I love when good people’s hard work pays off. This is one of those times, I’ve known Kaz from her blog Pretty Random online for years and she is so nice, her posts are hilarious and she does awesome nail polish swatches. Anyway fast forward to a while ago and she announced that she was going to be launching her own line of cosmetics. A cosmetics line which took her massive amount of knowledge from testing other people’s products into account. She and I have very similar taste when it comes to polish so it was at that point that the drool started forming on the side of my mouth.
Then she started posting swatches of her samples and I was so excited that I started throwing money at my computer screen and hoping some of that glittery goodness would magically appear on my desk. Funnily enough with her store not open yet that didn’t work XD However she did contact me a few weeks ago and offer to send some samples over for me to try so YAY that!
Everything was packaged in cardboard boxes and bubble wrapped. Matching purple tissue paper in the box too. Nothing damaged in transit.
Opening up the packaging, I received the matching CGU set of lipgloss, nail polish and loose eyeshadow. It’s a light purple base with blue shimmer. Did I mention that all of the names are nerdily inspired? The first collection is called “Hello World” mwahaha. As always promised I would be completely honest in the review regardless of being friends, luckily my expectations of awesomeness were not disappointed.
Everything is Vegan friendly, cruelty free and the polishes are also Big 3 free as well as formaldehyde resin free.
So let’s go one by one with these. The package of 3 is currently $26.85 or they can be bought individually on the site.
Lipgloss-
Packaging is plain and plastic, the lid is a little light but the overall weight is nice. The size is a tiny bit wider than most of my other glosses so I think it’s good value. Only complaint I have there is that it’s got one of those tops that wipes most of the gloss off the applicator. They are fairly standard though so can’t complain and I just popped the white part off the top so it comes out more smoothly.
It was extremely difficult to get a decent swatch of the lipgloss, it’s very sheer in that it provides only a slight wash of light purple with slight blue shimmer. You can definitely tell it’s shimmery in the light but capturing it on film not so much >_< I prefer more opaque coverage so my favorite way to wear it is layered over a matte lipstick for extra shimmer.
The formula is very different to a lot of other glosses, going on it actually feels like a creme lipstick. I don’t know how to describe it other than velvety… but liquid velvety… and not sticky so my hair just kind of slides off rather than getting stuck in it. The smell is something that one really has to experience as well. It is the EXACT smell of grape HubbaBubba. That could be a good or bad thing considering it made it really hard not to lick >_>
Loose Eyeshadow-
The loose eyeshadow powder is beautiful, this close up will give you a better idea of the blue shimmer’s real colour.
The powder is smooth and the glitter isn’t scratchy which makes for a very nice application both wet and dry. Dry it gives a very subtle shimmer and is beautiful on every day looks. Wet is where this really stands out because it looks AMAZING. Very pigmented and shimmery but still easy to blend with other colours. I have added this to my “most used” drawer which is saying something because I find loose powder in general less convenient than pressed. It’s a very big jar for the price so I’m thinking of pressing some myself to add into my every day and travel palettes, that’s how much I like it XD
I’ve got some nice FOTD photos coming up in an outfit post using it but until then you might like to see this live version of Morning Make Up that I did for a daily vlog where I apply it wet.
Nail Polish-
And lastly the polish! Seeing as Kaz is a renowned polish blogger I expected big things from this and I wasn’t disappointed. My swatch today will be modeled by the lovely James… because he was dumb enough to sit next to me and be engrossed in his game :D Poor James!
The bottle is square which I prefer as they store more easily, the lid is matt black plastic and the brush is standard. Drying time was also standard.
Anyway you can see that with two coats it dries to a pink based purple and again the blue shimmer isn’t over powering at all. The formula was flawless and smooth, opaque with one coat but I did two to get a real depth of the shimmer. Overall this is a winner too and I’d really like to bust out my brushes and Konad to see if this would work with it. I haven’t used the Konad in so many years >_<
So overall?
I love the idea of matching collections like this. This probably isn’t a surprise considering how much I love matching everything. I found no major flaws in the collection and the quality is above what usually comes in this price range in Australia. Friendship aside I wouldn’t hesitate to buy this again or the rest of the collection.
Mostly this collection really inspires me, it’s awesome to see good things come from nice people. It sounds soppy but I know how hard Kaz worked on this and it gives me hope that if I work just as hard that maybe my projects (like Bergamot) will turn out equally awesome. I can’t wait to buy some of the rest of the collection (hello Birthday Money!) and to see what she comes out with next. *cough*youshouldtotallymakeapinkglitter*cough*
Today is a special Food Friday, instead of doing a regular post I’m very pleased to be able to review some items from Non-Dairy Confectionery!
