How To Make Simple Ribbon Bows ^_^
Continuing the series of tutorials on making basic bows today I’ll show you how you can make the perfect bow out of ribbon.
This is what the finished product will look like:
You need:
Firstly decide how big you want your bow to be by mocking it up with you ribbon. Cut the length you decide on and make sure to add 2cm extra for seam allowance. Use your lighter to lightly melt the edges of the ribbon so they don’t fray. BE VERY CAREFUL YOU DON’T BURN YOURSELF. Fold your ribbon like this with the edges overlapping in the middle… Use you needle and thread to running stitch from the bottom to top. Make sure to tie it in a knot in the beginning so it doesn’t pull through Now pull the thread and your bow will fold up on itself. Tie your thread off securely. Now to add the bottom tail, measure how long you want it by folding like this: Again knot the thread and running stitch up the folded tail like this: Pull the thread tight and tie it off: Sew the tail behind the bow part ^_^ Cut another piece of ribbon that is long enough to wrap around the middle of the bow plus 1cm. Fold the sides of the ribbon like this and seal the edges with the lighter. Wrap the piece around the middle of your bow. Stitch it in place ^_^ Cut the tails into what ever shape you like, I prefer them with “v”‘s cut out. Seal the ends with the lighter again and you’re finished! You can experiment with all different ribbons, I like to add a darker colour on top like this one: Simple and very quick to make! You can add a bobby pin or brooch back or whatever to the back to attach it to hair/clothes or anything you like. Hope you’ve enjoyed this tutorial! |

DIY Customised Plain Sneakers!
Morning everyone! After talking about it for quite a while Valerie and I have decided to make Sneaker Sunday a fortnightly thing (every second week for the Americans reading 😉 ) We decided to post about it less so we have more time to come up with awesome tutorials and fun things for you guys!
Let’s make this…
From this:
Pretty cute right?Well what you need is this:
So you need to find something that inspires you for the design. I’m using a piece of sticky leopard fabric from The Sticker Monster. So first thing’s first, take the laces out 😀 Practice drawing your design on a piece of paper before you do it on the shoes. I’m doing leopard print so I started by drawing the inside blobs in light purple. Make sure to make them odd sizes, if they are all completely even it will look very unnatural. Pastel pink and purple leopard print is of course very natural 😉 Add in a pink background around the blobs. Then add a dark purple border around the blobs. The border should be broken up and rough. Like this: Finished the back part 😀 Now the front. I decided to draw a swirly ribbon that ends in a heart. You should draw your picture in the lightest colour you have, I used light pink for the heart and light purple for the ribbon. I then outlined in a darker pink/purple. Lastly I added shading with a very dark colour. Shadows are very important in giving simple designs like this depth ^_^ I found a white paint pen laying around so I used it to add a couple of highlights. to the ribbon. I also added some small dots around the ribbon. And you’re done! Nice and simple and it doesn’t take long at all! Close up: I am quite pleased with the end result! I also love the idea that for $10 I can have sneakers that look like anything that I can pull out of my imagination 😀 Time to take them for a spin! I hope you are all having an awesome Sneaker Sunday and if you want to see what Valerie did with her sneakers just head over to her blog and check it out! |
Melbourne Snapshots!
Evening everyone and welcome to another edition of random snapshots from my life 😀
Let’s start with some out and about photos
These horse and carriage sets are everywhere in the city, some of them are really beautiful though it always makes me a little sad to see the drivers wearing Akubras >_<
Also the buildings here are really old and pretty!
