Simple Twisted Bun instructions
This is pretty much the simplest hairstyle I know.
it’s great for summer or covering the fact that you haven’t washed your hair in a while.
Brush out your hair and clip back any bits you want to keep down like your fringe.
Brush it up into a very high ponytail and secure with a hairband.
Pull the ponytail out to the side and twist it backwards.
Brush it to make the end result smooth or leave it messy so it’s bigger.
Curl it around the base of the ponytail until you run out of hair.
Secure with a couple of pins and tuck in the ends.
Add a pretty comb or clip to finish.
You could add a ribbon or coloured extension to the twist for an extra point of interest as well.
I hope this was a useful video, please check out the blog post linked in the description for more information and tutorials.
Thanks so much for watching.

How To Colour Synthetic Hair Extensions

So yesterday I talked about dyeing real hair, today it’s about synthetic! I seem to have a problem accumulating hair extensions… but they never actually match my hair colour >_< For example recently I was part of a test group for some Lady Jane extensions but none of them matched my hair at all. So for years I’ve been searching for a way to dye synthetic extensions different colours. Everywhere I looked said that it wasn’t possible because synthetic hair isn’t poreous like real hair so dye doesn’t take… you know what does take though?

Permanent markers…Colouring-Synthetic-Hair-Extensions-VioletLeBeaux_4126_8707So after yesterday’s fun with the dye it was time to have some more colourful fun!Colouring-Synthetic-Hair-Extensions-VioletLeBeaux_4115_8696

All of the ones I got were curly so I first straightened them all out. These ones are able to be used with styling tools but double check yours are if you’re going to try this because having melted extensions=really sucky.

Colouring-Synthetic-Hair-Extensions-VioletLeBeaux_4118_8699

Pick out the colours you want to use, I used a mixture of Sharpies and Copic markers in various shades to do a gradient…. surprise 😉

Colouring-Synthetic-Hair-Extensions-VioletLeBeaux_4133_8714

Start coloring in from the tips, switch markers often and use light strokes so they blend together well.

Colouring-Synthetic-Hair-Extensions-VioletLeBeaux_4128_8709

Keep adding more colours until you’re at the top, use the lightest colour to blend them together.

And you end up with something like this. Make sure it dries properly then you can give it a brush through and style it as normal. The pens coloured but didn’t leave any residue so it’s effectively just like dying. I even heat styled them after with no problem at all.

Colouring-Synthetic-Hair-Extensions-VioletLeBeaux_4132_8713

I made mine more on the orange side so they blended in with the colour of the extensions better. I’m considering going over the entire things with pink to darken them even more. Of course you can’t make dark extensions lighter but this is a fun way to make use of extensions you probably wouldn’t otherwise be able to use. I’m going to curl the hell out of these and make them into a gigantic hair piece to add to up dos for extra variation and volume. Photos when I finish it!

So there you go, it is posible to colour synthetic hair extension just not with traditional methods ^_^

My New Pink Hair Dye Routine and Paint Box Dye Review

So as I’ve mentioned here before, my Wakk Stain pink dye was discontinued so I had to switch. The brand I switched to was Paintbox which is made by Fudge. I’ve been using the “Pretty Flamingo” pink to trial different types and techniques to find what was the best replacement. In fact when I decided to keep using it I may have panicked slightly and bought several tubes just in case *it* was discontinued too because that’s the kind of luck I’ve been having lately!

I coincidentally met the PR rep for the company at the Secrets Shh event and apparently they had been sending my photo around their office because they liked my hair so much XD She offered to send a couple of the other colours for me to try out and that was how I came to my new gradient routine!

So these are the colours which arrived in my mail box, left to right: Whiter Shade of Pale, Pink Moon, Gold Finger, Pretty Flamino (which I was already using).

And this is my result using them all:

They also sent a handy mixing guide which shows which shades you can blend to get different colours.Previously my routine had consisted of twisting and manually blending the pink into different shades like in the video I did on it. Works like a charm as long as you have a very forgiving colour. When I switched to Paintbox it became harder to do because the dye is a different consistency and stains the second you get it on the hair. I found I had to dilute it with conditioner to make it easier to work with for the gradient. Still worked very well but because Pretty Flamingo was such a bright colour, making the fade effect was a bit more effort than I was used to from the others. So I was interested to see the different in using “Whiter Shade of Pale” than conditioner for diluting, I’m not really sure what I was expecting but it worked really well and made it a lot easier to blend the 3 colours together as well as move them around on the hair while controlling how much stain actually went on. I would definitely repurchase it because I found it better than conditioner. That said, if I didn’t have the money or I ran out and desperately needed to do my hair I would still use conditioner as a stop gap solution because the dye goes on so much better than by itself.

Lasting power is longer than the Wakk Stain too. Previously if I was washing my hair every 3 days the dye would have noticeably faded within 7-10 days. Now it lasts 2-3 weeks before I feel I need to redo it, it also fades to nicer pastels so I could easily leave it longer and still like the colours.

