A while ago you might remember that I was given some *awesome* handmade yarn from the lovely Vintage Grrl and I made it into fingerless gloves. Well I still had half a ball left over from that so I needed to think of a little project that would be cute but not require much yarn… and so a mug warmer was born ^_^
I started with a chain which was long enough to go around the the mug.
I then started a pattern of 3xDC in the third chain, SC, repeat until the end. This made cute little scallops:
At the end of the row I chained a couple and repeated the pattern of 3DC into the tops of each scallop.
This was after the second row:
I pretty much just kept on with this until it was long enough to cover my mug.
Close up you can see the pattern a little better…
I finished off by adding scallops to the bottom side as well ^_^
I folded the edges in and stitched them together at the top and bottom corners.
This way the whole thing just slips over the mug while leaving space for the handle. Super easy quick craft to do while watching a movie
That said now that I have my awesome warming mug of doom I don’t really need it anymore hahaha XD Very fun to make anyway, I’ll have to find another use for it! Maybe I’ll make it into a big scallopy hair bow ๐
As you all know, I am a big lover of socks and stockings so when The Sock Boutique were lovely enough to send me one of the designs they’ve just started stocking I was quite excited to see what would arrive!
Beautifully wrapped up in tissue paper and a little pink ribbon…
Inside was this pair of socks from Leg Avenue:
I *think* this particular Leg Avenue design is a knock off of a Japanese brand’s design but I can’t for the life of me remember which brand though, so someone correct me please!ANGELIC PRETTY design (thanks for the correction Tash!). They are designed to mimic lace up boots. Very cute idea!
I quite like this design because they can be dressed up or down while still providing a point of interest. For example this is how I wore them in a casual way for grocery shopping…
And this is them dressed up to go out to dinner later that night.
I found that the socks themselves were made from very comfy cotton and even though they are designed to be knee high socks, I am quite short at 151cm so I wore them comfortably over the knee all day and they didn’t slip down at all.
I was wearing stockings under them this day because it was freeeezing outside but you can see the over the knee-ness here:
They feature lace around the top with a small polka dot bow. The lace wasn’t great quality but it doesn’t actually touch the skin so the scratchiness didn’t bother me. I am thinking that replacing it with cotton lace would be very easy to do, though I always wear them under longer dresses so no one will ever see the tops anyway…
Nice close up of the details, my favorite part are the little hearts! I don’t think these are “brand” quality socks but considering they only cost $8 while brand socks cost $30ish I am very happy with them.
Overall I am very happy with the quality and comfort of this pair. Very versatile for co-ordinations too! I’m looking forward to seeing what else they start stocking at The Sock Boutique!
If you would like your own pair you can buy these and others from The Sock Boutique.
I love doing tutorials like this, I want to lots more of them ๐
So there you go, what do you all think?
I hope you all found that helpful. Flowers like this are really easy to paint once you get the basic concept. Let me know if any of you try it out, I would love to see!

Bye!
Today we did a whole lot of walking and exploring some of the thrift stores in Melbourne ๐
James who loves shopping is suave as ever!
Our tour guides were Celesteand this awesome book ๐
We saw a whole lot of cute things including beautiful tea pots, dresses and skirts. One of my favorite dresses for the day was this blue number which reminded me of a Regency gown. It’s hard to see here but the details of the flower chains were lovely. I didn’t end up buying it, but I did end up buying the pink skirt hanging up for a whopping $4.99 ๐ You’ll have to wait until next time for photos of the haul!
I think we ended up hitting around 8 stores today! I can’t wait to have some more money to go shopping with… I left behind the most beautiful 4 piece Maxwell Williams mug/plate/dinner plate set in mint green with pink flowers only $15 but out of my budget ;_;
After all of the shopping we stopped in for lunch at Ping’s Dumpling Kitchen.
Delicious noodles, dumplings and crispy chicken rice was had!
I tried something called Chinese Black Fungus which was a first! It’s kind of like yummy jelly… but it was also hairy so I didn’t like the texture XD
I’ve been obsessing a bit over green tea lately, what are all of your favorite blends? I really like Jasmine at the moment ๐
Now some lovely architecture I spotted this week…
This arcade houses my favorite chocolate shop: Haigh’s!
They have the most beautiful mosaics all over the floors.
And the ceilings are wonderful too. There are fantastic details pretty much everywhere you look in this place!
I received the most lovely letter from Omthis week too, I can’t wait to sit down and write her a reply. She included the cutest little hair bows (photos later) too. I love receiving snail mail ๐ I mean I love email but it’s so nice to get a good old fashioned letter. I love seeing other people’s hand writing!
James’ baking this week consisted of one very yummy swirly sponge cake ^_^
And I’ll leave you with the worst number plate I have ever seen in my entire life… Yes it is made of torn cardboard and written on with a ball point pen -_-‘
Tomorrow I am going to show you all how I painted those rose print nails in a video tutorial ๐