Non-Dairy Confectionery is a sweets deco jewellery and accessorie shop on Etsy run by the lovely Sara. I’ve been talking to Sara via email for almost a year now as she’s been a reader here. I’ve been a fan of her work since I first saw photos of her creations so long ago so when she told me she was opening a shop I was really excited to see more of her work and add it to my “to-buy” list. She was way ahead of me though and was nice enough to post me a care package, I felt so special when I picked up the package from the post office :D
Shipping: Around 14 days, which is standard airmail from the US to Aus. Packed in a very cute satchel which had deco tape and drawings all over it. Everything was wrapped well and nothing broke on the way over, very happy with the shipping.
So what did I get?
4 adorable rings, a case for my iphone and whipped cream earring studs.
First off the iphone case!
The design is built on a clear hard plastic iphone case which fits snugly over my phone and doesn’t make it bulky. I was concerned that the icecream scoops would make it bulky and heavy and but it’s very light and I honestly don’t notice a weight difference with it on or off the phone. It still fits in the phone pockets of my bag too so not bulky either. Double plus!I love the design, the fact that it’s totally custom and has a gigantic V in it makes me a very happy girl :D The whipped cream is piped evenly and the peaks are all very well formed. all of the food items are so realistic, especially the icecream which is very hard to do.
Overall I love this case! The cream doesn’t attract dirt like some other cream products I’ve had, it does well being left in my handbag and the design is super cute ^_^
Interestingly all of these pieces surpassed my expectations in durability too. That’s one of the things that I always worry about with sweets jewellery because if it’s not well made with the right materials it can be hard to keep clean and be quite delicate. Sara mixes her own blends of clays and I can really see the difference that it makes here because compared to other pieces I’ve had in the past these have really held up!
Next the rings!
Each ring is on an adjustable metal base which has a two band design.
The deluxe icecream ring is the most detailed out of the bunch and features chocolate topping, whipped cream, a waffle and sprinkles. I would actually quite like to eat this in real life also :D Out of the bunch this one has gotten the most attention when I’ve worn it. In fact I was in Sydney for a photoshoot a couple of weeks ago (more on that as soon as I’m allowed to talk about it!) and I happened to be wearing this one, the stylist spotted it and was so excited that she asked me to wear all of them in the shoot! I can’t wait to post some of the photos from that, it’s going to be awesome!
Anyway this is definitely the show stopper of the group :D
Something about the colours and design is just adorable and because it’s not massive I found it easy to incorporate into outfits. It’s quite simple at first glance but it really tops off outfits well. Lots of these are featuring in up coming outfit photos :D
Next up is the whipped cream and orange ring. The whipped cream part is squishy and flexible. Again from being in Sydney that day I can attest to how durable these are because I was rushing around so much at the end that I just threw them all in my bag and forgot about them. They were in the front section without any protection and got bumped and crushed quite a bit on the plane home but when I unzipped it not one of them was even a little damage *_* It’s some kind of magic I tell you!
Lastly but not least the strawberry heart ring! This is awesome for people who love sweets but don’t like to dress in such an over the top way because it’s adorable but it’s quite subtle.
Lastly the whipped cream studs… well I would love to show you a photo of these but when I changed out of them in Sydney I think I left them on the hotel room bench ;_; The same quality goes for them though, squishy whipped cream, durable and cute design. I can’t believe how stupid I was to forget them, this is what happens when I only get 4 hours sleep! Even if I don’t have a photo, they look very similar to the whipped cream above minus the orange slices. Super cute so a plus for me on these too.
So overall thoughts? Everything is very well made, Sara clearly knows her materials well and works with them expertly. Durable and there are options for big over the top stuff as well as more understated pieces. With rings at around $10 and phone cases $25-40 the prices on her etsy store are very reasonable in my opinion especially when you consider the amount of work that goes into things like this. I love the designs and I didn’t find anything bad about them.
I would absolutely buy from this store and I’ve mentally put a whole lot of other things from Non-Dairy Confectionery on my buying list :D She’s been posting hair accessories and headphones on her tumblr lately so I can’t wait for more of them to make it to the store :D
Long time no round up! I didn’t even realise it was Christmas this weekend, where on earth has December gone?! I haven’t even started getting presents yet… FAIL! Lots of crafting this week though to make up for it :D
And I’ve almost finished making the basic hime gyaru dress for the tutorial you guys have been asking about for years now… so hurrah!
A lot of people have asked if I will be selling the little Bergamot bunnies. The answer is YES. I am hand sewing the first few batches and that takes time. The first lot will go up for sale on Wednesday (my time) and there will be 11 of them. So if you want one keep an eye out for the announcement here. They take quite a bit of time to make so I’m not sure how long it will be between batches at the moment.
