Smooshy Winter Scarf Knitting Pattern

Winter is coming *insert Game of Thrones theme song….* on strong and when Winter hits I tend to get in the mood to knit and crochet 😀

I’ve resolved this month to make time for myself and doing things that *I* want to do eg. crafting. The first project I finished was this big smooshy scarf!

Knitting-green-scarf-pattern3462

The knit is super loose and it looks great wrapped up or even rolled into a twist.Knitting-green-scarf-pattern3485

You will need white yarn, green yarn and big fat needles. These ones are 15mm.

The key to this scarf is using fat needles with thin yarn and knitting with two strands of yarn at a time. I’m using standard 8 ply yarn here.

I usually wind the whole ball so the yarn is doubled before I start that way it’s all finished and I don’t have to deal with a knotty mess half way through.

Cast on 35 stitches in green.

Knitting-green-scarf-pattern0438

Knit in stockinette stitch.

Once you finish 10 rows switch colour to white.

Knitting-green-scarf-pattern0443

Alternate bands of white and green every 10 rows until you feel like the scarf is long enough. This project is super quick to do up in an afternoon thanks to the chunky needles!

Cast off when you’re all finished!

Now fold the scarf in half (good side out) and use a yarn needle to stitch up the side. It will turn into a big tube! You can sew the ends shut or leave them open so you can tuck them together.

Done, done and done!

Knitting-green-scarf-pattern3465

I love to wear it wrapped around twice and then tied in a knot. I have an obsession with big scarves!

Ready in a flash and it’s time to go out and enjoy the crisp winter air!

How To Do A Puffy Bun Without Teasing/Back Combing – Hair Tutorial

I love big buns (and I cannot lie… >_>) but sometimes it’s nice to be able to wear them without teasing/backcombing. Some people aren’t fans of backcombing because it doesn’t suit every hair type and it can be damaging. It’s good to take a break from damaging things!

Big-Bun-No-Teasing818

Start with clean brushed hair. I find this works best on just washed hair for me because it’s quite frizzy so it’s easier to get volume. That said if you have a different kind of hair you may get better results with dirtier hair, it’s best to experiment until you find what works the best!

Big-Bun-No-Teasing766

Don’t you hate when you promise yourself that you’ll avoid damaging hair styles but you want lots of volume? What on earth is a girl to do? XD

Big-Bun-No-Teasing767

Tie your hair up in a ponytail.

Big-Bun-No-Teasing770

The pony tail should be as high as you want the finished bun to be.

Big-Bun-No-Teasing774

Hairspray through the loose hair. This will help give volume and give the style a lot more staying power.

Big-Bun-No-Teasing781

Now mess up your hair!

Big-Bun-No-Teasing786

Run your fingers through your hair and shake it up!

Big-Bun-No-Teasing789

You’ll look super classy ;D

Big-Bun-No-Teasing791

But this messiness is going to create the volume so the puffier the better.

Big-Bun-No-Teasing792

Now to create the actual bun.

Big-Bun-No-Teasing794

Usually when you make a bun you would twist the hair so it curls into a bun. Twisting will push down all of the volume we just made though so while you do need to twist a tiny bit to make the bun, try to keep it to a minimum and just wrap the hair around in a circle:

Pin it in place.

Big-Bun-No-Teasing798

Once it is pinned securely you can pull the bun apart with your fingers so it becomes even more puffy.

Big-Bun-No-Teasing800

Lastly another blast of hairspray!

Big-Bun-No-Teasing803

And a pretty accessory…

Big-Bun-No-Teasing810

And you’re all done!

Big-Bun-No-Teasing812

Go enjoy your puffy bun and enjoy not having to spend ages brushing out teasing later 😀

Big-Bun-No-Teasing809

This week I’ve set up a craft desk and I’m so excited to be able to start making things again! I now have a dressmaker’s mannequin to drape things on so I can start making a lot of sewing tutorials! So excited to start all of that!

