Violet’s Watercolour Travel Diary

I always have such grand plans of relaxing when we travel. This time I went to the effort of making my own diary to paint in and everything… and barely used it because we were so busy! I am so not good at relaxing!

Beautiful-Travel-Note-Book20506

I made the book by cutting watercolour paper to size then clamping them together and gluing the spine to another piece of paper.

Once it was dry I folded the edges over and glued them down.

Then it was time to paint the outside to personalise it for the trip.

Beautiful-Travel-Note-Book10018

I went with a pink and purple gradient on the spine.

Beautiful-Travel-Note-Book10021

Then filled in the rest with a sketch of Zurich and the title.

Beautiful-Travel-Note-Book10027

Before we left I covered it in clear contact so it didn’t get dirty.

Beautiful-Travel-Note-Book10028

Of course I didn’t actually get much time to use it at all… I painted this on the first flight…

Beautiful-Travel-Note-Book20507

In fact flights were almost my only painting time >_<

Beautiful-Travel-Note-Book20509

As you can see the second leg of the journey wasn’t as glamorous as the first!

Beautiful-Travel-Note-Book20510

I’m normally fine with flying but after 21 hours of being in planes plus the 4 hours waiting around in airports plus the time we were awake before we even left our house for the first flight I started to feel a little worse for wear.

Beautiful-Travel-Note-Book20511

I had a little bit more time in Germany and managed to sketch this after our archery adventure sometime between watching How I Met Your Mother in German and drifting in and out of consciousness.

Beautiful-Travel-Note-Book20512

I managed to do this sketch while looking at the actual view along the lake which was nice haha!

Beautiful-Travel-Note-Book20513

And there ends how much I painted on the trip… Next time I swear I’m going to lay on a beach somewhere and do nothing but sip fruity drinks and paint…. next time >_>

Speed Painting Fables In Fashion

I started a speed painting series of people who inspire me last year but I didn’t have the materials or the time to keep it up. I’m starting fresh this year and redoing my first subject: FablesInFashion!

This time I forced Celina to watch me doing it so I could film her reactions > : D

Hope you enjoy it and let me know if you have any suggestions on who I should do next!

Fables In Fashion Watercolour Speed Painting

I started this series last year but it kind of fizzled as I didn’t have as much time to paint or the right supplies. I really love the idea though so I have decided to start it again with my awesome collaborator Fables in Fashion!

Violet- Hi everyone!
Hope you guys are having a good night. we’re doing something a little bit different tonight.
I started this last year where I’m doing a series of speed paintings of people that really inspire me as a way of saying thank you so much for all of your inspiration and just generally being awesome!
I got a little bit side tracked when I started this last year so I wanted to start it again.
So we’re kicking it off with Celina from Fables in Fashion! Celina is a fantastic partner in crime for shooting videos, holding lighting and….
James- Hurry up, my arms are getting tired!
Violet- Shut up James backdrops don’t talk.
James- You’re a jerk! Backdrops have feelings!
Violet: Anyway I did a quick speed painting of Celina from Fables In Fashion, from one of her recent videos.
Make sure you check out her channel, it’s Fables In Fashion and it’s fantastic. Hope you guys enjoy the video and we’ll be doing more of these soon. Hair tutorial coming next week bye!
Let’s watch their reactions.
Celina- Hey Violet
Tobias- Hello
Celina- This is so awkward, lets just watch the video. Ok I’m playing it now.
Celina- I look like I have cat eyes.
Tobias- Floaty cape
Celina- Oh like a super hero
Celina- Nah
Celina- I feel like she’s making me look a lot more elegant than I look in real life. Haha
Tobias- She’s just going off some of the fashionable photos we took
Celina- I wish i could draw
Tobias- Oh no youtube just froze
Celina- Oh there it goes again
Tobias- That’s a bit better
Tobias- Purple for you
Celina- That’s really cool, I wouldn’t be able to pick out all of these undertones and stuff, I would just be like: it’s all black
Tobias- Shading’s cool of the cape and the floating.
Celina- It is cool.
Celina- I have eyes
Tobias- Eye balls but no iris yet
Celina- That’s me!
Celina- That’s photo me and that’s drawing me
Tobias- I don’t know, I think she’s adding colour just very very gently
Celina- Oh yeah it’s really subtle
Tobias- Skin tones

Watercolours and Fashion Illustration

Some more sketches and paintings? Yeaaaaah I think so!

