New iPhone 4 Deco
Feb 28, 2011 by Violet
I’ve been waiting for my phone contract to end for ages so I could upgrade and when I finally got my new phone the first thing I did was of course try to plan out some deco for it!

Lucky for me SuperKawaiiMama had just been on a shopping spree in Singapore with Val from Dweam and they’d brought me back some new Swarovski crystals so I had a lot to play with :D
The first thing I did was lay down protective contact and completely encase the phone to avoid any stray glue problems.

I experimented with placement and the kind of charms. I really wanted to use the silver charm which James bought me a few years ago because I’ve been doing so much knitting lately XD

I finalised my design and did a small test run. This time I decided to go for something flush to the phone rather than a heavy case like last time. I went for a design that was less random because it suited the shape of the phone more.

Then it was time for gluing ^_^ I did the edges first and then using a ruler to make sure it was even and straight laid down a foundation row.

Progress…

After the basics it was time to fill in the middle areas.

And finished!

Cut off the extra masking contact and that’s it!

I haven’t decided if I’ll keep this design yet as it’s not my favorite of the designs I’ve had in the past but if I decide to change it will be as easy as peeling off the contact :D

If I do end up doing it again I’m definitely using the knitting queen charm again XD

Thanks Charlie!
I love it! The pattern is so easy! I think I’ll give it a try
And I love that silver charm! Where did you get it?
James bought it from a local craft store :)
I love it! Only one thing better than rhinestones are more rhinestones ;)
Mwahaha I completely agree :D
Contact paper! I love it- much easier to find and probably cheaper in the long run than those specialty sheets you can buy for phone deco!
Exactly, those sheets can get very expensive but you can buy a whole roll of contact for like $2 :D
Do you still use the resin epoxy for your deco?
I kinda like it, but the stuff I got turns a little bit yellow, and looks icky if not properly covered.
Would you recommend the deco glues you can find at Strapya and all that?
I’m also wondering how you’re going to get the charm off if you do it over. Do you recycle all your old materials?
Hey Piper,
Yep I still use epoxy for all my deco. I have only had once instance of epoxy yellowing and it was a very cheap brand so maybe try a higher end one? If you’re finding that you don’t like the look of it uncovered you could always dip the bottom of the jewels in the glue and them place them on the surface using tweezers. But if you don’t like exoxy in general it you could always try e6000, I’ve heard good things about it but never actually tried it. I haven’t used the deco glues that are sold at Strapya so I couldn’t really comment on them. If I decide to redo it I will peel the contact I put down first off ad as it’s flexible just snap the glue off from around the charm and gems. No I don’t re-use all my supplies, some things you can’t recycle such as acrylic diamantes ^_^ Hope that helps!
Hey Violet, Just wondering where do you get your contact paper from? I’ve never heard of it in the Uk, Would love to use it, to try this tutorial out! Thanks :} x
I just bought mine from the local newsagency. It might be called something else in the Uk but it’s the stuff that children cover their school books with. Also if you can’t find it, The Sticker Monster has specialty deco contact paper: http://thestickermonster.blogspot.com/
Thanks hun :]
Love the design! it looks so pretty <33
It looks great before you finished filling in the gaps! you made a heart shape!! :D
Haha it does kind of look like a heart ^_^
