Non-Dairy Confectionery Review Food Friday :D

Today is a special Food Friday, instead of doing a regular post I’m very pleased to be able to review some items from Non-Dairy Confectionery!

Non-Dairy Confectionery is a sweets deco jewellery and accessorie shop on Etsy run by the lovely Sara. I’ve been talking to Sara via email for almost a year now as she’s been a reader here. I’ve been a fan of her work since I first saw photos of her creations so long ago so when she told me she was opening a shop I was really excited to see more of her work and add it to my “to-buy” list. She was way ahead of me though and was nice enough to post me a care package, I felt so special when I picked up the package from the post office 😀

So let’s get down to it!

Shop: Non Dairy Confectionery, visit the Etsy store here.

Shipping: Around 14 days, which is standard airmail from the US to Aus. Packed in a very cute satchel which had deco tape and drawings all over it. Everything was wrapped well and nothing broke on the way over, very happy with the shipping.

So what did I get?

4 adorable rings, a case for my iphone and whipped cream earring studs.

First off the iphone case!

VioletLeBeauxDSC_4344_15493

The design is built on a clear hard plastic iphone case which fits snugly over my phone and doesn’t make it bulky. I was concerned that the icecream scoops would make it bulky and heavy and but it’s very light and I honestly don’t notice a weight difference with it on or off the phone. It still fits in the phone pockets of my bag too so not bulky either. Double plus!I love the design, the fact that it’s totally custom and has a gigantic V in it makes me a very happy girl 😀 The whipped cream is piped evenly and the peaks are all very well formed. all of the food items are so realistic, especially the icecream which is very hard to do.Overall I love this case! The cream doesn’t attract dirt like some other cream products I’ve had, it does well being left in my handbag and the design is super cute ^_^

Interestingly all of these pieces surpassed my expectations in durability too. That’s one of the things that I always worry about with sweets jewellery because if it’s not well made with the right materials it can be hard to keep clean and be quite delicate. Sara mixes her own blends of clays and I can really see the difference that it makes here because compared to other pieces I’ve had in the past these have really held up!

VioletLeBeauxDSC_4347_15496

Next the rings!

Each ring is on an adjustable metal base which has a two band design.

icecream

The deluxe icecream ring is the most detailed out of the bunch and features chocolate topping, whipped cream, a waffle and sprinkles. I would actually quite like to eat this in real life also 😀 Out of the bunch this one has gotten the most attention when I’ve worn it. In fact I was in Sydney for a photoshoot a couple of weeks ago (more on that as soon as I’m allowed to talk about it!) and I happened to be wearing this one, the stylist spotted it and was so excited that she asked me to wear all of them in the shoot! I can’t wait to post some of the photos from that, it’s going to be awesome!

Anyway this is definitely the show stopper of the group 😀

VioletLeBeauxP1050235_15737

The rainbow sherbet was my favorite overall. Etsy link here.

Something about the colours and design is just adorable and because it’s not massive I found it easy to incorporate into outfits. It’s quite simple at first glance but it really tops off outfits well. Lots of these are featuring in up coming outfit photos 😀

VioletLeBeauxP1050231_15733

Next up is the whipped cream and orange ring. The whipped cream part is squishy and flexible. Again from being in Sydney that day I can attest to how durable these are because I was rushing around so much at the end that I just threw them all in my bag and forgot about them. They were in the front section without any protection and got bumped and crushed quite a bit on the plane home but when I unzipped it not one of them was even a little damage *_* It’s some kind of magic I tell you!

VioletLeBeauxP1050230_15732

Lastly but not least the strawberry heart ring! This is awesome for people who love sweets but don’t like to dress in such an over the top way because it’s adorable but it’s quite subtle.

VioletLeBeauxP1050232_15734

Lastly the whipped cream studs… well I would love to show you a photo of these but when I changed out of them in Sydney I think I left them on the hotel room bench ;_; The same quality goes for them though, squishy whipped cream, durable and cute design. I can’t believe how stupid I was to forget them, this is what happens when I only get 4 hours sleep! Even if I don’t have a photo, they look very similar to the whipped cream above minus the orange slices. Super cute so a plus for me on these too.

So overall thoughts? Everything is very well made, Sara clearly knows her materials well and works with them expertly. Durable and there are options for big over the top stuff as well as more understated pieces. With rings at around $10 and phone cases $25-40 the prices on her etsy store are very reasonable in my opinion especially when you consider the amount of work that goes into things like this. I love the designs and I didn’t find anything bad about them.

