BLONDE Hair and new nails :D

Yes that’s right I’m blonde now… I finally took the plunge!

All I’ve got at the moment are crappy cell phone pics because I was sick all weekend *again*

I was aiming for Ageha caramel blonde. It looks a lot lighter than this in the light…

Unfortunately after bleaching for an hour and a half the black tips were so strong that they are still dark brown, it looks like cool gradation though… so hmm… I totally cant decide whether
I like it or if I want to just dye it back to red again. So I’ve created a poll for you to vote on in my left side bar 😀

Please excuse me looking like death, I was so sick and snotty!Yay or nay?

Now on to my new nails! This is a Japanese technique called “paving”. Basically it’s a silver base coat and then covered in various sized jewels.

Very time consuming.

But I really love how it turned out!

Zomg where did my nails go? They’re camouflaged!

What did you all do over the weekend? I would love any tips you all have for blonde hair!

Decoden Mask- How to look stylish while being terribly ill…

So as I’m sure you all know by now I’ve been sick with the icky flu for the last week or so… Well I’m not one to sit around and do nothing while I’m feeling gross. When I’m feeling my worst I cheer myself up by trying to look my best!

Now as you’ve probably seen everyone is freaking out about the H1N1 Swine Flu. Personally I think that people are over reacting, I mean last year the normal flu killed 3,000 people in Australia, so far Swine Flu has only killed 2 and they were both very sick with other things beforehand.

Either way I don’t think it demands that people wear flu masks everywhere and cancel large events but people are panicking so in the event of being forced to wear these I decided to make mine pretty!

A little bit of glue, a couple of jewels, some ruffled chiffon from a Strapya lucky pack and taadaa! Creepy huh? It reminds my of something Guro Lolita would wear. The photos didn’t really capture it well but the ruffle is all along the top and a very cute shade of pink. The jewels are in the shape of a red cross inside a heart.Look I’m in a B-Grade horror film called “Creepy Princess From The Deep… Of Doom!!”Watch out or she’ll come after you while you sleep and steal your jewelery! Oooowww *dramatic music*

Well I’ve had my fun I have to get back to work. I give lots of virtual tea and chicken soup to everyone reading this who has the flu, get some rest and rug up nice and tight!

Feel better 😀

Strapya World Review (and feature news)

Japanese export site Strapya World Review.

Hello everyone and welcome to my first shop review! Be warned this is a big post with LOTS of pictures. I thought long and hard about which shop to review first but all the online spending that my K-Rudd Stimulus Money let me do gave me an idea! Everyone is always asking where I get my deco supplies from so here is a review on…

Strapya World!

Now a little background info:

Shop- Strapya-World Url- https://www.strapya-world.com/index.html Location- Japan

Products- Decoden supplies, little fake foods, cell phone straps, Disney and Hello Kitty accessories, random Japanese kitschy junk.

Prices- Well it’s a bit hard to compare as it depends on the exchange rate. Prices are in Japanese Yen. You’re paying more than you’d actually pay in Japan but most of the prices are still quite reasonable as long as your exchange rate doesn’t suck as hard as the Australian Dollar.

Service- I have ordered with Strapya a couple of times and each time the service has been quite good. Items are shipped promptly and the only time I’ve had to email the response was quick and solved my problems. Note though that English is their second language so expect to have to be a little creative with reading any replies :)Shipping- Either surface mail or EMS, I always choose EMS for overseas packages because I don’t trust Australia Post. Also the EMS guy knows to ring my door bell rather than just leaving a note to go pick the package up. For some reason AusPost can’t grasp this fact. Shipping is very quick! Now some photos and more info!I placed my order on the 25th of April and it arrived at my door on the 1st of May, this included a weekend so it wasn’t posted until the 27th… effectively it took 3 working days to get here. This is what I ordered, everything arrived bubble wrapped for protection. Mostly deco supplies with one big thing… A PEARL IN A CAN! (click to be taken to the Strapya listing)

So when I read about this I thought it sounded hilarious! As you all know… I LOVE pearls so how could I pass up the chance to get my own pearl out of a real oyster in a can?! So terribly Japanese it’s awesome.

Here is my adventure with Pearl In A Can..

It comes in a cute little box with some cute Engrish on it. There are 5 colours of pearl that you can get inside and each has a different meaning, more on that later. Things get a bit messy so I would suggest you get a tray or do this over a sink! Inside the box you’ll find the can with the oyster, instructions, a little tool to open the oyster and the necklace in a little blue heart display.

Make sure you read the label… apparently you shouldn’t eat the oyster… I don’t know who would be dumb enough to eat an oyster floating in some kind of alcohol which has been un-refrigerated for several days in the sun… but someone obviously was because there are a LOT of warnings XD

Now make sure to read the instructions and get out this little tool thing.

This is the oyster. If you think it looks gross, you should wait for the smell…

Open up your can with the ring pull and try not to breathe in the over-powering vinegar/alcohol smell.

Heehee it looks silly!

Now pull it out and grab your tool (hahaha)! Wedge it into the oyster and open him up!

