The board game that almost ruined our relationship… Nuffnang Scrabble Competition

You guys remember the Pictionary incident right? The reason that we don’t play board games in our household? Well apparently Nuffnang thought that our relationship could stand a Round 2 because they asked me to write about Scrabble. Oh yes, Scrabble.

Scrabble has a history in this house, James’ family love it. They take it VERY seriously. I suck at anything that requires me to put letters in the correct order. I’m good with numbers but not with letters >_<

But of course we’re both very competitive and also not great at following rules… rules are for suckers. Also we both cheat. And we play Scrabble with extra points if you can make a word from an internet meme or something dirty… also we have a rule that you can put down any word as long as you can justify it’s existence.

Unfortunately that leads to scenarios like this…

  1. Sebastian was looking at me weird because I kept laughing at the pictures! Maltosgard! best word ever I am so using that in scrabble/real life all the time now…….

  2. Lols…so cute! and funny <3 Ben is better than me in scrabble and serious player too boo…so i just end up being silly ^___^;;

  3. I tried to use “yeaD” which is a word that my boyfriend and his friends use to mean ‘head’ (both of them). The only Scrabble-players I know are very serious, though, and since it isn’t in the OED or whatever they wouldn’t let me use it.

So my story doesn’t really count, but whatever.

  4. Haha Funny scrabble moment. So I take it that you are a fan of Sudoku? (a poke at the “good with numbers” quote xD) I marvel at the number of “actual words” that you both came up with. I like your policy regarding games. If you can’t win the traditional way, prove/argue your way to victory! :D

  5. It’s not a made up word, it’s actually cheating though, I turn the ‘W’s upside down and use them as ‘M’s!! LOL

My made up word would be Bindyland!!!

Great blog Violet!! You look gorgeous in these photos!!
    xx

  6. In the very unlikely but still plausible situation that I end up with 3 P’s I’d go with Papple. Because everyone loves papples. Cement it’s legitness by either telling your opponent that it has a silent first letter P or gain some sympathy for your unique lisp that adds P’s to all your palphabets.

    • I laughed SO hard at myself trying to say palphabet, James will never know what hit him next time we play :D

  7. Omg what a cute post Violet! Those pictures and the words you guys made up were hillarious! :D

  8. I’m really bad at scrabble!!
This is such a cute post!
I love the ‘I am scrabble god’ picture ahahha
and not even half of those are real words! LOL

Great post! Newt is actually a real word – they’re a type of salamander! I used to catch them and put them in little newt pools by the river with my friends – we had competitions to see who could catch the most newts, lol.

    • Haha I know of the salamander type newt, I’m not sure if animal names are allowed in official scrabble but in this context it was the name of a character in a book we’re both reading ^_^ Oh we played that game when I was a kid too except we played with toads, so gross!

I’m feeling a bit ripped off right now, for some inconceivable reason I can’t see any of the photos, but it seems that everyone else can D:

  11. I’ve been barred from playing Monopoly because I’m too competitive. True story! I miss it :( I think if I were to take pictures they’d be less cute and more like something from a zombie survival movie ;)

    Hilarious !!! Love the photo’s

Newt is an animal (at least this is what we call it in America) it’s a little lizard-y thing, somewhere between a salamander and a Gecko.

We have notowned scrabble in a long time but i do remember trying to use “flibert” as a word once i mean come on it looks like it could be a real word.
    Such a funny post too!

I love playing scrabble, and I like using words like Quartz that use up lots of high score letters or Quark which gets me WTF looks. Words like Zealot and Xylem are always good for using high score letters too.

But made up ones.. well how’s this?

xiansk – how you say thank you in “ImsodrunkIforgothowtospeakenglishproperly”-ese. I spoke a lot during my early 20′s, was very fluent.

    Really.. it’s real…
