Sneaker Sunday!

Sneakers are the best thing in the world and for those of your who have been following me on Twitter, you are probably really sick of me going on and on about something called “Sneaker Sunday”…

Sneaker Sunday is an invention by the super awesome Valerie from Dweam.com and the general idea is that for one day a week we all give our feet a rest from high heels and the ridiculously painful (but super pretty) shoes we tend to wear through out the week! I am totally on board with this because for the most part hime style demands over the top decorated heels, but I think that with the right outfit totally over the top decorated sneakers can be just as good!

I have been an advocate of sneakers for the longest of times, my livejournal username was even “Chucks_bitch” in homage to high top Converse Chuck Taylors which I practically lived in for several years. I even own Baby the Stars Shine Bright’s Lolita take on the high tops!!

So what’s Sneaker Sunday?

Basically each week Val and I will post something related to Sneakers each Sunday, we will also feature photos of our Sneakers and great ways to co-ordinate them, tips and tricks etc.

Our motto is “Looking cute without crippling foot pain!”

This is my first Sneaker Sunday Co-Ordinate!

My sneakers are plain old cheap ones from Big W, they were originally completely white but I wanted something cuter so I deco’d them! The pink sections are completely opaque with shiny shiny glitter now, there are diamantes, pearls, bows and ruffles. Perfect for when I’m on the run doing lots of things but still want to look adorable ^_^

This is where you girls come in, we want to see your Sneakers!

Every Sunday we want to see your posts involving Sneakers :D If you make a post about it we will add your photos to the new  Sneaker Sunday Gallery (which also has a place on my Snapshots page) with links back to your blog. If you’ve got a Twitter account use the hashtag #sneakersunday so we can find your posts!

If you want to submit your own photos just email them to me at: VioletLeBeaux@gmail.com!

Go have a look at Valerie’s first Sneaker Sunday post and I can’t wait to see yours!!

Love Violet

It just sucks when ur clubbing halfway n cant enjoy much when ur feet n in pain cos of ur heels. i’d rather wear my sneakers n dance the night away woo hoo! :P :P

    • Violet says:

Woo for other sneaker lovers! I totally agree, I can’t enjoy anything if my feet hurt ;_; Yay for sneaker girls! Adding your pics to the gallery too <3

  • trashtastika says:

I’m actually just wearing socks today…but I’m game! I have TWO pairs of pink sneakers – platform pink & silver swears, and some I got in KL last year. Hmm….where’s my camera gone?

  • Shmoo says:

You did it again! Your creativity blows me away everytime! =D

I just your sneakers! I have this old pair at home and I was wondering what I should do with those… I think you just gave me an idea!

  • Plummy says:

Super cute! I look forward to seeing all the different looks with sneakers. One of my goals for the summer was to get a pair of cute tennis shoes to wear with skirts and dresses and I hope to get lots of inspiration from you! Your style is always super cute!

  • Tsukiko says:

Yeay, that’s a really cute and good idea. :) Maybe this week I will made photo of my sneakers too. (They are Converese, haha. xD) But not today. Today is a day I will do nothing and I will chill at home if my friends didn’t do anything too. ^^ :D Can’t wait to see the sneakers of the other girls. :)

  • I absolutely agree with wearing properly supportive shoes whenever you can however, cheap sneaker aren’t necessarily any better for your feet than skyscraper heels. You may be able to happen upon a supportive pair, but for the most part they are completing lacking in proper padding etc. to properly hold your feet.

    • Violet says:

I both agree and disagree with some of your points. I am definitely not an expert and I think that there are a lot of un-supportive sneakers out there and wearing the wrong sneakers can be horrible for your feet. That said, the sky scraper heels actually alter your posture and the curve of your spine which I think can be more dangerous in the long run than having a lack of padding (which most heels also lack). Any shoes are going to be different than how our feet were originally designed to function (bare foot) so there are always going to be degrees of change and it’s of course what’s best is different for every individual. Personally speaking, I find even the the crappiest no padding sneakers are more comfortable to walk in for several hours than teetering heels as they don’t force my feet into an unnatural shape, but that again is just my personal experience ^_^ Sneaker Sunday is really meant to promote comfort and being comfortable in your skin, we aren’t anti-high heels at all, we just like to wear what we find most comfortable for one day out of the week!

