Plait each section like this and tie the ends. You might need to experiment with plaiting overhand and underhand to see what looks best in the finished product because it can affect the way the plait sits on your head. I find that overhand works best on me.

Now take one plait and pull it upwards.

And over the side of your head:

Hold it very securely with your fingers and remove the hair tie.

Roughly pin it in place using the bobby pins. It doesn’t need to be perfect because this is just to hold it while we work with the rest ^_^

Now grab your other plait and pull it upwards too:

Hold it over the top so it crossed over and covers the end of the first plait. You probably won’t be able to get this one as far over your head as the first one because it has to go over a lump. As long as it reaches the half way point it’s fine though.

Hold it in place and remove the hair tie.

Now using a pin catch a small amount of the first plait:

Pull the pin over the end of the second plait (still holding the little bit of the first one) and push it back the way it came but underneath. Kind of like you’re following the line of a “U”. This is the most secure way to use bobby pins and they won’t just slide back out!

So when you’re done it will look a little like this and most of the ends of the plait will be hidden.

You should repeat this in a couple of the bumps of the plaits on both sides and front and back. If you do that then the ends will all be incased and nothing will be going anywhere :D

Decoration is the key to not looking like a milk maid so I generally choose flowers and cover the back ^_^ The extra pins always help keep everything in place too. If you don’t want to use flowers then I also like pining pearls or little diamantes etc. Very cute!

Lastly it’s time to straighten your fringe or whatever you want to do with it!

From the side it looks a little messy because I didn’t push the flower pins in far enough but you get the general idea!

Finished!

Nice and cool for Summer and very versatile for different styles!
Hope you enjoyed and found it useful ^_^ |

I bet your hair would be long enough now, you would just need to start the plaits up a bit higher, with your blue this could look awesome!

I wear my hair like this all the time in summer. I call it my “Frida Kahlo Hairdo”. It’s so cool and if you do it right, it’s practically indiscructable
Nessbow recently posted..Daily outfit 3-12-2010- Things I love Friday
Ahahaha How did I not think of Frida Kahlo?! You are so right about indestructible, I’ve gone to sleep in it before and woken up picture perfect :D
your hair looks soooo much better without the brassy tips! the pink is cute! good tutorial :)
XD I liked the brassy tips! Glad you enjoyed the tutorial :)
Aw, it’s such a cute style! For years I kept wearing my hair for exams similarly – only that I pulled the braids back, instead of putting them on the top of my head. People were always amazed how could I do it (even without mirrors later, haha! :D) but it’s really easy once you get the hang of it, and it looks so pretty!! ^^
And all those years it never occured to me that I could pin the braids the other way… :D
We had a casual shot a couple of weeks ago where I was mainly to help with the hairdos but we ended up with far less models than expected, so I kind of quickly made this ‘do for myself and jumped in. They loved it! :D
That sounds really cute! Your shoot sounds like lots of fun too :D
Thanks! I’ve been wanting to do this to my hair ever since I saw Harold and Maude. lol :)
Hahahaha! Awesome :D
Woah! So gorgeous! Really good job. I feel slightly ashamed of commenting for the first time only now even though it has been years that i have been lurking around your site…Eumh…So…Say,do you mind sharing with us your hair dying secrets? Like how to do it like you do,how to keep your hair healthy and such… Because, now that i’ve seen you with your new (well,at least it seems it is) platinium blonde/pink hair…I’m so jealous. Your beautiful.
Thanks for commenting! That is so lovely of you to visit the site for so long, I really appreciate it :D I honestly don’t know how to explain my hair dying, I kind of just apply dye where I want it and blend it in XD Maybe I’ll just make a video and that will be easier for people to understand!
I stumbled across your website while looking for cute loli ideas, and I must say, yours has the best tutorials by far! You’re really pretty, and you always look like a princess! Good luck~