Ok I think I have some kind of weird obsession with architecture so enough of that now There is a free tram which we worked out goes right from near our place to the Victoria markets! WIN! It’s mostly for tourists so it’s all old and pretty too. Catching the tram to get groceries… And here is Jameson the same day being unable to take a non-scary photo XD This was the best of 3 I took! This is my favorite stall at the Victoria Markets… the fresh pasta store! I loooooove pasta and I’ve never tasted such delicious pasta as this! Super yummy and super good, I want to learn to make my own one day. While we were taking that photo the lovely stall owner from the shop next door insisted on taking a photo of James and I together… And then one in front of his own store… And then one in front of his other store… So friendly! He was a really nice guy and his cheese store had a little model bicycle which completely working parts because of the Tour De France! I got to meet up with Vanessaat Theobroma and have awesome hot chocolate 😀 She is just the loveliest girl ever! We drank so much chocolate it was crazy! Mine was so big it came with it’s own warming stand *_* And zomg she brought me this huuuge box of presents as a welcome! My favorite part is the little foil package in the back, it grows real clovers!! I can’t wait to set it up in a window box I’m just waiting for a little warmer weather 😀 So thoughtful of her! Celesteand I went to the Round She Goes vintage markets which were very very crushingly busy and fun. Afterward one of James’ life long dreams came true… He got to visit the USA food store! He’s always wishing and fantasizing about the food from America so he stocked up on some old classics like… |
Sloppy joes >_<
Very pleased with himself:
Very unconvinced:
I’ve been doing lots and lots of crafty projects too! I’m planning to add some of the deco I’ve been doing to the Store soon, I just need to find a day free! I’ve also gotten a whole lots of new nail supplies to play with so expect more fun to come 😀
Alice made green tea shortbread and she shared it with me! Yummy! So yummy in fact that I ate them so fast I forgot to take any other photos >_<
I met up very quickly with Nittyafter she got back from Japan too…
She brought me the cutest little nail stand back from Japan for my birthday!
We met at my very favorite cafe ever the N.Lee Bakery Cafe.
The owner saw us taking photos of each other and as they were closing up he ushered us behind the counter so we could take photos pretending to be baristas! How insanely nice is that?? He took a whole bunch of photos for us and the staff there are always so nice.
They make delicious hot chocolate and the large which is maaaasive is only $3.80 😀
James has been doing lots and lots of baking now that his parents brought down the bread maker. His favorite at the moment is pizza but he makes the dough from scratch *_* Way too much effort for me!
On the way home from the Koko Black meet we spotted a wedding party with cute classic cars!
People here love to take photos, I’m used to people asking for photos because when I wore Lolita it would happen all the time. Not used to people asking while I’m wearing Hime Gyaru though! I went shopping with James’ Mum while she was visiting and when she went to the bathroom there was a line up of people taking photos with me… it was a very surreal experience! One of the ladies thought it was very odd when I asked to take a photo with her too just so I could prove to James’ Mum I wasn’t making it up! XD
On the way home I spotted the man cleaning out and maintaining the photo booth near Flinders Station… it reminded me so much of the movie Amelie I couldn’t resist taking a photo of him in pin-hole mode!! Teenage fantasy checked off the list!
I got to have a very delicious dumpling lunch with the ever beautiful Super Kawaii Mama before she jetted off to Queensland for Greasefest. I made her a set of nails as a present and she surprised me with some earrings!
And I’ll leave you now with my two favorite snacks at the moment.
It may just be a cheap home brand but this caramel hot chocolate is seriously awesome! I like it with whipped cream 😀
And I’ve been eating lots of the little green tea/chocolate bites. Healthy diet as always XD
I hope you enjoyed these snapshots from the last few weeks, what have you all been up to?
Neutrogena Make Up Remover Review
Make up remover should be one of the *most* important weapons in your make up arsenal. It’s especially important when you have skin as temperamental as mine.
I was recommended Neutrogena Oil Free Eye Make Up Remover by Super Kawaii Mama.
I bought mine at Priceline but you can get it at supermarkets too, it costs around $7 if I remember correctly. The bottle is nothing special, I personally prefer pump bottles but because you have to shake it it wouldn’t really work in a pump.Inside there are two separate liquids on floating on top of each other. The best way to describe it is oil and water but seeing as it’s oil-free it’s clearly not XDYou’re supposed to shake it up and put it on a cotton pad, it pretty much has the consistency of water and you can’t really see it in the below photos… The smell is nice… in that it doesn’t smell like anything and that’s how I prefer removers. It doesn’t have that heavy cosmetic smell either which I’m very pleased about. |
This is me after I’ve removed my eyelashes. You press the wet cotton on your eyes and (very important) leave it there for around 5 seconds.
With one swipe to the side this is what came of:
With 3 stripes I managed to get everything off my eye. Much quicker than anything else I’ve used!
I quite liked the feeling afterward as well, it was kind of like a very expensive moisturizer XD I don’t really have any negative points at all, I really liked it and it’s one of my every day products now! Yay for having friends with good taste in make up products XD
Verdict: Cheap, quick, works very well and leaves a nice feeling. DO WANT!
Congratulations Stargirl Heuser!!!
Ok so the votes have all been tallied and as you can guess from the title, the winner of the competition is Stargirl Heuser!