I would absolutely buy from this store and I’ve mentally put a whole lot of other things from Non-Dairy Confectionery on my buying list 😀 She’s been posting hair accessories and headphones on her tumblr lately so I can’t wait for more of them to make it to the store 😀

If you’d like to drool over some of the other pieces take a look at the NDC Tumblr here or go like the Facebook page here.

BYS “Dazzling” Green Glam Glitter Nail Polish

Price: $4.50

Obtained: Bought.

Thoughts:

I do love a good glitter polish, unfortunately this one didn’t really live up to my expectations. Glitter is something that either really works or really doesn’t and in this polish the consistency allows the glitter to sink to the bottom so no matter how hard you try it’s pretty imposible to get any out. The more recent glitters from BYS have been much better in consistency so I think there was a formula change somewhere along the way. I do like it as a basic mint colour though, it’s almost completely transparent so you can do some very interesting layering effects.

Would I buy BYS “Dazzling” Green Glam Glitter Nail Polish again: Yes for a mint polish, no for a glitter as it’s too hard to get the chunks out.

Thoughts:

Bright orange based red. Great formula, dries quickly and nice cheap. Fantastic formula for working with Konad too.

Would I buy Ulta3 Fire Nail Polish Swatch again: Yep, good price and great polish!

The Face Shop BK902 Nail Polish

Brand: The Face Shop

Colour Name: BK 902

Bought From: The Face Shop

Price: Around $4, can’t completely remember

Description: Sheer silvery grey polish with silver glitter.

Volume: 11ml

Ingredients: Ethyl Acetate, Butyl Acetate, Tosylamide/Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor, Dipropylene Glycol Dibensoate, Nitrocellulose, Citric Acid, Tocopheryl Acetate, Keratin, Titanium Dioxide (Cl-7791), Mylar.

Bottle: Not a great design. With the bulk of the polish at the bottom as soon as you use up the first amount it becomes very difficult to get anything out.

Brush: Quite thin straight rounded brush.

Thoughts: This is a very sheer polish, even with 3-4 coats you won’t get it very opaque. It is a very interesting colour though and surprisingly versatile. Because it has a silver tint through it you can top coat any colour polish to get a pastel effect.

Good for:

-Making snow flakes in nail art

-Top coating bright colours for pastel effects

-Christmas and winter nail art designs

Bad for:

-Being left plain on nails because it’s so sheer, you can see everything underneath.

-Konad designs

Sally Hansen Platinum Nail Polish

Brand: Sally Hansen

Colour Name: 17 Platinum

Bought From: Gift

Price: Not sure

Description: Very sheer pearlescent polish.

Volume: 13.3ml

Ingredients: Ethyl Acetate, Butyl Acetate, Nitrocellulose, Propyl Acetate, Tosylamide/Formaldehyde Resin, Isopropyl Alcohol, Trimethypentony Diisobutytate, Triphenyl Posphate, Ethyl Trosytamide, Stesralkonium Bentanite, Camphor, Diacetone Alcohol, Stearalkinium Hectorite, Benzohenone- 1, Citric Acid, Dimenthicone, Diamond Powder, Alumina, Hydolyzed Rhodophycea Extract. May Also Contain:Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Silica, Polyethelene, Ter(unreadable)thglate, May Contain: Guanine, Mica, Bismuth Oxychloride, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, Ferric Perrocyanide, Yellos 5 lake, Red 6 Lake, Red 7 Lake, Red 34 Lake, Aluminum Powder, Yellow 1, Violet 2

Bottle: Nice long high bottle, don’t like the shiny silver top as it looks a bit cheap. Do really like the diamante stuck in the front of the bottle, that’s great!

Brush: Very nice thin flexible bristles. Long stem so it reaches that last little bit of polish in the bottle too!

Drying Time: First coat dries very fast, send coat takes quite a while longer and remains tacky for quite a while

Thoughts: Very versatile and useful polish, sheer enough to be layered over other polishes and leaves a very nice pearly finish. I’ve also used it as a finish when making my own flat back pearls ^_^ The formula is very thin and doesn’t streak easily.

Good for:

-Changing the colour of other polishes.

-Making very pearly traditional french tips.

