Knitted Heart Face Washers
Feb 15, 2011 by Violet
I kind of fell in love with this yarn when I saw it at Lincraft. I have a bad history of buying novelty yarns and then having absolutely nothing to make with them so I banned myself from buying them… but I’m not very good at sticking to buying bans so this made it home with me anyway!

Took me a while to think of what to make (and you know I’ve got almost the whole fricking ball left over after this project anyway so any suggestions are welcome…. anything other than scarves!) but in the end I settled on making heart shaped knitted facewashers as a start.

| I used 7mm needles an cast on around 20 stitches.

I knit in garter stitch until I had finished a complete square.

And then cast off leaving around 20cm of extra yarn as a tail.

Now place the square like this with the tail at the top.

Basically we’re going to squish down the point into the centre to form the top of the heart…

So using a needle stitch from the top corner down and bunch it up. Tie off and weave any ends in.

Taadaa hearts!

Give them a wash and they are ready to use ^_^ I use mine to remove make up at the end of the day because it’s so soft and gentle and once dirty, can just be thrown in the wash. Considering the whole ball of yarn cost $5 you could make 1 for each day of the week and never buy cotton pads again. +1 for the environment and much cuter too XD
Quite a few of you guys have written to me asking for a beginners knitting class kind of tutorial. I’m thinking of trying to shoot that soon, is there anything specific you want included? Would you all prefer videos or photos? |
That is an amazing idea. I can’t wait to try it out.
I hope you do!
For the knitting tutorial I’d really prefer a video. A lot of times details are missed or hard for me to follow if it’s just pictures. Thank you very much for making a tutorial for knitting. On the lionbrand website there are a ton of free knitting patterns, but I think that yarn would make for an excelent amigurumi ;)
We don’t have lionbrand here unfortunately ;_; But I’ll use something nice and generic so you can substitute it for anything you have handy! Video seems to the general consensus so yay, easier for me too!
Those are adorable! I actually just bought 2 balls of yarn exactly like that in slightly different colors yesterday because they were on sale XD I don’t even know how to knit! It was just so soft and fluffy I couldn’t resist.
I think you should make fluffy knitted bows with the rest of the yarn!
I would love a simple beginners knitter tutorial. Personally I like photo tutorials more than video tutorials, but video might be better for something like this.
Bows sound completely adorable :D I might actually make both a photo and video tutorial so everyone’s happy and it’s super easy to follow.
Cute! Love the yarn. :)
Thank you!
Absolutely LOVE!!!
I wanna substitute cotton pads now and this is so cute!
For the leftover yarn, how about knittd balls to use as pom pons? I’m a sucker for pom pons, but I never seem to do them right.
I love pompoms too!
Adorable!
Thanks Claudia!
I like to make crocheted roses (the rolled kind) & other flowers from all sorts of different yarns & threads. I’ve made several as Xmas gifts over the years and they’re always a big hit. You can put pin backs, barrettes, or magnets. If you make a petaled flower (I like 5 petaled ones best), you can use a bead or button as the center too.
Some yarns can be very difficult to crochet with though, with the hook getting caught like crazy, so I need to learn how to knit better. I have a couple of knitted & rolled rosette patterns around.
Flower ones sound super cute, what a good idea!
This is soo adorable <3 I love everything you make!
Aww thank you NanaChan!
Lovely heart ^^
You can make a swiffer thingie out of the yarn. So you have a nice thing to catch dust and clean ^^
Ooooh that is a great idea! I didn’t even think of that!
This is so cool. I never, ever would have thought of this as a way to make a heart! So cute. I know some knitting basics, but a video would really be easier to learn from I think.
It’s so much quicker and easier than actually knitting a heart shape! Thanks for your vote on the video too.
I love fluffy things~!! Those wash clothes are soooo cuuute!! I want to sleep in it XD
Heehee I will knit you a pillow!
Oooooh thank you for this! I wanted to do my own reusable pads so thanks for the tutorial ^^ I’ve seen you also can do then with sponge (towel fabric) I didnt even know you could do it with wool, I’ll look for some spongey wool like this ^^
And for your ball of wool, why don’t you make a make up head band with a big fluffy bow that you’ll wear when you wash your face and put you make up on?
Yep I imagine you can do it with pretty much any yarn! Fluffy headband sounds like a very cute idea :D
That is such a cute idea. I never thought about making a heart that way before. If you are thinking about a knitting tutorial, videos are the best way to go because they are clearer than just pictures.
No problems! Videos it is :D
I’m having trouble finding yarn like this :/ *sad*
Aww :( Maybe the place I bought mine could ship overseas from their online store: http://lincraft.cart.net.au/details/2824628.html
