Sneaker Sunday- Home Foot Spa Reviews!

Sneaker Sunday time!

We all love our sneakers, they are totally awesome but feet need pampering so this week Valerie and I are going to show you some options on how to give those feet what they really deserve!

To two reviews today.

Firstly the best $18 I spent the month we moved here:

Sneaker Sunday- Foot Spa Reviews

At home foot spa from Kmart. Firstly I couldn’t believe that it was actually $18… So freaking cheap, I haven’t seen them in stores for less that $40!

Basically you pour water into it and turn it on. It massages, whirls heats the water. Awesome in theory but in this case you get what you pay for…

Sneaker Sunday- Foot Spa Reviews

This is where the problems start… it only does 1 out of those 3 things: Massage

It doesn’t heat the water and it doesn’t whirl/bubble. I probably just got a faulty one but the train fare back to a Kmart is around $20 so it seems silly to spend that money when I would get $18 back!

But you know what? Even after all of that this was completely worth the money because after a long day of walking I pop the kettle on, fill the tub up and massage my feet to my heart’s content!

I read a great a magazine, put on some music and chill out.

By the time the water cools I am relaxed and feeling like a big pool of jelly. Having this feeling at home is something that I just love.

Verdict: If I hadn’t got a faulty model I might love it more. I’m not unhappy with the features I have but I am annoyed that the others didn’t work. I can’t vouch for the quality of any other models so I’m giving it a 3/10. If I was going to buy again I would spend the extra money and get a really good one from Priceline or something ^_^

Now once you’re finished your foot spa you, what better way to top it off than a delicious foot/leg treatment??

Sneaker Sunday- Foot Spa Reviews

I tried out the “Tired Leg Gel” from Montagne Jennesse! I absolutely adore their face masks so I thought this would be a nice way to relax.

It comes in a little foil packet and is a thick consistency. There is a generous amount and even if you wanted to do your whole legs you would probably have left overs.Sneaker Sunday- Foot Spa Reviews

The smell was *very* cherry (which I’m personally not a fan of) and it has an insane cooling sensation when you rub it in. This sensation might be really overpowering for some of you, I found it to be a bit unpleasant because it’s the dead of winter here so I was freezing XD

In the Summer though I can see how this would be really lovely after a hot day.

Sneaker Sunday- Foot Spa Reviews

I found it to be quite sticky even after rubbing in for a long time. It would go really well with an extended leg rub from your significant other! XD

Sneaker Sunday- Foot Spa Reviews

Verdict- Very nice feeling, very relaxing but better for Summer but not Winter!

So neither product I used today was completely successful but the most important thing to take out of this is that you should take time to try things like this and pamper yourself and your feet a bit! They spend all week carrying you around so the least you can do is give them half an hour of loving!

Outfit of the day Post- Experimental

Every now and then I like to try something completely out of my style comfort zone and mix my outfit up a bit.

Sometimes it works and some times it doesn’t but either way it’s always fun to try something new! The photos were taken before we moved here but this outfit was all about experimenting with different make up ^_^

A long time ago I bought a 12 sample pack of some very pigmented mineral eye shadow but I’ve never found a use for any of the colours other than purple. After seeing lots of pretty colourful looks online I wanted to try the colours I wouldn’t normally use.

With the green circle lenses it reminds me of a peacock’s feathers!

While it’s not a look that I would probably wear again, creating it was really good practice and I learned more about blending make up. Practice makes perfect right? ^_^

My favorite part of the outfit:

I love shoes with bows on the back!

Do you girls like trying new things and pushing your comfort zones or do you tend to find yourselves in the same style rut with outfits?

Lolita Artwork- Progressing

Earlier in the week when I posted my latest artwork you guys enjoyed it so I thought today I would show you some of the work in progress shots of those ones and a few more so you can see how they were made ^_^

This one started out as a random drawing until James suggested it would look cool as a tattoo, lots of shading ensued!

The finished piece:

Then I had a brief idea to do a whole series of circus themed drawings but only got through one before I was bored of the idea…

By far your favorite was the girl caught in the wind, this is how she started out:

Then I penned the outline…

Then shadows and texture…

Copic markers and we’re all finished ^_^

I hope you enjoyed the very brief look into my studio! It’s been such a long week I’m about ready for a nap and a Bueno!

Boot Customization Tutorial :D

Heehee I think a lot of people have been waiting for this boot customization tutorial! I’ve been keeping everyone on my Twitter up to date with the progress on the boots that I bought on Saturday.

