Violet Vision- Dolly Eye Make Up Tutorial

Apr 23, 2010 by

This dolly eye make up tutorial took foreeeeever to upload!

Vimeo is down so the reason the quality is not great is Youtube’s stupid compression rubbish. The sound levels seem to have also been warped so beware, the theme song is super loud but for the rest you might need to turn it all the way up in Youtube and on your computer to hear what I’m saying *_*

I’m working on fixing things as fast as possible but until Vimeo is back online there’s not much I can do!

Aaaaanyway aside from all of the technical junk this video was made as a request on how to do the more involved make up style that I sometimes do. This style is possibly more of the traditional hime gyaru style than my every day make up. I prefer this look with a bolder outfit and definitely with dark circle lenses because my natural eye colour is too light for it to work.

The disclaimer is that I am not an expert in make up techniques, this is just the way I do it when I wear my make up in this style.

Products used:

  • Moisturser- Skin MD
  • Lenses- Candy Violet from e-circlelens.net
  • Foundation- Innoxa
  • Mascara- Bourjois
  • Lashes- some cheap brand
  • Lash glue- Lash Me Type 1
  • Black Shadow- Bourjois
  • White Shadow- Bourjois
  • Shimmer dust- The Face Shop
  • Lip Stain- Bourjois
  • Lip Gloss- Bourjois

If you want to know the product line or numbers used for the dolly eye make up tutorial just let me know :)

  1. awww you are so adorable – and the sound quality was fine on my computer!!
I love how you do make up – totally jealous of your ability to make videos so cool, I am attempting to do my first one as we speak – :( I only have crappy windows movie maker – not fun and it won’t let me import video from my phone!! Lol. I have no luck!!

    Great post!!
    Stay wonderful!!

    xx

    • Thank you so much, I’m glad the sound started to work, I was quite worried!! I haven’t used Windows Movie Maker but I’ve heard horror stories about it *_* Maybe see if you can download some better software so you don’t go crazy XD Video editing even with the best software and knowledge can be very frustrating. Good luck with it all, I’m sure it will be awesome when you’re finished! <3

      • Thank you for this! I do pretty much the same thing myself, but it’s nice seeing the little ways you do it better than me! Man, I wish I had circle lenses – my eyes are already a little big, but those circle lenses are AMAZING!

I love your accent, you sound as cute as you look! ~ <3

AND! My very first video I made was with Windows Movie Maker, and it came out awesome! It just took a lot of tweaking :P If you would like, you can watch it here: youtube.com/watch?v=-TGy4W_sv8Y

        • Hi Princess Moonlight :) Thanks for commenting, I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Circle lenses can be very fun to play with, though make sure you talk to an optometrist first ^_^ Thanks for linking your movie, I’ve had a look and it’s nice. It’s quite an unrelated topic though so I have edited your comment to remove the “http”. Thanks for commenting and good luck with your videos in future :)

  2. You sound so cuteeee! Especially your laughter!

And… what reactions did you have with your previous eyelash glue??? I’ve eczema, and I’m pretty much afraid to put anything on my face at all. >.< I'm not wearing makeup or anything now because I'd risk having a swollen eye if I do! So I'm envious of people who can put on makeup without much problems. T_T

Finally…. Great job! I still think you sound super cute.

    • Hahaha thank you, I do tend to giggle a lot! I have quite severe allergies (as well as eczema) so I can’t use glue that contains parabens or laytex. The last time I used that kind of glue my eyes were swollen shut so badly that I couldn’t see >_< You should have problems just from the eczema but I would suggest being very careful because I developed the allergy over time, I didn't have it when I started wearing lashes. The first reaction I had was to liquid eyeliner. You can see photos of my last reaction here: http://violetlebeaux.com/2009/09/reviews-hair-and-make-up-products/
Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to email me!

  3. awww, ure soo pretty !
in my opinion your eyes are one of the most beautiful ones in whole world ._____. i have fetish to big eyes cuz my owns are sooo tiny. Wich also means that i could never try this make up, shame cuz its soo cute.
    still, great post, thank youuu~

ps. ur laugh is soo cute aww :3

    • Aww! You are so sweet to leave me such a lovely comment!! Even with small eyes, this make up looks cute I think, it can help to make your eyes appear wider ^_^ Thank you so much again!!

  4. Jeda

    Adorable!
I am so bad with fake lashes, but I really want to try this look.
Your blog is so lovely <3

    • Thank you so much! ^_^ False lashes can be really tricky, it just takes time and practice, when I first started I was terrible!

