Beanie: Made by meThat outfit was for a casual MBBE meet up, I was testing out an Estee Lauder palette so it was all browns and natural colour. The result is still quite nice though.
I have been trying out coating my lower lashes with mascara and using lower liner too for the first time. For this look I just did the lashes on the outer half of my eyes. I quite like it but it’s not something I would do every day.

This was a more colourful experiment that I tried out for the second time to meet up with my friend Alice for tea.

She said it reminded her of a fairy and I’m inclined to agree ^_^

I’m still refining this a bit and seeing whether it looks best with lower mascara or not but I think it’s a really nice look.
Tutorial on this has been requested so once I get it right I’ll make one ^_^
LAstly the whole lower mascara/eyeliner has lead me to some fun experiments

This looks is a lot more grungy and much darker than I’m used to wearing but James really liked it XD

He had a bunch of new lighting that he needed to test so I was the stand in model again >_<

These last two photos are crappy phone pictures taken from my mobile blog to show some more of the bottom lash experiments I’ve been doing. This one uses little corner bottom falsies that I think I really like.

And this one is just to show that I do actually have lower lashes, I didn’t even know they existed because they’re blonde!

So what do you all think, are you a fan of lower lashes or do you prefer to do your top ones only? Do you guys have tips for applying bottom mascara without stabbing yourself in the eye/making a big mess?

I always do my lower lashes, I think it makes my eyes look bigger. If it’s hard to get them it might be because they are so small. A good way to do smaller lashes is to use a spiral dental brush. Not sure of the technical name but they look like this: http://www.archwired.com/images/froogle/Proxi_Brushes.jpg and they are structured kind of like a teeny mascara wand! You can get them pretty much anywhere next to the toothbrushes/floss/etc.
Oooooh that’s a genius idea! Totally going to check out the store and give it a try! Thank you so much :D
I’m not good at putting make-up on my eyes full stop :-P so bottom lashes are pretty much out!! I love the cardi in your outfit pic!! I have a jumper thats quite similar!!
XD I know the feeling Caz! Thanks so much!
For the lower lashes, you can hold the wand vertical and gently sweep the tip back and forth on your bottom lashes. To ungunk them, I use my thumb and the nail of forefinger to gently pinch the lashes and pull down. This scrapes some of the extra mascara off, so the lashes are colored, but not thick and goopy.
That’s a really clever idea, I’ve tried the side to side but de-gunking them with nails is a really good idea thank you!
I really like having my lower lashes showing, they are quite long so I think it looks pretty and makes my eyes stand out more. I dye my eyelashes, so I just do that about once a month, and then curl the top lashes.
Such beautiful eyes! :-) The more grungey/goth look really suits you, those pics could be off some ultra-cool 1980s album cover! ^_^
I always think my eyes look ‘top heavy’ if I put mascara on the top lashes only. I avoid eye-stab by moving the wand from side to side instead of sweeping it downwards (if that makes sense…). As for mess-avoidance I wipe the end of the wand first with a clean tissue, it gets rid of that blob of excess mascara that tends to go everywhere… >_<
Aww thanks Ruby! Thanks for the tips, I totally know what you mean about the extra blob of mascara at the end!
I’ve always wanted to dye my eyelashes, so I’m really interested! Do you diy or get them professionally done?
I really like the third-to-last picture. It looks like a magazine makeup add. :)
Oh wow thank you so much!!
I love the makeup! Especially the grunge-y one, but only because is my style more than anything.
I always coat my lower lashes too because my eyes are too small not too. I don’t poke myself in the eye anymore, but when I first started with the mascara I’d go slow and not try to get the lash roots.
Thanks Ashlee! It’s definitely a different style than I usually wear, more like what I wore as a teenager :D Thanks for the tips!
Lovely and Unique as always! :D
Lower lashes, I never thought I would like
But sometimes when you put on the uppers, the lower looks really naked hah
I totally know what you mean, I think they look good on other people depending on the style but I’ve always thought it looked awkward on me XD
Your right! There isn’t a lot of outfit pics. xD Anyway, I guess for me I like upper eyelashes more, but I can see how the lower lashes tie the whole eye look together.
Haha I definitely got a bit carried away with make up this time XD
Hi, I admire your outfits so much. Only I can’t pull off that kind of fashion because it’s hot here in the Philippines hehe. I think you’re cute in your outfits!
Aww thank you so much! It’s winter here at the moment but in summer it gets pretty hot!
I always do my bottom lashes! I love the doe-eyed look. My tried-and-true method of coating the bottom lashes is to hold the brush vertically and sweep quickly towards to outer eye. Loving your makeup photos; I always end up stealing your ideas and using them!
:D Very glad to give ideas and thank you so much for the suggestions, I’ll have to give it a try!
I always always always do lower lashes because my eyes are small :D At first I always got a lot of mascara on my face but now it only happens when I have really shaky hands instead of my usual shaky ones :D
XD I have shaky hands too so I have to lean on the counter heavily to steady them!
You have such beautiful eyes! Actually you are just beautiful. I think your makeup looks great however you do it. :) x
Thank you so much Abi, you are so lovely to say that!
I like both, when I want to be more dolly, I go with top and bottom lashes, and for more of a doe eyed 50′s look I go with just top lashes, sometimes, especially when only doing bold winged top lid only eye liner. I like all of these looks on you, the dark and the purple are amazing!
Thanks Piper, I know what you mean, it’s great to have options depending on what you feel like that day!
I just noticed that you and I have the same eye color!!! :D My eyes used to be a green/blue color, but now they look more brown/green color, like yours! In normal lighting, my eyes look green and in other lighting, my eyes look brown! I’m glad to find someone else with my eye color!
Haha that’s awesome! Mine are pretty much green with yellow in the middle but they used to have a blue ring around the outside, now it just looks grey. Very fun to experiment with different lighting and make them different colours :D
Your outfit is cute and I love all your makeup looks, but the last one is my favorite on you. You are blessed with really lovely lower lashes so why not accentuate them? :)Personally, my lower lashes are fairly small and I usually forget to even put mascara on them when I’m doing my makeup.
As far as falsies go, I love the way they look on my eyes but I rarely wear them because I CANNOT get the inner part of the lash strip to stick to my eye! I have tried different glues and different techniques with no luck. How do you get your lashes to stay put on the inner corners?
Thanks Chel! The inner corner of lashes is a really tough thing because it depends on your eye shape :( I think there are some shapes which make it much harder to get a proper stick. Do you press in the corners while the glue is drying? Some glue requires you to leave it for a minute to get tacky before you stick them so that might help too. Maybe also try sticking them a little bit higher than your lash line so it grabs more skin or also if you’re applying the lashes on top of your eyeliner rather than before that might effect it too. Let me know if any of that helps!

