May 23, 2010 by

While you’re all reading about Sneaker Sunday I’ll be on day 2 of our epic car trip yay!

After last week’s post I was looking at those sneakers again. I love them but I’ve always thought that something was a bit missing from them.

I thought about it for a while and I realised… everything needs more glitter :D

  1. SO CUTE!

Ugh you’re so adorable and fashionable it hurts!

I love love love glitter, will definitely try this soon.

*adds to list of projects to do on holidays*

How much glitter did you end up using?

    Diana x

    • XD Thank you Diana! Seriously I didn’t use much glitter at all, I bought a $2 packet from a junk store and used less than a quarter of it!

  2. creative and loves as always! girls love glitttttttttttery :D

  3. That’s a really nifty way to brighten them up! love it!

  4. LOVE THE GLITTER VIOLET!! IT’S SO PRETTY!!

  5. Kari

Yay glitter!!! They’re definitely much snazzier after the glitter + ribbon change! I’m tempted to try this on some of my shoes now :-P I assume the glue you used was permanent and not washable (so like, not kids’ school glue, because that stuff washes away in water)?

    • I love them being much more personal that way :D No the glue doesn’t wash away in water, if you get them wet for a long period of time then it will turn white again and need to be dried out. I don’t walk through the rain much though so it’s ok for me XD

  6. Love the glitter!!!!! :D
Black laces would probably go very well with the shoes too!!!
Ahh these shoes look so glam and glimmery. :)

Aww cute ladybug on cute shoes! Safe travels and good luck on the car adventure, I do terribly on road trips. I drove to adelaide not too long ago and there were awful “stop revive survive” billboards and it had a man with red eyes and matchsticks holding his eyelids open (it looked like something out of a horror movie because the red-ness looked like blood). I sometimes really thing that the Australian government just likes to scare us citizens into doing the right thing. I cringe everytime the anti-smoking advertisements come on tv :(

    blah blah wall of text!

    • Hey Lauren, that’s really funny you wrote that, because I texted that very phrase “stop-revive-survive” to Violet as she drove down to Sydney!

And as someone who works for the RTA monitoring accidents on camera, let me tell you, safety really is an important message…you wouldn’t believe the number of smashes that come from microsleeps (often by truckers) – with devastating results.

      • I <3 You! Your message came right as we were taking a break too, perfect timing! I had some horrible images in my mind driving so we were extra careful *_* and no matter how careful or good of a driver you are you can't account for other drivers :(

    • Thanks so much for your well wishes Lauren, it is so scary thinking about all of that! We are all safe and sound in Melbourne (thank god!) and James made sure to take lots of breaks. I’ve seen that billboard too and it’s so icky!

  8. that’s a great idea!! I have some green flats that have seen better days but decoupaging them with fabric didn’t seem a good idea, I can try this! Thankyou!!!

  9. omg this is great! I wish I read it before i started sewing into my trainers :p T_T

  10. you’re a genius! :O
    the idea is awesome *_*

  11. Szikra

It reminds me the shoes in the Wizard of Oz ^^

  12. Oh, what a cute thought. Ruby sneakers? I’ll have to make some for myself, and maybe in some different colors too! Another great idea, Violet. :D

  13. Those are so adorable!

  14. gtan

In the future, you might try spray adhesive instead ^^ It’s faster and you can probably get a more even coverage. Just tape off the parts you don’t want glittery with painter’s tape. Once finished, spray shoes with a sealant.

    • I think a spray adhesive would also be great but from my experience it doesn’t give as shiny finish. Definitely worth experimenting with though, thanks for the tip!

  15. OMG more DIY I want to try, but on heels! I fail >_<

This is so cute and the ladybug shot just brightens my day. How adorable!!

    • Yes heels would be awesome! Yay for lady bugs too, I couldn’t believe my luck finding one right when we were taking the photos!

  16. OMG, what an awesome effect!! I think I’ll have to do this for myself and my two daughters! Wow

  17. I am not going to be able to get these rad sneaks’ out of my mind!! LOVE them.

  18. Jin

I want those sneakers! Love the glitter and the lady bug (co cute) :)

  19. Christie

those sneakers are so cute :D
however when it rains, will the glitter run? or will the glue melt?

    • The glitter won’t run in the rain, if they are wet for a prolonged time the glue will turn white again (not melt) but you can just dry them out again. I don’t go out in the rain much so it doesn’t matter for me ^_^

  20. I don’t like red colour but i love glitter items!
    So cute! ♥

  21. I really want to try this! I hope it will look as good with pink glitter too! Thank you for the tutorial (>w<)

    • I think it will look great with pink glitter too! No worries, I’m glad you enjoyed it!

  22. <3 <3 <3 these!!
Might have to try a pair one day myself one day!

  23. Liz

Hey these are beautiful! I was JUST wondering today if it’s possible to put glitter on converse shoes and how it would stick and whatnot. You also take really good pictures! High five on a job well done!

  24. Anne

Such prettaye shoes! Can I just coat the shoe in glue then sprinkle glitter over?

  25. T-chan

They’re like sneaker-style “ruby slippers.” Like the from The Wizard of Oz :3 Super cool.

  26. T-chan

Does the glitter start to come off after a while? I really want to try this, but I’m afraid I’ll make a mess.

    • Nope, as long as you mix the glitter with the glue completely and do a top coat of glue it will stay put :) I’ve had mine for almost a year now with no glitter loss.

  27. Vanyaria

LOVE THIS!! Will definitely be trying it, I love sparkly shoes more than anything but I’ve got a 1 year old and I can’t wear pretty high heels anymore… never even considered sparkly sneakers. Love it!