Affordability-wise the tubes are around $14 from Priceline and considering how much I dilute them to get the pastel effect they last forever. Even when I was using just one colour, and with my gigantic amount of hair, a tube would last me around 4 months+ so I think it’s reasonable.

So more importantly, how did I mix up the colours together? I wanted to do my same gradient but just give it a bit more depth so I basically touched up the orange at the bottom and used the Pink Moon so smooth the lines of the gradient. This was the colour order:

And crappily Photoshop blended so you get the general idea:

I won’t be taking you into the shower with me so here’s a step by step example using a hair extension 😉

Squeeze some of each of the colours and some of the mixer on to a plate. I just use my hand when I’m in the shower.

Pink Gradient Hair Paintbox Dye Review

Wet and brush through the hair so there are no tangles.

Pink Gradient Hair Paintbox Dye Review

Mix the orange into a pastel tone, it should be bright but not too bright, I used 1/3rd dye to 2/3rds mixer. Apply the orange to the bottom.

Pink Gradient Hair Paintbox Dye Review

Mix the Pretty Flamingo with mixer, it’s already really bright so 1/5th dye to mixer. Blend it into the orange really well with your fingers and continue upwards. These extensions aren’t my colour so it all looks a bit dark but you can get the idea!

Pink Gradient Hair Paintbox Dye Review

Repeat with the Pink Moon but because this is a fairly pastel colour use 1/3rd dye to mixer. Apply and then do the section about it diluting the pink a bit more. Mix it all in with your fingers so there are no harsh edges and then wash out.

Pink Gradient Hair Paintbox Dye Review

So you should have a nice smooth gradient like this. Of course these extensions are synthetic so the dye just washes off but in real hair it looks much better! Speaking of dying synthetic extensions, tomorrow’s post is how I actually coloured these ones permanently ^_^

Pink Gradient Hair Paintbox Dye Review

And here’s the end result on real hair…

Pink Gradient Hair Paintbox Dye Review

So overall, the stand out colour for me was Pink Moon, it’s a much bluer pink and so when it’s diluted it gives the most beautiful colours. I didn’t fall in love with Gold Finger but that was just personal colour preference. I’ve decided going forward that I want to keep a small amount of orange at the tips but mostly concentrate on the pastel of Pink Moon and use Pretty Flamingo to deepen the shade and give definition to the bottom half. So I would definitely continue purchasing Paintbox colours, yay for finding a good replacement!

That said, everyone and their dog has pink hair these days so maybe I’ll do something completely normal and go dark brown or something 😉

Actually what I *really* want to do once in my life is dye my fringe into a pastel rainbow! That’s something I’m a bit too scared to attempt myself though so I’m waiting until I can actually afford to go to a salon. Sometimes I think it would be totally nice to actually go to a salon for everything and have a whole pampering make over XD Do you guys cut/dye your own hair too or do you get yours done at a salon?

Sleek Side Ponytail Hair Instructions
Today I’m doing my twist on the standard side ponytail.
Grab a small section from the top on one side and brush over to the other side.
Grab a little more from the side and pull it all around to the back.
Twist it slightly so it has a little volume and pin in place.
You can see the twist better from the back.
Pull the rest of your hair around to the same side and into a low ponytail.
There are plenty of ways you can finish it off, my two favorites are wrapping a little hair around to cover the band.
Or use a stretchy pearl choker as a hairband.

Looped Plaited Hair Tutorial For Spring
Today I’m doing a really simple style that looks really effective: looped plaits!
Brush out your hair and separate into two even sections.
Starting just above your ear plait holding it a little away from your head so it sits out.
Roll the end of the plait up and under the start.
Pin it in place.
Take the end of the plait and push it into the start so the loose end is completely hidden.
Add more pins if you need.
Repeat on the other side, start with the plait.
Some versions of this style use a hairband at the top but I prefer pins because it makes the loops a lot rounder.
Don’t forget to hide the ends of the plait and pin it very securely.
This is what it looks like from the back.
Add some embellishments like a headband or flowers.
All done!
This style is good for a casual look or even a classic Lolita style if that’s what you’re going for.

How To Do A Braided Summer Updo
Welcome to another episode of Styling Celeste where I try out random hairstyles on my unwitting victim. lovely friend Celeste.
Today’s style is a plaited updo.
First brush and part the hair into two sections.
Celeste’s hair has purple streaks from when we were playing with Illamasqua pigment.
Plait each side.
Pippi Longstockings ahoy!
This part is pretty boring so don’t be surprised if your friend seems to be dozing off a bit.
Pin the plaits to the top of the head overlapping.
See the description for a link to a full tutorial.
It helps to have a very cooperative model.
She looks like an adorable marionette, who could resist being puppet master? Mwahaha.
For decoration you can use anything, the more flowers the better.
And here is the cute end result.
Of course having a cute hairstyle gives you licence to do silly poses!