Look I found a pearl!!

Make sure to give it a wash and discard the oyster and can!

How cute is that?

Which colour did you get? I got Cream which apparently means success! Go me! Bring on my success! The other colours you can get are: White- Intelligence Cream- Success Pink- Health Purple- Property Black- Love

Now we’ve got the pearl you should get the little cage necklace!

Open it up and pop in the pearl!

Put it back on the necklace and there you go!

How cute is that? I think it’s a great little novelty, especially since it’s currently on sale 90% off for US$9.75. Because it comes in such a nice package it would make a really nice gift.

Of course now you’ve spent all this time making your necklace you should spend some time checking yourself out 😀 Fantastic!

Final thoughts: Strapya- Though it’s not the cheapest, the items are cute, the quality is good and there is lots to choose from. I would recommend it! Pearl in a can- Fun to play with, a good gift and a damn cute necklace in the end!

Now my 2 questions for you guys… 1. Did you like this review? Does it need more/less humor? Would you read more of these? 2. What do you think of my new hair extensions??

As an after thought to all of this, I’ve been featured on Pink Expertise! Wow it seems like I’ve gotten a lot of features lately, it’s been really lovely! Thank you all for reading my blog, you guys are so awesome!

If you want to check out the feature just click the link below 🙂 http://thelifebehindthecoach.typepad.com/pink_expertise/2009 /05/inability-to-give-up.html

Meet Ruri the decoden iphone 3g case…

Yay for deco iphone  3g case!

Heehee I finally got an iPhone! Yay lots of fun, the most fun part is deco-ing it!

What do you think? I ran out of jewels 🙁 I’ll order more soon to finish her. Her name is Ruri btw 😀 Props if you get the reference!

Do you have a deco iphone?

Oh and everyone keeps asking me what sort of glue I use for Decoden… It’s simple really so here is a mini review of all the glue I’ve tried.Clear Nail polish- Terrible, don’t even bother with this, if you want your jewels to stick on permanently. It’s great for a quick fit until you get home if one falls off.

Super Glue- Ok but tends to warp the surface of whatever you’re adding your jewels to. Again good for a quick fix but I wouldn’t bother if you want them to stay on permanently.

Self Stick jewels/sticking sheets- These tend to be ok but you should expect them to come off eventually when the jewel gets bumped around and wriggles off the sticky paper. This is the best option if you would like to change your jewels often.

Epoxy Glue- THE BEST GLUE EVER. Ok there seems to be some kind of confusion over exactly what epoxy glue is… basically it comes in two seperate tubes and you add equal parts of it together and then it hardens at varying speeds depending on what type you buy. This guy is awesome. It doesn’t damage your items, it dries clear, there are varieties with different drying times depending on how confident you are with your deco skills and I have NEVER lost a jewel after I’ve glued it. It is available from hardware stores but I get mine at the $2 store near my house.

So the winner is- Epoxy glue! Hurrah!

*Update* Readers have suggested that E600 glue might be even better than epoxy, I don’t have any but when I test it out I’ll let you all know! */Update*

Uninformative Hime Gyaru Style Acrylic Nail Tutorial…

This is a very uninformative acrylic nail tutorial.

I apologize in advance for my crappy camera work on this, it’s hard to hold a cell phone camera in one hand while doing acrylic nails with the other *_*

I am really not very good at writing tutorials but people are always asking about how I do my nails so I thought I’d give it another go. Please note that this really is just a rough guide, it’s not comprehensive, it’s just what I do!

Onwards to the acrylic nail tutorial.

Firstly you should get all of your materials together. I get all of my things together on a tray table so I can do it on the couch and be nice and comfy.

In this picture you can see all my bits and pieces:

• Acrylic nail kit including nail tips, buffer, bush, nail glue, acrylic liquid, acrylic power, vitamin nail prep. • Moisturizer • Dapper dish (glass dish for holding the acrylic liquid) • Nail clippers • Assortment of nail polish • Cotton buds • Orange sticks • Nail polish remover • Nail buffer • Dish of water to wash hands in • Extra nail tips and old nails to get inspiration from

If you’re using a store bought acrylic kit you should always follow their instructions!

The first things that you need to do is prep your hands. Use the moisturizer and give yourself a massage, I used to have a little UFO hand massager from the Body Shop which was awesome but it’s been lost amongst my bathroom junk. If Nintento Ds taught us anything it’s that touch is good so rub away!

Now use the clippers and trim you nails so they are well shaped, you should also use an orange stick to clean under your nails and push back your cuticles if necessary. Take the buffer/sander and sand gently along the flat of the nails to get rid of ridges and roughen up the nail so the glues bond better.

Once your natural nails are all ready you should lay out all your nail tips and find one that fits each finger individually. It’s really important to get a good fit so if you can’t find one that actually fits then you should use the next biggest one and sand the edges until it does.

The edges should be able to matching up to your natural nails around 4mm from the top edge. Now following the instructions glue each nail in place. My natural nails are tiny so my tips cover most of the nail but if yours are longer then you should put them lower down.

