My result…

There are various ways to make pompoms, when I was a kid we cut 2 cardboard circles and threaded the yarn through. Now that I’m older the novelty of cutting out cardboard circles has worn off so I take the lazy way:

What you need:
- Yarn
- Scissors/small sharp nail scissors
- Something hard which is roughly the diameter you want the finished pompom to be, I used an eyeshadow palette you could just use your fingers.
Start wrapping the yarn around the eyeshadow.

Keep wrapping until you have a decent amount like this:

Slide the yarn off…

Hold it like this…

Use another piece of yarn to tie around the middle tightly or if you want to take the easier way: a thin rubber band. If you want to hang it off something you can leave the piece of yarn long.

Cut all of the loops…

And it will look like this:

Repeat on the other side and you have a basic pompom!

Now it’s time to trim it into a heart! Use you scissors to cut the bottom into a basic point.

Like this…

Then cut a wedge out of the top to make a heart.

Now you’ve got the basic shape it’s time to trim with some small sharp scissors until it’s perfect.

Her you can see I’ve een working on the right side while the left is still long and messy:

And done!

You might want put down a sheet of paper or something to catch all the fluff that you’re cutting off XD

Very cute craft project and once you get in the swing of things they don’t take very long to make :D

Now to think of where to hang them all! |
Super cute, and it’s awesome you figured out how to do it without having to buy the expensive unitasker!
Thank you Olive!
Love it! I’ll definitely try making some of these. I want to hang them off my rear view mirror in my car!
That is such a great idea! Makes me wish I still had a car!
OMG ITS SO FLUFFY!!!!!

I want to cover my house in them!
Ara 25?? I actually own some of those things D: but they sold them for around $4 – $6! They’re actually pretty good guides – but the heart ones can be trick ><

I knew how to make the basic pompom. But I never thought that a heart shaped pompom was possible! I will have to make some of these now. My favorite color is blue so I really love that you made the heart with blue yarn. ❤
Seriously they are so easy once you get the hang of the basic shape :D I can’t wait to see what you make with them!
Oh my goodness that’s so adorable! I have got to make pompoms now XD
That’s such a total rip off that they wanted $25 for a regular pompom maker that they claimed made regular balls XD what a gimmick!
I know right, why one earth would I pay $25 for that *_* Ah well, go forth and make billions of these and we will decorate the whole world XD
I cant tell you enough how much I love the look of these!!!
:D I am wracking my brains to think of what else to put them on!
How adorable! I will definitely be getting out my bundles and bundles of yarn so I can make thousands of these!
:D I would so love to see thousands of these in a room!
I know what I’m doing with my left over hot pink wool tomorrow… today… whatever!
It’s 5.34am here in Scotland – insomnia sucks! Thank goodness for blogs!
I hear 5:34am is the ideal time to make pompoms!
That is such an easier way to make pompoms! And the heart looks gorgeous! Definitely trying
I think it would be a great project for your kids, better pay off than regular ones hahaha!
Very true, lol!
I used to use this method all the time as a kid to make pompoms. I never thought about making hearts though!