See boots and I are actually bitter enemies. I have *never* found a pair of boots that have fit me well. Ever. The problem seems to be that I have small feet but I also have abnormally small calves so every single pair of boots, no matter how fitted, look like cowboy boots. Not being a cowboy, I have no use for cowboy boots.

So after all these years of searching I decided to take things into my own hands!

I bought this pair of boots from Target 50% off for $45. I chose them because I liked the heel, the rounded toe and they fit my feet comfortably. Because they are thigh high there was lots of room to play with. I also liked the velvety wedge thing on the outside.

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

Unfortunately the leg part was massive. So I set about making them much cuter! (Yes I’m going to make you wait until the end of the tutorial to see the end result mwahaha build the suspense!)So first thing is first… let’s turn these suckers into knee high’s :DPut the boots on and measure how high you want them. I wanted mine to be knee high.

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

Remove the boots and cut the tops off, make sure to leave an extra inch for seams. Also make sure the zip part is at the bottom of the boot so you can still use it!! From this point on you should be careful when using the zip that it doesn’t fly off the end!

Oh and just for the record, they are not this shiny/cheap looking in person, they are actually a nice matt black but to show the details and stitching I had to use a lot of flash >_<

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

Now put the boots back on (carefully because of the zip). As you can see, they are not form fitting at all. I have drawn where my actual leg is over the top of the picture ^_^ The main thing I want to do is fit them around my ankles and calves.

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

Let’s get going!

Most boots have seams up the front and the back, by changing this seam you can very easily change the entire shape of the boot!

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

Move the lining away from the seams and unpick them down the front and back of the boot.

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

You end up with something like this:

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

Put the boot back on and pin the seams back in place in the way that you want them. Pin both the front and the back.

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

Take them off again and thread a needle. If there is any excess leather/vinyl in the seams you should trim it off now. Be careful not to trim too closely just in case you change your mind about the fit later.

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

Turn the edges of the seams inside again and re-pin them in place.

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

Now get sewing! Thread your needle and choose a stitch that matches the rest of the boot. Sew up the front and the back ^_^ If your boots are made of a heavy leather you will need a special leather needle. Mine are synthetic and quite thin so hand stitching was not a problem.

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

So this is what you end up with, the modified boot is on the left and the old one is on the right.

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

Un-modified on the left and fitted on the right. You can see the differences around the ankle and the calves.

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

Much much much better fit and more comfortable because of it.

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

Now repeat on the other boot ^_^

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

You will end up with something along these lines…

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

The last thing you should do if you’re just fitting the boots is to create a seam around the tops and prevent the zips from coming off. Do this by turning the tops inside and sandwiching the raw edges between the lining. Sew around the tops and secure the tops of the zips too. Done!

Now that’s all well and good but they are still very plain right? There are a couple of things you can do about that. I decided to use the left overs that I cut from the tops to make some cute accessories.

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

I thought about cutting it into scallops and adding a new top like this:

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

Instead I decided to recycle some old Innocent World socks ^_^

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

I cut off the lacy tops and sewed them into place on the top of the boots.

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

Lastly I used some of the left over fabric to make some little bows for the front…

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

I used black lace for the middle so they matched the new tops of the boots ^_^ I sewed them on the front and that’s it!

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

Taaaadaaaa!

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

Lovely fitted boots with bows and lace! OMG THEY ACTUALLY FIT!!

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

I think one of the things I love so much is that they are cute but not too over the top so I can wear them with so many things!

Jesus Diamate boots: $300+

Violet’s Boots: $45 plus a few hours of work

Tutorial- Modifying Boots

I am so happy with them because they are really cute and also really comfortable! I took them out for a test drive shopping today and after 2 hours walking there was no pain at all. I think I’m going to add a little bit of padding on the inside so they are like wearing slippers mwahaha!

So was it worth the wait? What do you all think? ^_^ Let me know if any of you try out the boot customization tutorial yourselves!

Lolita Drawing ^_^

Not having the internet for so long gave me lots of time to do stuff I hadn’t done in a while… like drawing!

I used to be really into doing black and white charcoal portraits so I decided to give it another try. It’s not great but considering I haven’t done something like this for like 5 years I’m quite happy ^_^

I actually enjoyed doing it so much I’m thinking of doing a series of them or perhaps portraits of my favorite bloggers or something like that, what do you think?

Artwork

I did quite a few drawings but I’ll just show you one more for now. It’s more of my regular style, frill and lace etc and done with pens and Copic markers.

Artwork

I love doing pictures like this, they are really fun! This is totally something that would happen to me too XD
