DIY Cute Overalls From Scratch

Jan 21, 2011 by

Overalls have a love hate relationship with me. Everyone seems to love them in Summer but I’ve always been a bit meh. I wore a pinafore (the dress version) for many years as a child and loved it to death but I just couldn’t make the leap as an adult because I have a fear of looking like some kind of cliche farm girl -_- BUT I am trying to branch out and try new things and as Liz Lisa has come out with a few cute sweet looking versions and I had denim left over from repairing James’ brother’s jeans last year I figured what the hell, nothing to lose!

This is what I ended up with ^_^

I would so try these if my legs weren’t so chunky ahhahahaa. I never wear shorts! I am quite jealous of all these girls wearing short shorts this year :)

    • I never wear shorts either XD At least not outside of the house! I don’t have the confidence to do it!!

  7. Great tutorial!!! Your overall is adorable and the buttons give to it a nice sailor vibe!!!
I really love the result. I have a lot of jeans scraps so I’d like to give it a try, but I maybe I’ll exercize my sewing machine skills a bit more before.
I really like your sewing tutorials!

  11. Aaah yay! I’ve been after a super cute over-all pattern for ages. These are so lovely :3

  12. OMG, perfect! My mom got me a bunch of denim fabric for Christmas, and I was just wondering what to do with all of it!

  13. Hi Violet, I really like these overalls, and they seem relatively easy to make. However, I had a question. I don’t have a serger, only a basic sewing machine, so is there an alternative method of sewing it that you could do, or would it fall apart easily?

    • Hey Jacque, if you don’t have a serger then I would suggest using a zigzag stitch to seal all of the raw edges. Or perhaps rolling them over twice so the edges aren’t exposed otherwise it might fall apart more quickly. I hope that helps!

  14. way cute!!! These would look awesome with red & white nautical ribbon trim on the edges :P

  15. this is amazing! what a very helpful tutorial, I would never think of sewing but now, I think i can!

  16. That is simply amazing, Princess!! I’d love to see you wearing the pretty piece:D

Adorable! I don’t have time for anything, but I think I’ll try it during summer or spring, but maybe a bit longer and legs shaped like bloomers!

When i was 10 i had a phase which i wore nothing but one peice outfits. i had a few really pretty ones that looked like this but was made out of stretched cotton instead of jeans. this really brings back memorys. I might have to make something like this now. <3
