Food Friday… sick food
I’ve been really sick this week, thus the lack of posts :( Every time I go to one of these gigantic events I always come back home with whatever bug is floating around. This time it’s some kind of nasty flu-ish thing that involved me laying next to a bowl for a long time with a cloth trying to break the fever. Very icky.
So what are your favorite foods when you’re sick? I like tea (obviously) and James has started making these frozen juice pop things because I can’t stand drinking the stuff.
Other than that I keep it simple with plain crackers and lots and lots of water. I hate chicken soup so tell me your favorites so I can get James to make for me XD
Anyway I’m going back to bed again now, will be back on top soon to show you all the fun we had at ABBW last weekend!

Sorry to hear you’re feeling icky! ): At least your condition is better than mine, I always get sick before a big event!
But whenever I’m sick, grandma’s porridge always gets me back on my feet.

More of my Vietnamese food for you. :)
Hope you get better ASAP!
Ooo I’ve only tried congee once before at a hotel, I’ll have to get James to try making it for me! Thanks so much Leanne, you are so sweet!
Something with lots of ginger, garlic and chilli is good for your immune system – maybe a curry or a stirfry? I like to drink tea made with the juice of half a lemon, a slice of fresh ginger and maybe some honey if you like it sweet :) I think cuddling a little puppy or kitten would help too ;) Hope you get better soon.
That sounds so delicious but I’ll totally take the puppy/kitten over the food :D
Tea does wonders when you’re sick, other than that…Frozen yogurt is my favorite sick food, especially if a sore throat is involved. I’m just getting over being sick, so I feel your pain. Be sure to get plenty of rest :)
Feel better soon!
Mmm frozen yoghurt is yummy! I hope you feel better too!
Aw, get better soon!
I’m feeling quite unwell too, and it’s made worse by not being able to speak too much, and guess what, I work as a teacher. :D
I usually eat soups, loads of them when ill, my fav is either spicy tomatoe, with basil, garlic and stuff. It’s basically a thin pizza sauce :D If you like hot food, you can put some chili in it, so it helps cleaning your nose. :)
My other fav is broccoli soup, but I’m a sucker for broccoli… Just cook it with some salt, pepper, and general spices. (we have these spice cubes, dunno how they are called…) What I do is I add a bit of ginger (fresh, if I have that, but powdered is fine too) so it makes the soup a bit more special, and well, ginger is also good for you when you have a cold. ^^
Oh no! That sounds horrible, I hope you’re feeling better soon too and thanks for the recipe!
Get better soon!! <3
Thanks Celina!
I hope you’re feeling better soon, sounds like a nasty one!
I like the dry cracker thing too, plus soups and toast.
Ick it seems to be going around :(
I always crave Savoury Shapes and Zoopa Doopa ice blocks when I’m sick, because that’s what my mother always served when we were ill as kids. Other than that, I’m a huge fan of vegie soup. It always makes me feel tonnes better.
Omg I looove savoury shapes and Zoopa Doopas! *relives childhood again*
I practically breathe in yoghurt when I’m sick >< I hope you feel better soon!!
Thanks Del!
hope u feel better soon!!I wasn’t feeling the greatest after that weekend too, must be the late nights and horrible weather:) It was worth it though:))
Totally worth it! It was an awesome weekend :D
Congee (rice porridge) with lots of fresh grated ginger to clear out the sinuses. Hope you feel better.
Thanks Mimo!
You really don’t like chicken soup? Not even like egg drop or wonton soup?? I like both when I’m sick and for more substance I like to make egg drop soup at home and add white rice to it. I also almost always crave potatoes when I’m sick. A plain baked potato or french fries always comforts me. I guess I’m more indulgent when I’m sick rather than trying to stay healthy. XD
I really hope you get better soon! You should be making James post while you relax! ^_~
Nooooo… well maybe wonton soup or something with noodles, I just hate plain canned soup etc, so yucky! I’ve never heard of egg drop soup, I’m off to google :D I totally love plain baked potatoes too! Yum :D Hahaha ok I’ll get James to post this week!
hmmmmm, I find I just eat plain bread when i’m ill…..i’m really bad though and act like i’m never going to get well :-P Hope you are feeling better soon!!
Haha I sulk too XD Thanks Caz!
Ugh, I hope you start feeling better soon. :(
Do you like Italian Wedding soup at all? :D That might be nice to have when you’re sick. :3 Miso soup is also nice. I like wonton soup, too, even though it can be a bit greasy sometimes.
Oh, and juice, lots of juice, particularly orange. :3
Thanks Alyssa! I haven’t heard of Italian Wedding soup, I’ll go look up a recipe! Miso soup is super yummy though :D
Last time I had a really bad flu, which was around Christmas time, I made 2 pitchers of Christmas sangria and drank the whole lot in a yummy attempt to sweat it out…didn’t work, but was fun!
Ahahahaha that sounds like a hilarious idea!
I hope you feel better soon! 7-up or Sprite are good drinks for recovering from sickness.
Thanks Susie!
Aww hope that you get better. :( Nothing is worse than being sick. I guess what I usually eat when I’m sick is congee (even though I downright don’t like the stuff). xD
XD I couldn’t force myself to eat gross things when I’m sick, I just sulk a lot haha!
When I’m really sick I don’t eat anything at all, I just drink lemonade, usually hot. When I’m feeling a bit better eat tons of curry with lots of veggies in it.
Hope you feel better soon!
Oh wow hot lemonade? That sounds so weird! James likes warm soft drinks too, I should totally try hot lemonade next time! Thanks Rosie!
Aww :’( I’m sick too!!

Aww hope you feel better soon Lily :)
Oh I feel for you! It has been the same here all week too as we wade through cold and flu. Luckily though, I made two huge pots of vegetable and barley soup earlier in the week, so that and some of that ‘bake at home’ bread for something hot and crunchy, have been getting me through. All the cold and flu tablets might explain my sequin factory shopping dreams though! :) xx <3<3
Bleh hope you’re all feeling better soon!
I’m sick this week as well! Caught something from my family when I visited them :( (they were sick as well)
I adore tea for feeling better and also hovering over a big bowl of hot water with a few drops of eucalyptus oil.
For food, I do enjoy soups like minestrone…Also lots of fruits and fruit juices. I think it helps! :)
Get well soon!
Oh yuck, I hope you’re better soon! Mmm eucalyptus oil is so nice for colds, I always have some in the house just in case.
Hello violet!
When I’m sick I always have a need for something easy and warm to eat, so I selfishly ask my bf to make hot milk with small pasta bits called “makaroni”(what it is called in Norwegian, not sure what it is in English). Sound abit weird but it helps!
Anyway I hope u get well soon, it sucks to be sick for so long! Best of wishes :)
It’s called Macaroni here too though it’s usually loaded with cheese too :D Thanks Vibeke, I get my bf to take care of me too ^_^
just stumbled across ur blog & im loving it…
get well soon :)
Oh thank you so much! I’m really glad you found me :D
Sorry to hear that, hope you get well real soon! I love a simple cup of hot honey with lemon. Yums!
I love honey and lemon drinks too!
Awwww, sorry to hear your ickyness. You know what i would prefer, my mom used to make this homemade pasta, full of vegetables and stuff. Tinge of chutney and full of lemon. Don’t make it spicy. Add butter or cream. Its taste awesome too.
That sounds so yummy!! I think I want that even when I’m not sick :D
oh no :( get well soon!
As for me I like any soup when I’m sick since hot liquids help decongestion! I especially like spicy soups like spicy kimchi and spicy shrimp. It’s super comforting too!
I’m too scared to try kimchi, it always looks so spicy!
