Cedel Hair Spray Review
Jun 10, 2011 by Violet
I go through a lot of hairspray, I use it pretty much every time I do my hair and I am very demanding as to what I expect from my spray. It takes a lot of oomph to hold up some of the silly styles I wear so my spray needs to be hard wearing but I also like having my hair down and reasonably natural so it needs to have movement.
I’ve tried a lot and hands down my favorite is Cedel Hair Lacquer with the black label, I’ve gone through many cans of this!
Brand- Cedel
Product- Hair Lacquer
Cost- around $7
Available from- Priceline, pharmacies and online stores like this.

| One of the things I judge a product on the most is smell and this one has a pretty powerful smell so I suggest you see if you can try some in store before buying. Personally I like the smell because it reminds me of when I worked in theatre and it doesn’t linger around long unlike a lot of the other hair sprays I’ve tried. My favorite part of this spray is that it is meant to be brushed out rather than washed out. This is a huge plus for me because I hate washing my hair every day and I hate products that leave a residue in my hair. At the end of the day I gently brush this out until my hair is smooth and it’s like it never existed. Big plus. You’ve seen a lot of my hair styles on this site before so I thought I would put the spray to a real test, here is how it does holding my fringe straight up in the air. No teasing just spray…
Brushed it straight up with a comb:

Gave it a good spray either side and on the top:

Not bad!

Very Something About Mary ;)
Now how will it go when I brush it out…

After 3 brushes:

A couple more…

Good as new.
There’s something in this formula which just seems to be magic with my hair, even when it’s down I can spray it over gently, give it a tiny brush and it’s in place but still really natural and there is actually movement. I think the versatility is what makes this a really interesting product and that’s probably why Cedel has been in business with it since the 30′s. No fancy gimmicks, it just works. They also make mini handbag sized ones so plus one for that too.
Verdict- Strong smell but works better than any other spray I’ve used. Price is great, bottle is big and it’s very versatile. I wont be switching any time soon. DO WANT |
Thanks for the rec! I know nothing about hairspray and never know which one to pick, but I will def check this one out.
You’re eyes are so BIG! *_*
XD No problems! Seriously I swear by this stuff, best hair money you’ll ever spend :D
Personally, I don’t think you can go past Cedel Hairspray. I always use it and I think that it’s because I grew up seeing my Nan using it. I think it is still Australian owned as well.

I completely agree! It’s nice when a good old fashioned brand doesn’t get caught up in changing a formula when it already works. Yep I think you’re right about it being Australian owned too!
After doing nothing with my hair for the last 28 years I’m only now starting to use different products. I don’t like having to wash my hair everyday (it’s goes frizzy) either so this sounds like it would be great.
Thankyou
No problems, I hope it works out well for you!
I love cedel Dry shampoo and recently did a my first beauty review about it!
I have yet to get my hands on this hairspray as i have been quite busy but I’ve had such good luck with my dry shampoo i know their hairspray has to be good!
I know there 2 other types or so beside this black one but i like the super hold stuff too!
Cheers
Jen
I liked their dry shampoo too! Hope it works out with your hair too Jen!
I use the pink bottle & I love it! Seeing as I can’t buy it o/s here the can is big enough to last me quite awhile… I use it every work day & I brought one back from my first Sydney trip away (back in Sept) and it’s only just running out now. Bargain!
Also love that it brushes out too.
Wow that’s lasting! Mine lasts around 4 months but I do tend to go overboard with it XD
I never heard of this brand before! Is it only available in Australia? This is really awesome =D I can’t believe you’re hair would stand straight like that with only hair spray while still looking natural when the hair is down XD
I think they only have stockists in Aus but you can buy it online here and they ship internationally: http://www.pulsepharmacy.com.au/results.aspx?Searches=cedel&SEARCHTYPE=0&internal=1
WOW lol! It’s standing right up! I don’t use hairspray myself but that’s incredible lol!
I know right?! I knew it was awesome but this totally shocked even me XD
That`s a new brand for me, too =D Looks very effective, though! =B

It’s crazy effective :D I love it to death!
I love the Cedel spray too – By FAR the best! It’s really light too and isn’t as ‘wet’ as other sprays. You know how they get sticky and heavy and horrible. Ew.
Yes! I know exactly what you mean, sticky spray is the worst feeling ever especially when you hop in the shower to get it out >_<
Wow that’s some heavy-duty spray! It must be amazing if it can make your bangs stand up like that xD. I wish I have a spray like that where I live so it saves me the trouble of finding one that fits me, but sadly going to have to go through the process sooner or later. Going a bit off-topic here, I noticed that there are still pink hairs in your brush. Are those from the furs on the jacket that you had combed a while back? Just wondering.
Anyway, thanks for sharing! :D
If you want some you can always order online here: http://www.pulsepharmacy.com.au/results.aspx?Searches=cedel&SEARCHTYPE=0&internal=1
Hahaha no I clean out my brush once a week, the pink hair in there is mine ^_^
HOLY MOLEY :O
It’s a magic hairspray….. !!
Is it available out of Australia? ><"
Magic! It’s only in Australian stores as far as I know but you can buy it online here and they ship internationally: http://www.pulsepharmacy.com.au/results.aspx?Searches=cedel&SEARCHTYPE=0&internal=1
Is this an Australian only company, or is it available in the USA too?

My Nana has gorgeous hair and she swears by Cedel. She’s been using it since she was a teenager, and refuses to use anything else. When she flew to Perth for my cousins’ wedding, she sent my brother out in search of hairspray and got so angry when he bought back a can of VO5 spray instead of Cedel.
It’s my personal favorite too. I’ve tried a few others, but I’m yet to find a spray that compares to Cedel.
Ahahaha! I can just imagine that scene playing out XD Nana’s always have the best taste in hair products!