Cheese, Beaches and Flowers – Snapshots from QLD 2

On to the next day of our Queensland trip!

There weren’t any tours because it was Easter but we sat down for a very cheesy lunch.

Maleny-Cheese085

Here is the matching vlog, there are bits from The Big Pineapple there too!

I made fun of Celina and Tobias for not being able to finish their deep fried Brie… then I failed too >_>

Maleny-Cheese089

Best breakfast EVER.

The whole place was full of  beautiful flowers.

Saturday was a really busy day! After lunch we drove to Montville so James could FINALLY take photos of the view on a day where it wasn’t rainy and cloudy…

Mooloolaba-QLD-2013-20064Mooloolaba-QLD-2013-20063

… as it turned out it was actually rainy and cloudy again haha! Poor James!

Mooloolaba-QLD-2013113

We were supposed to go to the Nutworks and Chocolate factory but after driving around for ages to find it, it was closed ;_;

Instead we went across the road to The Ginger Factory!

Big-Pineapple26

Honestly… I don’t like ginger. It was almost closing time anyway so we just wandered around the gift store. They had a honey area too, who knew how many honey products there were!

Mooloolaba-QLD-2013-20066

I bought a lollipop (which tasted TERRIBLE) and a cute bee handkerchief! Which tasted so-so…no,wait.

Mooloolaba-QLD-2013120

After all of that we were super tired so we drove back to the hotel and watched the rain for a while. Such pretty views!

Mooloolaba-QLD-2013-10943

Sunday was our last full day at the coast and we filmed for most of the day. Celina and I took turns on the balcony to film hair and make up tutorials.

Mooloolaba-QLD-2013155

The boys decided to go surfing while we were finishing up our filming at the hotel then we all went down to film at the beach together.

Mooloolaba-QLD-2013-20070

We waited for low tide so we could see the rock pools…

Mooloolaba-QLD-2013-20075

And of course the second we got the camera gear out it started raining!!!

Mooloolaba-QLD-2013228

That didn’t stop us though!

Mooloolaba-QLD-2013-20083Mooloolaba-QLD-2013-20084

I am really fascinated with rock pools!

I was shooting an outfit video so I had a lot more jewellery than most people wear at the beach XD

I love that I caught James’ reflection on this shot!

Mooloolaba-QLD-2013-20163

Of course the second we went back to the hotel it started looking like this XD

Mooloolaba-QLD-2013-20176

That night we packed up and had dinner at The 4th Floor.

The next morning we drove straight to the airport to drop off Celina and Toby! We almost didn’t make it in time because the traffic was so terrible *_*

The rest of our trip was quite uneventful as we hung out, filmed things and relaxed with James’ parents.

The one day I took nice photos was the day we visited South Bank.

Mooloolaba-QLD-2013-20184

I just love these flowers.

Mooloolaba-QLD-2013-20186

The whole walkway is magical… other than that whole caution sign and the workers trimming them >_>

Jerk ibises… (ibi?) who were stealing food.

Mooloolaba-QLD-2013-20214

I think James might have the rest of my photos so there will probably be a part 2 of this full of behind the scenes things… like me shaking my fist at that damn ibis!

We saw my Dad for a little bit too. His dog Ruby is 18 now and I think she won’t be around much longer as she’s had several strokes. Poor girl is mostly blind and deaf now too 🙁

Mooloolaba-QLD-2013-20228

It made me really miss Lottie >_< She was SO happy to see us when we got home. I really want to take her with us when we travel from now on! She would have totally loved the beach.

This was an extremely packed trip and we had so much fun. It was wonderful seeing The Sunshine Coast in a completely different light. Thank you so much to everyone who let us come and visit. Everyone was so nice and I really appreciate the effort everyone went to to make our stay awesome!

Definitely check out The Sunshine Coast and all of the places we visited the next time you’re in Queensland!