I’ve been really interested in fashion illustration recently so my nightly paintings have reflected that.

Here are a couple of random dresses I designed just to have something to practice with:

These are a combination of watercolours and inks.fashion-watercolor-illustrations25

I absolutely love this purple ink, it’s so amazing. It makes me want to dig up all of my inks and paint with them too.

fashion-watercolor-illustrations21

I also decided to do some fashion illustrations from famous designers to test my skills. This one is a Donna Karan piece from the Spring 2013 line.

These next two are from the Chanel 2013 Resort collection, the second and 4th in that photo.

We were in a park recently to help with some filming and I had the hardest job: guarding the expensive camera equipment while sitting and eating chips… what? It was totally hard >_> So anyway I did a little landscape painting…

fashion-watercolor-illustrations27

I also continued the series of texture studies with a few more of these paintings *_*

fashion-watercolor-illustrations12

I like this colour combination a lot. I finally got myself a pink tube so no more tedious mixing for me!

fashion-watercolor-illustrations10

And lastly, here’s one of Lottie. I’m trying to learn how to draw dogs but for some reason I find them so hard!

fashion-watercolor-illustrations02

And here’s one more in which I was testing out some salt techniques. I think the effects are really cool!

Hope you enjoyed, I’m going to buy a massive stack of paper and get some serious painting done in QLD next week. Also for those of you who asked me if I would sell any of these paintings, I thought about it for quite a while and I’ve decided to go ahead with selling both prints and originals. They will be added to my store when we get back from the coast so look forward to it!

Water Colour Nail Art

This week I’ve been in planning mode, at the end of the month we’re going to be visiting Queensland for work/a short holiday and there’s so much to schedule in! Sometimes it seems like even holidays are a lot of work XD

Water-Color-Nail-Art36

The lack of craft tutorials lately has been because I’ve been using my nights to paint… or you know, sleep like a normal person. I have a scheduled craft day this Thursday so hopefully I can start some new projects!

The painting has made me really curious though, water colours are my medium of choice so I wondered if they could make some interesting nail art.

Water-Color-Nail-Art20

The answer is yes!

Water-Color-Nail-Art23

It’s an interesting technique which can have a lot of different results, let me know if I should do a tutorial for this ^_^

Water-Color-Nail-Art26

I used a yellow base but next time I want to give the base the texture of thick art paper too.

Water-Color-Nail-Art34

And in case you were wondering, the background is from one of the pictures I’ve been working on!

I think I would like to do a lot more painting, it’s very relaxing after a very long day.

Some New Watercolour Paintings

I’ve been painting again. It seems the mood strikes once every six months or so!

cute-watercolour-artwork0014

These first two are just fairly standard but after having a terrible day, I splurged at an art store and bought some paper different than I generally use and it really inspired me to branch out into new techniques.

cute-watercolour-artwork0009

In these techniques I’m trying to be a bit freer with my painting. Less concerned with mistakes. Less of a complete control freak XD

This has been my favorite piece so far, I realised half way through that it looked a bit like Flame Princess from Adventure Time.

cute-watercolour-artwork9996

I’m trying to play more with colour and texture which I really enjoy and be less concerned with the subjects.

I love colour.

cute-watercolour-artwork0004

I’ve also been playing with different papers and cityscapes.

cute-watercolour-artwork9989cute-watercolour-artwork0007

It’s a very stressful time of year for us at the moment so it’s nice to have something that I really enjoy doing for late at night.

I’m having a lot of fun with these so hopefully the inspiration lasts! What has been inspiring you lately?
