Hair- Big Poufy Curly Up Do Tutorial
Aug 12, 2010 by Violet
As promised here is a tutorial on how to do the big poufy curly style up-do thingy that I’ve been wearing a lot lately ^_^
| Apologies for how tired I look in these photos, I really wasn’t feeling well but I wanted to get the tutorial finished for you guys >_< I’ve been quite stressed lately so I haven’t been sleeping much!
So what you need:
First thing’s first, pin your fringe to the side to keep it out of the way. Brush out your remaining hair so there are no knots. Apply heat protector spray. Very important step so you don’t damage your hair at all ^_^ Heat up your straightener or whatever you are planning to use to curl your hair. Btw I’m wearing my new blue lenses from E-Circlelens.net in these photos, the full review is coming soon but I’m excited because I haven’t used blue ones before :D So anyway! Curl the bottom 1/3rd of your hair. You don’t need to make the the curls perfectly even or very good because they are all going to get mushed up anyway. Like this is fine: Continue until you’ve done all of your hair like this… Add a little bit of hair spray: Get all of your bobby pins ready so you can easily access them. Lightly tease/back comb the front section of your hair at the roots. You don’t need to tease very much at all. Flip your head upside down! Gently brush the back section of your hair up and forward. Don’t brush the curly ends! Grab the hair loosely in one hand like you are making a pony tail. Twist it clockwise once. Using your other hand grab the ends of one side of the curls. Scrunch upwards to your head. As you bring it to your head continue to grab hair around it. Once you actually reach the base of the twisted big, grab hold of it. Turn your head up the right way again and you should have something like this… See how it’s long on one side and shorter on the side that I did the grabby thing on? Now it’s time for pins! Start by pinning around the twist. Don’t just slide pins in, slide them half way then twist and push them in the other direction, this is how you get them to stay in really well! Pin it enough to keep it in place by itself: Now tidy it up with more pins ^_^ You can create the bubbly waved effect by adding a pin every 5cm or so across the top of your head. This is basically using the curls you made earlier and forcing them into place. If you’ve curled it well, you shouldn’t have to do too much work, the curls naturally want to sit like this. The back looks like this: Now time for decoration… I added a big bow! And I used a bunch of flower pins too :D I just put them randomly all over the place, you can use them to add to the bubbliness on top too because when you add them close to the scalp you will squish the puffier bits down. It’s also a good time to touch up any of the major curls ^_^ Un-clip your fringe and give it a quick go over to ^_^ Extra hair spray! And you’re all finished :D This is a really versatile hair style, you can change it completely just by scrunching the hair up in a different position. In this next photo I had it all on one side rather than a couple of curls hanging down, it just depends on your technique. You probably won’t be able to get it to look exactly the same twice but having it slightly different every time is kind of fun XD Hope that was easy to follow and you enjoyed it, let me know if you have any questions! |

Pretty! Btw that looks like a reaaally small hair straightener… it’s not the VS Sassoon miniPro by any chance?
Hope you get some good quality sleep soon!!!

You have great eye sight! It is the VS Sassoon Mini Pro and I freaking love it! Best straightener I’ve ever used ^_^ I keep meaning it review it, do you have one too? Thanks so much, I’m hoping for a rest soon but it’s all crazy work right now >_<
Reading your hair tutorials really, really, really make me want to grow out my hair :) I love all the roses scattered through it, it really reminds me of Marie Antoinette.
Hope you manage to get some rest :)

Aww you are so lovely to say that! I do really love that period of time ^_^ I love having long hair but sometimes it can be so irritating especially in summer!
There’s no need to apologise for looking sick/tired! (Not that you look sick/tired, so don’t worry, you still look pretty. xD)
And I think your hairstyle is awesome!
You are sweet to say that Kiwi I really appreciate you being so nice, I have just been so run down the last few weeks >_<
I love your hair! It’s so fluffy and pretty =^-^= I hope you feel better. When I’m sick I make ginger chamomile tea from scratch. It helps to sleep and settles the stomach.
Ginger Tea Recipie
1 Tbs chamomile loose tea
1 tsp fresh or frozen crushed ginger
1 or 2 Tbs honey
Steep the chamomile and ginger for ten minutes in 8oz hot, but not boiling water. Add honey, stir, and enjoy.

