Hi, Violet! Those gum boots are absolutely cute! Where can I buy them?

  2. I have definitely been in crafting ruts before. When this happens I just go with my feelings and don’t craft for awhile. It is never long before I begin to miss it terribly and start back again, more excited about it than ever!

  3. Crafting ruts aren’t fun places to be. I used to keep a drawer packed full of unfinished craft projects… out of mind out of sight right? Not always… I found keeping a drawer of unfinished projects was uninspiring me to start new projects, having that back log of all the “things id like to finish but know I probably won’t” can put a damper on creativity, especially when you know you’ve already put a lot of heart into them and factor in that the materials could have been possibly quite costly as well.

So, for me, part of finding the motivation to get back into crafting and sewing is to tidy up and/or cull all the ‘i’ll probably never finish that project’ projects. Whether that means literally culling them, or finally finishing them off or hiding them somewhere out of mind and out of sight, doesn’t really matter. The idea is a kind of a spring-cleaning for all that horrible negative energy thats dampening all that creativity subconsciously.

Other things that help me find motivation when designing are following up on the blogs and photo-feeds of unique people and artists that I admire and that I would consider to be inspirational, as sometimes being one of the best ways to re-inspire creativity.

    • Thank you so much for such awesome suggestions Laura! My unfinished projects pile just keeps getting bigger and bigger so I think I really need to get in there and just ditch some things! I’m sure it will feel cleansing!

  4. Nice snapshots. ^^ I’m not in a crafting rut at the moment since I have plenty of ideas at the moment (though that might change in the future). I would suggest getting into something small, easy and fun, since you are more likely to finish it and it would hopefully help you with getting your motivation back. Now this might not be the case, but also once you finish that small project you are more likely to work on the long term ones. Hope that helps.

    • Thanks so much for your comment Wanda! I think part of the problem is the long to-do list of projects and requests which just aren’t inspiring me at the moment >_< I'm sure when I just suck it up and start going something again everything will fall back into place!

  5. I do get it craft ruts sometimes, what helps me is to look at and amazing stuff other people do and tell myself I want to do better. That’s usualy a good motivator for me.

  6. Lol, I’ve been doing the same thing since I just moved. :D

But yeah, I have one way that I use stuff-lust to push myself into finishing old projects.

I google pictures of stuff similar to what I’m making for myself )bags, dolls, dresses similar to the one I’m working on, etc), until I can’t stand it anymore and want a new one so bad I just go finish the damn one I was working on! XD

Blogs like yours and other fashion blogs kinda induce that in me as well. I tried out that drawer lining thing literally AS SOON AS I was done reading the tutorial! (note, linen/medium-to-heavyweight fabrics, not so good. Hard to cut, and hard to get to stay in place. :/ Turned out cute though!)

    • Oh really? Maybe add more tape of if you’re planning to keep it there a while longer then maybe a tiny bit of glue? I can imagine it would be hard to fold them exactly like that too *_* Thanks so much for your suggestions, I’m going to go on a reading spree tonight and see if I can inspire myself!
