For the first episode I decided to make my own flavoured sugar cubes in cute little shapes.

The hearts are my favorite!

So get yourself a cute outfit and let’s get started. I made my chef hat, here’s how I did it!

And here is the video version!

So let’s get started.

You need:

  • Sugar
  • Food colour or flavour, I’m using cake flavouring
  • Water
  • Cute moulds, preferably silicon

Add your sugar to a mixing bowl. The amount you need depends on how many you want to make, I used around 1/4 of a cup to begin with then made another batch.

Grab your flavouring, I chose strawberry.

DIY-Strawberry-Sugar-Cubes2.59.11 PM

Add a few drops to the sugar.

DIY-Strawberry-Sugar-Cubes2.59.29 PM

Mix it with a spoon thoroughly until it’s completely pink and coated.

It smells SO good.

Add a teaspoon or two of water to the mixture until it turns into a slushee kind of consistancy. You don’t want to dissolve or melt the sugar, just get it a bit damp.

Once the mixture is ready, spoon it into the moulds.

DIY-Strawberry-Sugar-Cubes3.01.21 PM

Press the sugar into each shape, make sure it’s smooshed in so there are no air pockets.

DIY-Strawberry-Sugar-Cubes3.01.39 PM

You should have something like this:

DIY-Strawberry-Sugar-Cubes3.02.50 PM

Now pop them into the oven on the grill setting. You need to keep a close eye on them because we want the water to evaporate but we don’t want the sugar to melt.

DIY-Strawberry-Sugar-Cubes3.01.53 PM

While I was waiting I had a puppy cuddle break. I think she was just trying to get to the sugar >_>

DIY-Strawberry-Sugar-Cubes3.02.36 PM

If you don’t want to put the sugar into the oven you can just leave them out on the bench over night to dry.

Once they’re all hard and dry just pop them out on to a plate.

Keep in mind that if you don’t have chocolate moulds like this you can just roll the sugar out on to a tray and use cookie cutters or a knife to cut the shapes.

DIY-Strawberry-Sugar-Cubes3.03.16 PM

Taadaa!

DIY-Strawberry-Sugar-Cubes3.03.27 PM

YAY!! So cute and delicious!

DIY-Strawberry-Sugar-Cubes3.04.01 PM

I like to use them with English Breakfast tea, it’s delicious!

DIY-Strawberry-Sugar-Cubes3.04.08 PM

Now let’s all rejoice that I didn’t burn the kitchen down 😀

Hope you enjoyed and let me know what I should cook next!

Decoden Laptop Tutorial- It’s Finally Finished!

I have been trying to decoden my laptop since around 2008. How embarrassing is that! Especially because since then I’ve gone through 3 laptops and managed to finish… none of them *_*

But look, I finally did it!!!

Decoden-Laptop5395

I think what stopped me for so long was lack of design inspiration. I have seen many deco laptops over the years but none of the designs really jumped out at me. I wanted something special that was perfectly my taste and I wouldn’t get bored with after 10 minutes.

But first let me show you how to protect your gadgets before you deco them so you don’t damage the actual product.

Decoden-Laptop150

You need clear book covering contact and scissors. Start by cleaning your item and making sure it’s completely dry.

Decoden-Laptop148

Cut a piece of contact which is a few inches bigger than your surface.

Decoden-Laptop151

Fold the edge over a few inches.

Decoden-Laptop153

Peel back to reveal the sticky side of the contact to the fold.

Decoden-Laptop154

Carefully stick it down to the edge of your surface and make sure it’s completely straight and has no bubbles. It’s important to get this foundation right otherwise you will have a lot of trouble with airbubbles on the rest of the surface.

Gently pull the paper away from the contact and press it down using something flat like a ruler or piece of cardboard to make sure there are no bubbles.

Decoden-Laptop161

So now you’ve got this, smooth but lots of overhand to get rid of.

Decoden-Laptop168

For the corners, cut a bit diagonally and smooth down. My corners were curved so I had to cut further in.

Decoden-Laptop170

Snip around the edges very closely.

Decoden-Laptop173

Done!

Decoden-Laptop177

Shiny and protected from dust and glue now!

Decoden-Laptop176

So deco time!

It took me quite a while to decide what to do with it so I started the design at the center.

Decoden-Laptop182

From there it kind of evolved into a chandelier design.

Decoden-Laptop9914

And just became more elaborate.

Decoden-Laptop2803

It was at this point that I got a bit stuck design-wise and it stayed half done for around a year. I had to take it traveling and it got a bit destroyed. Small stones which aren’t part of a larger design are less stable and more likely to be knocked off.

Then a few weeks ago I decided that it was time to bite the bullet and finally finish it. This is the year of finishing long term projects after all 😀

Here are two instagram videos of how I did it:

I’m so glad to be done with it!!

Decoden-Laptop5394

My favorite part is when the Apple logo glows it looks like the cameo behind the chandelier is glowing!

Decoden-Laptop5397

The design ended up being quite art deco!

Clearly I’ve been watching far  too many eps of Poirot lately, as if there is such a thing!

I’m so happy with how it turned out… and to be able to cross it off my list after so many years. Now it’s time to start some new projects!