  5. That is so adorable! :D I really like it ^_^

  6. yeay for shimmer (^^)/ definately going to try it but i’m not used to fakelashes o.O” envy my indian best friend. hers are so long and lushes! saves a tonne on mascara and lashes -_-”

  7. wow! prettaye & amazing. love your eyes!

  8. Thanks for making the vid! Your voice is so pleasant. :)

I want to try this look when the lashes I want are restocked. Lashes are all I’m missing right now. ^-^

    • Thank you for watching! Good lashes are definitely very important, which ones are your favorites?

      • I don’t have any favorites yet, but I want to try some called Dolly Wink. The set I want is called Sweet Girly. ^-^

        • Oh I LOVE Dolly Wink lashes, the Sweet Girly set is totally cute too! They are so expensive over here though, because of import taxes it’s like AU$40 for 1 set T_T

  9. Sarah

    You’re my favourite! <3

  10. Esz

CUTE. I do my eyeliner from the outside in – wonder if I’m doing it wrong!
It’s cool that cos of the lenses, your eyes don’t look ‘overdone’ despite using quite a bit of black. Awesome :-D

    • :D I don’t know if there’s a right/wrong way for eyeliner, I say just do whatever works for you! I tend to do one eye in-out and the other out-in because it’s easier to draw one way haha! I totally know what you mean about the dark lenses helping the look, without them I look terrible like this! It’s a fine line hahaha!

  11. I really love this look, it’s so adorable!

I must say, you have a great way to narrate your tutorials! =D Your voice is so pleasant to listen to and you’re not too serious when talking so it was a lot of fun of watch! Please make more =D

    • Thanks so much Shmoo! Haha I definitely don’t want to take my tutorials too seriously XD I totally make more :D

  12. Kari

Hehe what a cute video! And wow, your eyes are huuuge even before makeup *o* Makes me kinda jealous XD I thought it was easy to understand even for a complete doofus like me, and I love the background music <3 I'm trying out false eyelashes for the first time soon, and I think I might try to adapt this technique for my own eyes ^.^

    • Haha I think half of my eye big-ness is from the circle lenses! I’m so glad you found it easy to follow :D Do let me know if you give this a try, I would love to see your results! False lashes take a little white to get used to, it took me like a month to get the hang of them but it’s worth it :D

  13. :O Your accent is adorable! Nice tut, I’m gonna try it later XD

  14. Jaede

    Hi Violet,
I just wanted to check in, I have been run off my feet these last few weeks and need to play catch up on your blog. I plan to do that tomorrow and I know by the quick glimpse I got of your latest tutorial I’m in for a treat !!

    • Hi Jaede! Omg you are so completely adorable to check in with me!! Please don’t rush at all, I’ve been crazy busy too with work so I’ve had to be squeezing time in to blog *_* Hope you enjoy anyway!

  15. you have a sweet laughter ^^
thanks for the tutorial, I don’t use make-up that much (total noob…) so this is pretty useful! I’m going to try this one one evening ^^
I should probably wait for sales at the makeup section :D

    • Aww thanks Riechan! Haha I started out in the super cheap make up section too when I just started out with make up, it’s much better to get a few cheap ones to practice with then move up to something more expensive :D Good luck with it!

  16. This video was super cute Violet! I like how you did the voice overlay instead of trying to talk while working. I will have to try this fast version soon, it would be perfect to use during vacation time! :D

    • Thanks so much Cindy! I much prefer to do a voice over so I can concentrate on doing my make up, I’m not talented enough to do both at the same time XD It’s definitely the perfect look for when you’re in a bit of a rush! Let me know if you try it :D

  17. I’d suggest you to try mineral makeup :) It’s natural so it shouldn’t cause any allergic reaction :)
I wish I could apply falsies :P they just don’t want to stick to my eyelid :/

    • I have used mineral make up in the past and it’s really nice, I just wish they made mineral eyelash glue! If your falsies aren’t sticking maybe you should try some different glue?

  18. Gabby

Thank you so much for this tutorial. It’s so helpful and straightforward. I love it. I never tried false eyelashes because they always looked a bit trashy to me but you make it look so elegant, I really have to try this for my next lolita outing.

    • No worries at all :) I think the false lashes can look trashy too but like with most make up, it’s all about how you style it ^_^ Good luck!

  19. winter

wow i love these tutorials -
all the stuff is too cute -mega jelous

  20. Megan

Omigosh are you using a paint brush lol??? Because if you are ironically that’s what I use too <3 it's way too expensive to buy ten dollar brushes so I just by cheap paint brushes

    • Haha no they are Eco Tools make up brushes, but paint brushes are a great idea, I use them for nail art rather than expensive ones!
