finger so it’s really well stuck together.
VioletLeBeaux-bergamot-clay-magnet-0575_1390 copy
Leave it to dry completely and then hot glue a magnet to the back.

VioletLeBeaux-bergamot-clay-magnet-0632_1395 copy

The last thing to do is paint on some details. I used watercolour paint because it was on hand already and soaked into the clay easily. You could also use a marker or pen.

Bergamot has little hearts in her ears, big black eyes, blushing cheeks, little mouth and a V on her foot.

VioletLeBeaux-bergamot-clay-magnet-0631_1395 copy

And that’s it! Little Bergamot magnets to live on your fridge 😀 These are so much quicker to make than actual Bergamots so I want to make some other animals now as gifts!
