So first thing I did was give her face a make over. The make up she came with was all orangy and yuck so I used black acrylic paint and gave her some eyeliner with wing ends.
I used this pink glitter paint to give her eyeshadow and subtle blush. I did her lipstick with my favorite nail polish! I undid her hair fluffed it out a bit to see how much volume I could get.

Looking better!

I did a little test run to see if I could dye her hair and as it turned out it was really easy!

After sectioning up the top area which would later be used for the hime pouf I combed through her hair.

Using the same dye I use for my own hair I added the pink gradient. But instead of washing it out, I left it to dry over night.

After brushing through the next day it was all soft, bouncy and exactly the way I wanted! :D

I experimented with a couple of ways to put her hair up, at first I was going to use a rat inside made of tissue paper but it was too hard to keep in place.

Not working…

So after tying the rest of her hair back and considering the fact that she’s a doll and it doesn’t really matter if her hair sustains long term damage I just teased/backcombed the hell out of it!

After hair spraying the crap out of it this is what I got…

Side:

And back:

And with her hair out…

Last thing I needed to work out with her hair was put some bouncy curls in! I covered her up in some thick paper towels so nothing was damaged.

Then using disposable chopsticks I curled up her hair and held it all together with an elastic. After everything was secure I spent about 10 minutes with a hair dryer heating up, cooling down, heating up, cooling down, heating up, cooling down etc ^_^ This was enough to reset her hair without melting it. Very similar to styling synthetic hair pieces.

So the result of all that work was this:

And from the back:

At that point it was time to work on the finishing touches. Little details like painting her white stockings etc make a big difference to the end result. I thought about doing something with her little shoes but couldn’t decide in the end so I left them.

I stitched up a little dress out of scraps and added some hair flowers. BAM! Mini Violet :D

Then it was just a matter of painting her dog to match. I coated him in white first…

Then added pink sparkly details and repainted his whole face to look less sad/creepy and more happy/adorable.

And there you have it! I couldn’t be happier with her make over! I think she’s going to be a great edition to this blog too because she’s looks better in photos than the real Violet XD

I asked James to take a bunch of photos of her with his new lens so pic spam ahead!

I made this little hat for her too, tutorial coming soon!

Who wouldn’t want a picnic like this?

Looking longingly out my window at the gel stars that I stare at all day from behind my computer.

Very photogenic!

So all in all I thoroughly enjoyed my first doll make over experience. I don’t know if I’m completely addicted but having a little army of them would be pretty sweet!

What do you guys think? Did I do a good job on my mini Blythe? |
Aww I love what you’ve done to her, I have a few full sized blythe and I loooove them <3

Aww thanks for commenting Frances, I’m really glad you did!
Amazing! <3
:D Thanks Rai!
That’s AMAZING Violet! Like you, I’ve always really liked the idea of having a Blythe but they’re a bit out of my budget for something like that. I had no idea Littlest Pet Shop was doing mini Blythes – I might have to head out to the shops and track one down!
You should definitely check them out, the outfits a lot of them come with are adorable :D
I think it’s amazing! It looks like so much fun.
It really was heap of fun!
This really makes me wanna buy one and custom it so it looks like me !! Hahah. You are amazingly talented Violet! And I love it heapsss :D
<3 You should find a mini guy for James too! hehe
Ahaha that would be adorable! I am totally going to hunt for one XD
not a good job…GREAT job :)
I don’t know if you’ve ever been to the dollar store craft site. If you haven’t you should :) There is some great tutorials for making miniature things for doll houses and what not. google dollar store crafts if you’re interested.
:D Thank you! Oh no I haven’t been to that site but thank you, I’m totally going to go check it out now! *starts plotting a whole doll house!*
Oh my gosh! I’m so impressed! Super awesome! Now when you do outfit posts, everyone will expect a matching Blythe one! What will you call her? Blyolet?
AHAHAHAHA!!! Blyolet is the best name ever! I am totally going to call her that!!
I’m in awe of your creativity, Violet! :-D
You are making me blush Dee!
Ah! Super super super cute! I love Littlest Pet Shop! I have a few I have on display (still in boxes) next to some My Little Ponies! I may just have to pick up one of these sets and have a go at giving one a makeover!
You should, I would love to see one with your adorable hair :D I was a massive collector of Littlest Pet Shop as a kid too :D
Ohhhhh! This is so cool. You are amazing. Look at how adorable mini-Violet is. Hehehe. I’ve always wanted a doll of myself, I must admit, but can’t say I have the skill (or patience to learn) to do my own. I’m completely amazed. =D
-Andi x
Haha if I get really into it I might just have to make you one too XD
nawww its a mini violet! too cute!! ^_^
Haha thanks Krissy!
omg lol that reminds me of someone familiar.. you ahaha wow you managed to completely change her hair without melting it. last time i tried to style my barbie’s hair bad things happened.. really bad things. my mother never let me buy another doll ever again after an hour of lecturing
XD I think every girl has a few melted barbies from styling mishaps!
That is completely adorable! You did a fantastic job of her makeover.
Thanks Katie!
Wow, that’s really cool! I like what you did with her.
I especially like the artificial white light picture, so pretty <3!!
Haha I’ve got to thank James for that picture of course, yay for the light box XD

You are made of magic!
Now I want you to “refashion” a doll for the dollhouse I’m making. Haha :D
XD Not magic, just an inability to sit still! You should totally try it :D
I’m not even into dolls and this makes me want to try them out!
XD I wasn’t either but now I think I’m getting hooked!
Awww mini Violet is adorable I love the hair, I totally want to make a mini me now to xoxo

I absolutely love seeing people customize dolls like this.