  • Tiff says:

Lol the only look I have with sneakers are my tennis gear… I have to admit i’m not a sneaker fan outside of sports. I don’t think I can pull it off! But with that said i’m not a heel fan either (the balls of my feet hurt waaay too much). I am a flat oxfords fan!

  • Natasha says:

THESE ARE SOME AWESOME SNEAKERS O:

  • Naka says:

great idea ahh i love ur blog so much :3

  • Amelie says:

I think my feet must be immune to heels by now or something – because it’s only when I’m working at weekends, wearing my sneakers, that they ever hurt! D:

Those are the most *fabulous* pair of sneakers I think I have ever seen. Oh wow. o.o

    • Violet says:

Haha thank you! I am definitely much more immune to heels than I used to be, when I first started wearing them I couldn’t stand it for more than a few hours >_<

  • Mitsu says:

OMG they’re so cute and Chanel-esque. You should add sneaker deco to your etsy. I’d so send you a pair to do :D :D

    • Violet says:

Haha that’s a good idea, though I bet the shipping costs would be crazy >_< How about we have a deco day when we finally come to Houston and I'll make you some! :D

  • Trixie says:

Perfect! I have been trying to decide what to do with my pair of plain white sneakers. I want them to be cute, but they also need to stand up to my jogging. Thank you for the inspiration.

  • Well you know that I own only one pair of trainers and they go.. to the gym. So for me I’m going to do Sneaker Sunday, but it may have to actually be “Sensible Shoe Sunday” instead as I am actually amassing a good collection of sensible shoes! Watch me as I break out the Homey Peds! LOL ^-^

  • Loli says:

I love sneakers and I love the ones you’ve decorated too :)

May I ask what you used as the ‘paint’ (ie. the pink parts) on your sneakers? Is it a special shoe paint or something? And what do you use as glue? Because I know a lot of glues and paints crack or flake.

I can’t wait to give this a try!

    • Violet says:

Thank you! The pink parts are pink glitter mixed with white PVA glue. Pva glue is perfect for this as it is slightly elastic when it dries. The other bits are stuck on with epoxy glue (though I’ve heard that E6000 works better) and then top coated with PVA glue for elasticity. Hope that helps and good luck :D

  • Sydney says:

    I’m totally inspired now! Those shoes are awesome, and I have just the pair to do my own shoe deco on! You’ve got such great craft ideas! I’m definitely going to make a sweats tulle earring hanger too! I have my own homemade earring hanger, but its really, really not cute, and your recommendation to use modeling paste is so much better than using stinky silicone! One question on that, is it as hard to clean from the piping tips as silicone, or is it easier? Trying to get that silicone out is the of me, since its waterproof! ><;;

    • Violet says:

Yay for inspiration! Oh thank you so much! And thank you for your lovely comments too! Modeling past is WAY easier to clean than silicone, just clean with warm water and do it straight away when you’re finished. If it does dry in the tip you can generally just poke it out with something sharp because it’s so solid ^_^ I can’t stand silicone, this doesn’t have the same flexibility of silicone but it’s much more durable and doesn’t attract fricking dust!

  • Sydney says:

I’m so going to have to find some modeling paste and PVA glue and get to crafting now! Silicon is so fussy… its great to know that I don’t have to mess with it forever trying to clean out my frosting tips anymore. The best thing I ever found to get it out was alternating scrubbing and soaking in warm water or acetone, such a pain ><! Thank you thank you thank you for telling us about the paste!!!!!!!! \^o^/