-Making flat back pearls and other nail art bits and pieces.

Bad for:

-Plain polished nails, very sheer.

-If you’re in a hurry as drying time for 2+ coats takes a while.

Hello Kitty Priceline Make Up Collection Review

VioletLeBeaux-Hello-Kitty-Make-Up-Review-4321_15481

A while ago the PR department fro the new Hello Kity line of make up contacted me to see if I wanted to try out some samples from the new collection… umm YES! So let’s go through these one by one!

VioletLeBeaux-Hello-Kitty-Make-Up-Review-4321_15481

Pretty Mascara- Magnetic Look in Dark Black- $14.95

The packaging is very pretty thought it didn’t take long for some of the pink to scratch off from being in my bag. The brush is average sized and flexible. The formula doesn’t clumpy and the brush separates lashes very easily. It lengthens but doesn’t really thicken much so it’s good for natural looks. I really like this mascara actually, the only thing that could make it better for me would be if it came in a better or smaller bottle as it doesn’t seem to fit in with the rest of the collection.

VioletLeBeaux-Hello-Kitty-Make-Up-Review-4319_15479

Pretty Eyeliner Matte Black- $11.95

I love the mini bottle that this comes it, it’s perfect handbag size. The applicator is a felt tip in a medium size and it makes doing flicks quite easy. The finish is very matte which was interesting. I liked how quickly it dried but my main complaint was that once dry it felt kind of chalky and rubbed off on my fingers easily. It’s not a bad eyeliner and it’s definitely something I would keep in my collection because of the interesting finish it gives.

VioletLeBeaux-Hello-Kitty-Make-Up-Review-4318_15478

Nail Polish in Golden Girl $9.95

Very cute polish, it’s a gold base with a silver shimmer so the finish is very interesting. I think this would look amazing used in a Konad stamp or something similar because it would provide a lot of shine. The formula is good, it dries fast and I like the design of the bottle.

VioletLeBeaux-Hello-Kitty-Make-Up-Review-4325_15484

Compact in Pashmina Ambre- $14.95

This compact is one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen. It’s perfect for my handbag: slim, cute and with a mirror that seems to magically keep itself clean. Unfortunately the powder is the darkest shade available so it’s only use to me is as a bronzer with isn’t really my thing. I did test it out and the smooth formula almost convinced me to give bronzers another chance… almost. It is very smooth, sheer and has a slight light catching shimmer to it. I think I would definitely give the lighter pink shades a try as blush or possibly for contouring but this one is much too dark for my skin. That said I can’t fault the formula and would recommend it for others especially with the cute compact.

VioletLeBeaux-Hello-Kitty-Make-Up-Review-4331_15489

Semi Matte Lipstick in Bollywood- $12.95

Love how small the tubes of these are, the amount of lipstick seems the same as other full size ones I own but the tiny containers make them very handbag friendly which I love. So big tick on the package for both of these lipsticks. This is a very bold shade, I love that even as bright as it is it’s still a really wearable colour. It doesn’t really stain either so it’s quite forgiving to mistakes made while applying. While on the lips it feels very moisturising but that moisture also makes it a little hard to keep on so I found myself reapplying fairly often.

VioletLeBeaux-Hello-Kitty-Make-Up-Review-4330_15488

Shine and Kiss Lipstick in Violetta- $12.95

Basically my thoughts on this are the same as the first one. I did’t think the colour would be wearable at first because it’s so dark but it’s much more sheer so it gives quite a nice plum finish. It reminds me a lot of the 90’s which is a good thing!

VioletLeBeaux-Hello-Kitty-Make-Up-Review-4337_15490

Shadow Duet in La Dame Au Camelia- $11.95

I really liked these colours, the purple has a lovely shimmer to it and compliments the pink really well. The light pink is more pigmented than the purple but they blend really well together and form a nice look. They last quite well through the day and I really like the container, it’s just begging to be deco’d 😀

Hello Kitty Priceline Make Up Collection Review

Obtained: PR provided.

Thoughts:

Overall I liked the collection, the prices are a bit hit and miss for the quality but I would definitely look at purchasing more of the collection. I have bought another lipstick and lipgloss and I think all of the lip products are the best performers overall from the collection. Definitely worth a look at the other eyeshadows and compacts as well!

Would I buy Hello Kitty Make Up again: Yes, I have and I probably will look for the new collections in future.
