Deco Thread Cutter

Aug 31, 2011 by

Another deco project where the pictures speak for themselves! I knit and crochet a fair bit and even though we must have at least 10+ pairs of scissors in our house I can never find them at the right moment so I usually resort to trying to break the yarn to avoid having to get up XD Bad Violet! Last week my Mum saw me doing this and came home with a thread cutter hahaha!

Of course I had the same problem with not being able to find it when I needed it. So I decided to deco it in the most obnoxiously bright way I could think of: rainbow and cake. The end result doesn’t remotely go together well but I couldn’t care less as long as I can find the damn thing! the cake was added as it’s a piece I’ll probably never use and here it provides function as a grippy thing.

See deco can be functional sometimes too!

So onwards to the pictures…

argh i lose thing all the time !!! its so annoying

  2. I usually try to keep everything in it’s place, which has been carefully planned out and organized beforehand. My phone though, because it goes everywhere and is constantly being put down somewhere seems to be always getting lost. Of course it’s covered in giant whipped cream sweets deco so everyone’s comment is “Wow, I bet you never loose that.” -_- Reality: I loose it way more than you would think.

  3. ooh yes that’s just like me … I am working with siccors, put them down, look away to grab something else, want to grab my scissors again and bam, the’e gone! And I didn’t even get up or anything :s ugh I hate that! I think it’s a great idea to deco those things you always lose, even when the’re right in front of you! I’m going to attack my things right now with rhinestones, muhahaha! :D

  4. I just keep everything nice and tidy, and I don’t tend to lose stuff very often. It helps that I have a great memory though!

The deco is really cute though, I love love love the rainbow!

  5. Wow! That is one very bright thread cutter (with an even more brighter ribbon)! xD I bet you won’t have a hard time trying to find it now haha. You are right on the count that the colours doesn’t go well together, but I guess when you are at that point you wouldn’t care a bit.

I usually don’t have a problem finding stuff because I always put the things back in the same place that I took them from or in other words, organization. Worked like a charm. :D There are those moments where I occasionally lose a certain thing because I knocked it under the bed or what not, and forget about it until I need to use it again.

  6. I rather like the end result of it, even if the design is arguably not cohesive. XD

I lose things all the time; particularly any purse I have that contains important items, my car keys, and scissors. :| It’s a matter of me setting things down without being aware of where I actually put the stuff. X_X

    • Haha not cohesive is such a nice way to say it XD I totally know what you mean about setting things down randomly, I’m forever losing my phone like that!

  7. your blog is insane…. i mean that in the best way possible. love it!

Hello, Violet! :) Long time reader, first time commenter. I just wanted to say thank you for doing what you do. I’m sure I’m not alone. When I first discovered your blog, I wasn’t paying too much attention. It seemed like another himegyaru blog at first, “Look at me and all the wonderful stuff I can afford!” And then I actually read one of your tutorials. And then another. And then another.

And I came to respect the beautiful, resourceful and genuinely humble girl behind them. It was strange and almost unsettling to see the himegyaru aesthetic being born from such simple items; an aesthetic that’s notorious for its excesses and extravagance. You took what you had and transformed them into something that many girls would consider beautiful. You were so intelligent and charming in your tutorials, never resorting to the hapless whinging of “Oh, how I wish I had a Jesus Diamente!” like so many other gyaru bloggers. You seemed to take such joy out of being able to transform things and your tone was always warm and happy; where was the “I wish,” and “If only,”s? I realised how different you were! “It _is_ possible to be beautiful without spending $600 on a dress– That money can go towards something infinitely more precious, such as a home for a couple that are truly in love.” That’s what I heard. And you did it with such grace. You never judged those who took luxuries for granted, nor did you resent them or look down on them. You were so far above and beyond that. A true class act.

I’m humbled and inspired by your outlook to life. Thank you for blogging, Violet! You are truly a wonderful girl! I’m sure James knows how lucky he is and I wish you both all the luck in the world! I’ll always be reading!

    • Dear M, I’ve been sitting here trying to think of a way to say thank you for such a heartfelt wonderful comment but no matter how I phrase it, nothing seems like enough so I’ll be simple: THANK YOU. I honestly don’t think I deserve all of that praise but I really appreciate you giving it to me! Thank you for taking the time to read my blog, it’s knowing that wonderful people like you take the time to visit me that makes me so happy every time I hit “publish” on something. Thank YOU for reading! I truly believe that you don’t have to have a million dollars to have a wonderful life and I’m so happy to know that it comes across when I write here :D Aghk, I wish I was more coherent in being able to say how much reading your comment meant to me and how appreciative I am *_* Just thank you so much for being wonderful M <3 I'll always be here writing too so never be afraid to say hi again :)

This is really cute! I used to frequently have that same problem. What I’ve done to help myself find things was group stuff together and place them on a box with labels. All writing materials in one box, all scissors on another (I have at least 5 of these!), ribbons, papers, you name it they have their own box.

  10. I use the every item has a home method. On my desk are outlines drawn where each item “belongs”. Once I’m done using said item it goes immediately back in it’s spot. I also have designated crafting areas and a “field kit”. I turned a picnic basket into a craft basket for mobile sewing, knitting, or beading. That way I don’t take my home crafting essentials out where they could be lost. :D These are just a few methods I use. A really cool trick for keeping sewing/knitting stuff in a home are those over the door shoe hangers. The pockets are the perfect size for rulers, scissors, rotary cutters, measuring tape, etc.

    • Omg that is so clever! Field kit is an awesome idea, I totally need to make something like that *_* I think I’ve lost so many things by taking them outside! Thank you for such a great idea!

  11. Proof that everything can be deco’d!

Haha, this is so me! Scissors, seam rippers and measuring tapes, it seems I keep losing them all the time! They all reappear… eventually. That is why I always have several of each, that way even if all of them are missing, if I search hard enough one of them eventually pops up.

I guess it also helps my house is tiny and I do all my sewing and crafting in the same room, thus limiting the area where things may be (usually).