I have heard that one good way to apply lower lash mascara is to put a tissue or another bit of paper under your lower lashes so the mascara doesn’t get on your skin.
I haven’t tried this trick myself because I also heard that if you have dark under the eye circles {like I do} that you shouldn’t wear mascara on your lower lashes. I don’t know whether this is true, but I do like the more “natural” look of no lower lash mascara, so I don’t usually wear it.

That’s a really clever trick Bonita, I’ll give it a go! I’ve seen purpose built mascara guards too which seem like a very clever idea :D
I experiment with mascara on my lower lashes a bit. I don’t wear it every day, but sometimes it looks really cute when worn with a vintage pin-up style outfit. I also use a fair bit of lower lash liner and mascara to achieve some mesmerizing punk/goth makeup looks.
I adore the ‘fairy’ eye makeup. It’s gorgeous.
Thanks Ness! I agree, it’s totally not an every day thing for me but totally fun to experiment!
Lovely Violet! It looks gorgeous, the darker makeup is stunning too. Oh before I go onto the makeup, I really like what you’re wearing :) So so cute hehe! I have to check out 7 angels, I haven’t gone down there in ages. Anyway lower lashes, it’s something crucial in my makeup routine.. Without it I don’t know if my eyes are existent! Lastly, lol sorry, what lashes are you wearing on the top? They look perfect! x
Thanks so much!! Omg I should have told you the answer last time I saw you >_< Sorry for such a late reply! They are some random ones a friend in Singapore bought for me in bulk, they are a thin band with criss cross lashes and they are short at both sides, long in the middle like this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/10-Pairs-Long-Thick-Cross-FALSE-EYELASHES-W3326c-/220537334965?pt=AU_Makeup&hash=item33590cacb5#ht_3373wt_907
