Easy Gradient Nail Art Tutorial
This post has been on the back burner for a while. Originally I filmed it and had no time to edit then when I finally went to edit I decided to re-film now that my natural nails are long enough. So hopefully it lives up to expectations! Also there’s no music on this video due to some technical problems, I might update it later :)
To be honest using an orange stick is my second choice for doing this. Normally I just use my finger but it was very difficult to see what I was doing with a finger blocking the camera XD If you would like to see another way to achieve a similar look check out Mini Nail Blog’s post in which she uses loose glitter.
Let me know if you have any questions :)

Oh thank you! Totaly going to try this out soon!
I hope it goes well!
i used to do it like that too, but the drying time is so annoying!
>_<
when i do gradient nail, i just do the sponge method..it's a lot easier & no need to wait for it to dry though.
i do it like THIS
when i want it to have a really gradient look , i just use colors that fade out from the tip instead of just 1.
I don’t find the drying time annoying because you have to bend the three colours while they are still tacky so it really ends up being just one coat. The sponge method you linked to is very cool but I think it’s more of a different effect because the colours don’t really blend together ^_^ Thanks for commenting!
Your natural nails are sooooooo nice! The gradient is a very pretty look. I think I’d like to give it a try some time. I wasn’t really sure how to do it, but you made it look not too hard. :)
Aww thanks Alisa <3 It's really easy once you get the hang of it and if you find using the orange stick too hard just go with a finger because it's much quicker :D
Howaaaa!! Thank you for linking my blog, princess!! I love how you apply nail polishes from top to the base of nail, so cute:D
Haha I apply it from top to bottom because I was upside down and the camera was in the way XD Such a bad practice haha! I love your tutorial too!
Very nice gradient effect and very nice tutorial.
Thanks Rabbit!
Wow, awesome tute! (as usual) :P
I wanna do this when I have time.
But I fear that I’ll be too rough and then make huge dents in the nail though~ Haha!
The end product looks SO pretty! ^_^
If you’re worried about being rough then maybe skip the orange stick and just use a finger to blend that way no dents :D I hope it works well for you!
I really like the idea of this, but the video is kind of hard to see because the first two glitters look exactly the same colour. Any chance you could do another tutorial with solid colour polishes? Or does it not work with solid colour polishes?
Hi Magda! Thanks for your commet :D Solid colour polishes are much harder to blend successfully because every tiny imperfection shows in the finished product. If you want to use plain polishes then the easiest way to achieve this is to buy special gradient liquid which is sold in Japan or use clear polish in it’s place to drag the colours into each other.
If you are trying to achieve a gradient effect you should usually choose colours that are very similar to begin with otherwise the blend can look weird. Here’s a picture of a set I did with the same polishes so you can see the colours I used (silver glitter, pink glitter and pink/purple glitter) more clearly:

The technique used to blend the first two polishes and the 2nd and 3rd polishes is exactly the same so if you’re having trouble seeing the colours at the beginning you should at least be able to learn the technique then try it on yourself using whatever polishes you like. I probably won’t do another gradient tutorial so soon after this one but I’ll add it to the list and see ^_^ Hope that helps a bit!
Thank you for the link to the photo, it’s much easier to see the colors there!
No problems, glad it helped!
The video just isn’t showing up on my computer at all D:. It’s a shame because I really wanted to watch it! Gradient nails are probably my favorite so I would love to learn how to do them better. Could you host it somewhere else per chance? ;u;?
Hi Serepuff! You can try to view the video on the hosted site here: http://vimeo.com/19618447 If that doesn’t work let me know.
Yay! Such a good tutorial! I just tried it and it looks good! I also added some little rhinestones! I’ll leave a link to a photo of them if you don’t mind!!! ^_^

I had to mix two of my nail polishes to create the darker colour but it turned out really good! I’m so happy with my manicure, thanks!!! <3 <3 <3
I’m really glad you found it useful! Your nails turned out really well! Let me know if you would like me to add the photo to the reader’s gallery <3
hello! thank you so much for posting this it really helped me out do you mind replying with the products you used?
I’m not sure the polish numbers/shades sorry! From memory they are from The Face Shop and the dark on is from Missha :)