Obviously I won’t be able to post them in time for Christmas (unless you’re in Melbourne and want to arrange pick up) but this lot will come with a downloadable form which you can print and give on Christmas if you’re buying as a present for someone.
Depending on the demand I may open a pre-ordering system for the next batch but I’m not sure on that yet, any suggestions or requests are welcome!
Even though I haven’t been updating daily here (which is going to change now we’ve got the net back) I have been doing my daily V-Logs. I have 18 days up and running so far, I think we left off last time at day 5 so here’s the rest so far including lots of scenic views of our trip to Queensland! Hopefully you guys enjoy James and I arguing and making fun of each other because there’s a lot of that!

Also here are all of the beauty reviews that went up while I was away:
Right! I think that’s enough from me for now, I have to run to the post office and see if I can express some presents *_* I may just give up and send them all next week so I have more time to make them thoughtful.
As promised yesterday another review from Vanity Box! This time it’s including my now all time favorite bb cream.
This is the group of products that Kean sent me. They’ve just added the brand Peripera to the site and I’d heard a little about it before but not enough to have an opinion.
The packaging is beautiful, the lighting here turned it all gold but it’s actually all pink and silver so it looks awesome on my vanity table :D The addition of lollipops and mentos was also extra win haha!
The nail polish was the first thing that I tried. It’s a coral tinted orange and the formula is very buttery. It was opaque in one coat but two coats gave the best finish. I loved the formula but wasn’t a fan of the colour. It just didn’t look good with my pink skin but I think it would look good on someone with yellow undertones.
VERDICT: So I wouldn’t buy this colour again because it doesn’t go with my skin but I would definitely look into the others available.
I can’t seem to find this on the site for a listing or price unfortunately.
Now the bb cream, I was SO happy with the finish on this one.
Since The Face Shop discontinued my favorite bb cream I’ve been hunting for a new one but so far everything has either been too dark or yellow. The colour of this one is PERFECT. I am using the lighter shade “Light Beige”. The main features of this cream are SPF 50+, aloe extract and some vitamins to make skin extra smooth.
The finish is quite matte and the formula was very buildable depending on how I applied it. With a sponge it was light coverage, brush it was full and fingers were medium. I love the versatility of it and the face that it gave varying freckle coverage depending on how I applied. The site claims it lasts up to 24 hours and while I wouldn’t wear my make up that long I can vouch that it lasts all day and didn’t make my skin feel at all dry after. I haven’t noticed any improvement in my skins texture etc when not wearing it but it makes it look very fresh and pretty on.
The price makes me SO happy too, The Face Shop’s creams are around the $40 mark so this even with shipping is so much cheaper and in a much larger tube. I estimate that a tube of this would probably last me around a year. The tube is very pretty too, a very cute design and I prefer tubes like this because they store easily and are hygienic. I think this is the first time I haven’t had one negative thing to say about a bb/foundation XD
This is officially my HOLY GRAIL of bb creams.
Verdict: YES, DO WANT. Great texture, lasts well, good coverage.
Again the packaging on this one is beautiful, it’s a metallic pink tube with pink lace stamped on it. The formula is smooth and glides on easily. The pigmentation is a little odd because while it looks VERY bright in the tube one swipe leaves barely any colour behind. You can build it (seems to be a theme among all of the Peripera products) to be a very bright colour but that took a few times going over. I think this would be useful for people going from office jobs to out at night, during the day using one application and then at night darkening it up a bit.
VERDICT: Overall I really liked the colour and forumla and I would definitely look at more in the range.
This photo is 3 swipes:
The overall favorite of the bunch was definitely the bb cream which works perfectly for my skin and if you have similar skin to mine definitely check out Vanity Box for the new Peripera range.
This week I uploaded the tutorial on how to do that twisted updo thingy that I wore during that pearl and lace comb tutorial back here. I am planning to take photos for photo versions of a lot of these tutorials this afternoon for those who can’t watch the videos/prefer photos. Hopefully they should be up later this week.
I also edited a mini V-Log on the day James got his camera a few months ago. He is adorable, and totally paid me back by filming me getting my new camera/early Christmas present on Friday so I guess I’ll have to put that up too haha!
As I mentioned last week I’m planning to do daily V-Logs through December but those will be edited less and probably shorter than my previos ones. I’m going to keep doing the longer ones too just not every day.
Also I’ve moved my beauty reviews to their own version of the site so click through any of the links below to check it out. This new beauty section won’t change anything here and if you want to follow the daily reviews you’ll need to subscribe there. Yay!
Now back to taking photos for me :D I lost a lot of the footage and photos for the scarf knitting tutorial so I’m going to refilm that today and finish up on the basic hime dress tutorial I was making too. I deco’d my new camera over the weekend too so now I want to make a matching strap too, photos soon! So many photos soon hahaha!