:D Thanks Minnie!! I’m so glad you like her! You should have a little princess blythe too :D
Hi Violet,
I saw you in the city yesterday but I was too shy to say hi. You look gorgeous and adorable like the blythe doll.
Sen
Aww Sen! Next time don’t be shy, I promise I won’t bite :D Thank you for commenting, hopefully I catch you in the city sometime again <3
The sheer adorableness of this made my Heart smile :))
Aww!! I’m very glad!
You know, I’m not really a fan of Blythe (more of a fan of Pullip, and even more of a fan of ball joint dolls) but yours is so adorable! I wonder if there’s a way to mold the feet and give her little heels. Then you could a little bow on it!
I do love BJD’s too, the photos people take of them are just amazing! Hmm not sure about her feet but I think it might be do-able, I’ll have a think about it :D
That is the cutest thing ever! I think you could take commissions on making them over into little clones!
XD I don’t know if I’m that confident in my abilities yet haha!
I am so impressed! She’s adorable. I love her dog too. If only real dogs came with pink glittery fur…
If they did I think I would move to a farm and just have a whole pack of them!
OMG, I love Blythe dolls!! I plan to start my own little collection one of these days:) I had no idea littlest pet shop had version, so thanks! Will be grabbing. I think you’d like this Blythe doll http://www.blythedoll.com/eng/news/2010/09/qpot_and_blythe_first_middie_b.html
I do love that one! Heehee you know my tastes too well :D
This is awesome! Great job! I want more posts like this:) Colouring the hairs was very good idea :)
Haha ok! Thank you <3
That is so cute and it looks so much like you. I normally don’t like Blythe dolls – they are a bit scary!
They can be a little creepy, I worked in a Home Art for a while and they had an entire wall of those creepy Victorian-ish dolls that was just disturbing >_< They started at you no matter where you were in the rom *_*
Waaaaa!!!!! (This is me crying ’cause I didn’t have aViolet doll to bring with me!!) This is THE BEST thing EVA!!
How freaky we were doing the same thing at the same time too… Although mine is nowhere near as good a Violet representation as yours, so now I’m all embarrassed to show her. Either way, I’m ‘sharing’ this all over internet land because you are freekin awesome my love!! <3<3 Xx
Hahaha I’ve very glad you approved!
MY LORD
I love this so freaking much!!
I used to make dolls of me when I was younger, I wonder if I can find them all now haha
Omg find them!!! I want to see :D
Dear Ms LeBeaux,
I find your website truly delightful. I was signposted to your site from SKM and I just love logging in and seeing what you two are up to.
I love the fact that you both are ‘thrifters’. As am I – the thrill of the chase, the hunt for that bit of vintage glam its so exciting and its recycling. Not to mention having a good ol’ gasbag to the wonderful volunteers who man the counters. Its such an inexpensive and pleasant experience -especially if you have two little Weeroys age 2 and 4 – its lovely the offers I get for a grandmotherly eye to kept over them while I nip into the change room and try something on is heartwarming.
Next time you and Super Kawaii Mama are in Brisbane (make it in the cool dry months) look me up and we’ll go thrifting together at the fill a bag for $2 & $5 thriftshops I know. Have found some treasures with labels like ‘Made in Sydney/Melbourne’
Thank you for your generosity of spirit and creativity in doing this site, and those tutorials – thats so good of you to share your knowledge and expertise.
(First time I’ve ever left a comment on a website)
May the op shop gods richly bless you.
Aunty Leroy
Dear Aunty Leroy,
Thank you so much for leaving me such a wonderful heartfelt comment, I really appreciate you taking the time to write to me! I absolutely love thrifting and creating new things from old. I would love to come shopping with you next time I’m up in Brisbane, I only wish I had heard from you while I was still living there! Thank you so much again, you comment really made my day. I hope you have some fantastic finds in the coming months :)
<3 Violet
Oh my god, I love this personal doll! I want one too! :D You’re amazing. Love the hair!
Thanks Paulien!
That is incredible! Awesome skills!
Thanks Marie!
I have been a reader of your blog for a long time and I believe that this is my first time commenting.
Anyway, seriously, that is SOOOOOOOOOO cool what you have done with a Blythe doll!! I really LIKE this post a LOT!
I want a mini-me too…
Aww thanks for commenting Ling! You should make one :D
Ahh!! This is so adorable and such a good idea *A* now I want to try to make one. <3
You should give it a try!
I LOVE this! I saw these in Kmart here in the States and now I’m seriously thinking of picking the “Autumn Glam” set up and making a little me (though I may buy the accessories yours came with if possible–I ♥ picnic baskets and strawberries).
The accessories you mentioned are actually from a vending machine in Japan sorry! You should totally give the modification a try :D
Such a great work! She’s so adorable now, more than before :)
Your blog is a nice find, I’ll start follow you from now!
Bye!
Thanks so much Marta, you are so sweet! I’m really glad you enjoyed my blog ^_^
So much better than the actual blythes! So awesome