XD Thanks Meream!
That’s so cute! And thanks for the detailed tutorial ^_^ Your hair tutorials always make me impatient waiting for my hair to grow out again XD By the way, do you mind me asking what specific lenses you were wearing? I’ve been looking for something that will give me a grey-blue effect, and not scary neon blue, and yours look like they do the trick ^_^
Oh growing your hair out can be so frustrating! Oh yes of course, these lenses are from here: http://www.e-circlelens.net/shop/step1.php?number=289
I think because my eyes are naturally green it softens them quite a bit. I will post a review with close ups soon! Thank you so much for asking<3
Ohh! Your hair looks amazing like that! I can’t wait for my hair to grow long enough to try this!!
Thanks Natalie! I hope you give this a go when your hair grows out :D
Gorgeous!!! I’m always looking for curly hairstyles, they are so hard to find

You totally should! <3
Wao! I love ur fluffy hair! and that’s why it makes easier hair styling for you :) do rest well ok? u really do look tired :/
Thanks Vicky, my hair is very unruly so it doesn’t like to stay styled for very long but now that I have better tools I am able to do more styles ^_^ Haha I don’t think I’ll be able to rest for quite a while >_<
So cute! ^_^ I’ve tried curling my hair with my straightening iron, I just can’t do it >_<
I think it's because the plastic outside around the hot plates stays cool, which I normally love but it doesn't work for this xD
It can be really hard to get the hang of curling with a straightener, it took me quite a while >_< You're right though, if the outside is staying cool then I don't know how well it would work… Maybe just buy a little straightener that gets hot? Mine was only $20.
Wonderful tutorial… thanks for writing it! I have been trying to figure out how to do my hair like this without it ending up a knotty, nasty bird’s nest.. :)
Bunny recently posted..Creepy Movie Doppelgangers
The knotty nasty bird’s nest thing is a little un-avoidable unfortunately >_< With careful brushing and minimal teasing it's not too bad though! I think you would look really sweet in this style!
Awwe, I hope you feel better soon Violet! I did notice your eyes look bigger than usual, it must be the new lenses! Great tutorial!
Thanks Kate ^_^ Yep I’m sure it’s probably the lenses and angles!
Wow why your eyes are getting bigger and bigger?? :D especially in this post, your face look so small with the super big round eyes!!! *envy* and you look slimmer in these pics!!! Are you losing some weights?? XD
Haha I think it’s just the lenses and the make up, I was trying bottom lashes for the first time here too ^_^ I definitely haven’t been losing any weight, I’m the same as I’ve been since high school XD
Oooh, my straightener’s are being returned to me tomorrow, I can’t wait to try it! I was actually thinking about working it for an LARP event I’m going to (I’m a geek, you caught me!) in which I play a pirate-y type character, so I’ve got shells and fish ornaments and even feathers I can use as well! I promise pictures if I manage it make it look good!

Oh, it’s such a fantastic look and another great tutorial!! I’m in LOVE with those lenses too – as if your peepers could be made to look any bigger!

I just did a review on the lenses too :D I would so love to see you in a look like this, skulls rather than roses obviously ;)
Your hair is so lovely and long! *__* I wish mine would grow so that I could do this awesome hair style, but unfortunately it just won’t. I have been trying to get it longer for the last 6 years and it is still only shoulder length… =_=

thx for the tutorial dear violet
i always admirer u talents and skills
No problems Princess <3 I hope you give it a try :)
Cute hair creepy looking chick
Haha thank you! Definitely not my everyday look anymore but it’s fun to experiment :D
I’m trying to grow my hair out to about your length, any tips on how to take good care of it? I’ve stopped straightening it, and using a lot of heat. It doesn’t seem to help much though.
Hmm it really depends on the type of hair you have, I haven’t heard of stopping heat styling to grow it but I guess the less damage the better! I don’t know if there’s anything you can do to speed up growth other than just give it time and don’t let split ends get too out of control ^_^
Awww so cute! Now I have to grow out my hair :)
If don’t want the ‘bags under the eyes’ look, you could buy these rollers which apparently have caffiene in them (you roll them under your eyes). But no promises it will work, I havn’t tried it yet. :)
Your contacts look awsome too, I like how your lip colour stands out as well as your blue contacts. Lovely tutorial!
I’ve tried one of those caffeine roll on things too, they’re really great when I have allergic reactions :D They don’t do much for circles though, mine are hereditary unfortunately! Thanks for commenting!