RAWR! Witch nails!

Ok so once they’re dry then you need to trim and shape them to the length you want.

Now is the part where following your acrylic instructions is super important because sets tend to differ slightly. The general idea of what you’ll need to do is this:

– Put the nail prep liquid on the exposed nail, wait 30 seconds and apply a second coat, wait 2 minutes. Be sure not to put it on the fake nail!

– Pour some acrylic liquid into the dapper dish. Dip your brush in, wipe the excess on the side and the put the tip of it into the acrylic powder.

– Move it around in a circle so you create a little melted ball on the end of the brush. Apply that ball to your nail and wipe it into the nail in long strokes until smooth. Apply more balls until you have covered the whole nail. It should have a smooth finish but don’t worry too much about small bumps because you can sand them out afterward. If your trying it for the first time don’t give up! My first nail was terrible and lumpy! It takes a little practice but you’ll get it in the end!

– Now wait a few minutes for the acrylic to dry. To tell if they’re dry tap them together and if it sounds like nails then you’re done! You can now sand and shape any bumpy bits with your emery board. Here are my finished nails.

Ok so you’ve got the nice acrylic base to work on now, lets get decorating!

At this point I usually clear off the table of anything I won’t need such as the acrylic kit and I lay out everything I need for decorations such as specific nail polishes and jewels. I put paper towel down before I sort loose jewels so nothing gets lost.

For the design I’m showing you today you will need: • Light pink nail polish • Clear nail polish • 10 white pearls gems • 20 pink pearl gems • Light pink loose glitter • Lots of small pink diamantes depending on how big your nails are. • Nail polish dryer is optional but effective

First give your nails a coat of pink. Depending on the brand you have you may need up to 4 coats to get a nice smooth finish. If you want to apply a base coat or primer coat go ahead before the pink. Once the pink is completely dry take your clear polish and paint a diagonal triangle across each nail as shown my the red in the picture below.

While the clear is still wet dip the nail into the pot of glitter. It helps to do each nail one at a time so the polish doesn’t dry too quickly. Once you’ve dipped each nail and they’re dry, take the cotton bud and wipe away any wayward glitter. They should look like this:

Now do another coat of clear over each nail to seal in the glitter perfectly.

Once that is dry get together all of your jewels and pearls.

Violet’s tip 1. Picking up the jewels to place them can be hard especially if you have a round jewel and are using tweezers. My tip is to use a matchstick with some old blue tac that has lost most of it’s sticky. It’s strong enough to pick everything up but as long as you don’t press too hard it will leave the jewel behind on the tacky polish.

You should paint a line of clear along the diagonal line on the first nail and place a white pearl in the middle, then place a pink pearl on either side and fill in the gaps to the sides of the nail with small pink gems to complete the line. Make sure to press down the jewels into the nail polish with an orange stick so they stick nicely.

Wait for that to dry and then clear coat over the top of everything for a final seal.

Viola! Cute Hime style nails!

Violet’s tip 2. If you’re worried about things falling off you can do another clear coat the next day.

About Decoden…

A little about decoden

I freaking love deco! It’s one of my favorite pass times right now. Here are some of my creations and tips, at the bottom are some decoden designs that I love, want or want to make myself!

Decoden or Keitai (when referring to cell phones) is basically the art of sticking gems/random cute stuff to every smooth surface of any item you own.

Keitai means mobile/cell phone in Japanese and when used in this context refers to jewel encrusted phones but you really can deco anything with enough room to fit a gem. Some other common items to deco include cameras, Ds Lite, fingernails, or if you’re me then anything that holds still long enough! Look out James, sleep with one eye open!So what’s the point? Well it’s the same as any decoration really: it’s pretty.

Deco is popular among many demographics, from Lolita and Hime Gyaru who appreciate the details and over-the-top-ness to Japanese housewives who love something cute in their lives. It can be classy and slightly subtle or crazy detailed and yummy or plain old ridiculous! Here are a couple I’ve done! You can order supplies from Strapyaworld and this Deco Livejournal community is awesome for inspiration. if you live in Japan you can also go to Glam Baby to have the “experts” do it for you (all for a modest fee of course).

Here are a few tips if you decide to be creative and give it a go:
-If you want your gems to stick permanently then make sure to use epoxy glue. Only if you don’t ever plan on changing them though, that stuff is like nails! Epoxy glue is known by different names depending on which country you live in but it’s distinguishing feature is that it comes in a set of two tubes which you mix together with a stick and then apply to the surface. It comes in 2 varieties one which dries in 5 min and one which dries in 1 hour, either is acceptable for use but if you don’t have much practice it might be better to go for the 1 hour variety so you have time to correct any mistakes. -Make sure that you have all your jewels and everything set out and ready before you mix the glue! I can’t tell you how annoying it is having rapidly drying glue that you’ve put on only to be searching around the bottom of the box you keep everything in looking for the one last tiny pink jewel you need to complete a design.

– Plan out your designs before you start, again running out of jewels half way through sucks!

Here are some awesome things that inspire me!
