Puffy Star/Bow/Heart Accessories

Feb 21, 2011 by

I’ve been seeing these puffy accessories everywhere lately so I figured I would show you all how easy they are to make :D Swimmer and a couple of other brands have them as hair clips, brooches and all kinds of things.

This is how my version turned out:

Wow I had no idea how simple these were to make! Thank you so much for this tutorial I definitely need to get my craft on!

    • You should most definitely make a heap of them so I don’t feel weird wanting to spend all day doing it myself XD

  2. I really get inspired by your tutorials, especially this one and the previous with the fluffy yam. Gonna try and find it in Holland, and pick up some old hobby’s again.

  3. zomg this is love *_*

  4. u make it so simple! this is great ^^ i wish my craft shop had a nice vary on their wolls though :(

    • Thanks Naka! Maybe you could order online? It can be really frustrating ordering online and not being able to feel the yarn though :(

  5. you are sooo clever! I don’t really like these type of accessoires but like you said, lot’s of girls do. This is great that you figured out a way to make them! just great!! ^^

  6. This is one of the reasons why I love pink~ so cute! I have an excess supply of coat hangers, so this can’t be ignored!!!

  7. These are really cute I want to make one too^^!

  8. Thank you for this! Recently I’ve been wanting to make one of these. I knew it had to be easy but I wasn’t sure how to go about it.

I knew it was wire inside, but I couldn’t decide if it was a fluffy material that had been sewn into a tube and then slipped over the wire or yarn. And I never thought of just wrapping the yarn around, I figured it was knitted or crocheted.

I’m so excited to make one now. You are the best! ♥

  9. OMG! That is SO COOL! I thought that puffy little stars were much more harder to make! But now that you’ve shown me how to make those stars…I CAN’T WAIT!! :3

When you start wrapping the yarn around the wire, do you just tie a little knot to keep it in place? And when you stop wrapping, how do you secure the end of the yarn? Great tutorial by the way!

    • Thanks Diana, yep I just tied a knot to begin the winding and then another knot to finish it off, then I poked the loose end back into itself. Or you could just leave the knot on the back side of it.

  11. This is a great tutorial! Thanks so much for posting it, I have been seeing these everywhere!

This is so cool! I’ve been wanting to buy some of these but this is even better :3

Can you do a tutorial on how to makes ones like this (with no hole in the middle and dangly things)?

How many times did you have to wrap the yarn around to get it so puffy?

    • Quite a bit, I just kept going until they were chunky. If you dont have much yarn then you could add some padding first so it starts off thicker.

I’m having trouble getting the ends to stick together with just tape. Any suggestions?

    • You could try hot glue or bend them together more so the tape sticks better. If you’re just using sticky tape try something heavier like gaffer or duct tape :)
